Thanks for this. Got mine out today thanks to this video. Getting replacement tomorrow so hopefully that fixes it. I found it easiest to take the whole pedal assembly out. But i pulled the master cylinder out without stripping the pedal box. Just squeezed the white clips in on the master cylinder rod and pulled it out from the pedal. I put the pedal back in the car without the cylinder and tried to reinstall the cylinder in situ. It was painful so i'll just reassemble the whole unit then reinstall. Fingers crossed!😁

Just finished the job. What i learned was that the little rubber seal that goes in the pipe connection has to be put on the pipe first. There is a little raised rim on the pipe fitting that the seal clips on to. I first put the seal into the cylinder and it would not seal. I wasted a lot of time on this. So i took the seal out and put it on the pipe. Not an easy task because it doesn't want to clip on. But press it on and kind of walk your thumb around the end of the seal as you press and it'll clip on. Then insert the pipe and clip it in. Bleed as normal. TL;DR: seal goes on pipe first, not in master cylinder. 😁 Oh and it helps if it's not raining on you while you do all this. 🤪🥲

You can - you possibly won't want to - cut the plastic rod from the old master C, twist & remove the unit, then winkle the white clip out, remove the cut bit of rod & then install the new master cylinder, without troubling the actual pedal box. However you'd want to be on about vag master cylinder job 10 before bothering with shortcuts like this. Or maybe you like to take shortcuts.. The 2 plastic locking tabs are white on the black plastic pedal - those are a hint to "Press hard here both sides" in order to release the stupid little clip - if you're in a hurry, you might want to give it a shot. or not.

Only tools I have found that cut the old rod without taking several months are an air body-saw or a Knipex mini bolt cutter. Just FYI.

Just replaced my slave and still got no clutch pedal after bleeding. Noticed there’s a leak coming from around the master cylinder area. Would you say it’s more than likely a failed master or could it be the pipe work? Thanks

Most likely will be the Master cylinder. But just check if it's the top hat on the end of the pipe

Why was it being replaced? I ask as my pedal doesn’t come back up when pressed, you need to manually lift back up with foot or hand? Will it be this faulty part or could be something else?

Thanks for watching really appreciate it. Yes this could be the problem. But if your car has a external slave cylinder I would replace that first it's more easier and could be just that
