I’m fortunate to have a “modern” ES that sounds close enough for me to just concentrate on practicing instead of chasing more guitars. @ I bought the sle101s when they first came out. They are the “limited” set I believe with the nos wire apparently. The other major upgrade was getting rid of the Nashville Bridge and studs and converting to the Faber ABR-1 bridge and tone pros locking tailpiece. I gave the guitar more resonance, sustain and focus on the attack. Transformed it. Did this about 15 years ago. I have some sound clips on my channel but I should post some new vids

I agree they sound good and have a nice feel but brother mahogany trees don’t live thousands of years, maybe a few hundred. They harvested the crap out of them since the 1700s so even the older ones were depleted by the 1940s. It’s ok to think they’re cool, saying 100k on a guitar is a good investment is just crazy though, unless you’re turning and burning them like the big dealers. If you got that money to party, then great. Hendrix didn’t even like the older 50s Strats btw, he played new ones. This whole debate has gotten stupid but thanks for chiming in.

@@albertjabberin739 I said in the video they even new guitars will age in a good way. The mahogany was already old at the time of the build in 59 or very dry. 335’s are marine plywood, not solid wood. Gibsons with pickups installed IN the top, rather than floating ON the top are almost always plywood. Not a bad thing - structurally very stiff…I own a 61 - sounds like a damn violin….for me, magical guitars made by people who gave a shit…

Yeah, it has a solid block of good old timber in the middle and the neck does a lot, if the neck and body talk to each other in a harmonious way, the guitar just wants to play in tune and reproduce subtle nuances in touch and if the neck and body are fighting each other, the guitar plays out of tune even when the tuner shows it's perfectly good and intonation is bang on and it seems like it has a compressor on but not in a good way. That's my experience at least. Most old guitars I've tried were either great or fixable and most new ones felt like toys afterwards
