This is great, thanks! I have this exact same car. I had it in for an oil change yesterday and they couldn't find a coolant leak. The coolant level had been down a couple of inches from normal in the expansion tank, and I filled it up a few weeks ago. I drove it for a while today (it's 20F outside) and the temp gauge would go up while I was stopped at a light, then go down again when I got back up to 50-60mph. This looks pretty easy. I might as well replace the thermostat and know it's working properly before chasing after anything else.

I have the exact issue with mine, temp goes up on idle and back to normal after mid revs, how did you fix yours?

@@carlosazpeitia2979 Mine is going up when idling, but never gets to normal temp (stays maybe 1 notch below that), and then the temp drops again as soon as I start moving. A stuck thermostat is most likely the problem. I haven't fixed it yet - waiting for warmer weather because I hardly drive it (49 miles so far this year). I decided that I might as well do the water pump and belts, etc while I'm in there, because it looks pretty easy. Sorry to say gents, but you might have a coolant valley plate leak, theres a plate beneath the intake that leaks coolant. Its a real bitch to get in there but otherwise straight-forwards repair (just re-seal the plate, i used "the right stuff") One note, if you're attempting it yourself, take as much time and as many things off as you need to get the direct injector rails out properly, its extremely easy to snap the injector plugs off and these direct injectors are EXPENSIVE Was having the same issue with my GS460, heat didnt work while stopped and coolant would slowly drop... went in to do the pcv and found the leak.

@@1OMEGA111 I did have the shop look for that, but they saw no signs of a leak. I still haven't done the thermostat and water pump...I've put 500 miles on the car this year, and just never got around to it.

@@carlosazpeitia2979 I finally got around to doing this today. After I replaced the thermostat and added coolant, I let it warm up in the driveway until the temp needle was at the half way point. I still had no heat at that point, so I took it out for an eight mile drive, with about five of that on the highway. The heat kicked in after the first couple of miles, and when I got home and checked the coolant, it was right at the max level. I hadn't lost any coolant since I filled it up maybe two years ago, so hopefully no valley plate issues.

Had the same issue coolent kept on disappearing kept on leaking out of the overflow thermostat wasnt opening

First does it have heat if it has heat it has coolant no heat no coolant , 2nd does the cooling fans come on with ac on or fans come when it’s overheating if the fans don’t come on then find out why they are not coming on if everything is working then I say bad thermostat
