When Adam was in the process of moving a few years back, he needed a home for a couple of guitars for a few weeks and I got to live with this baby. Played it every single day. I’ve never been a Gibson guy but this one is so special and magical. Even more so in Adam’s unique hands.

This reminds me of my search for a 335 in the early eighties (Carlton, Rios, Ritenour were my heroes back then). I traveled through half of Europe, everything I played was crap, including 50s and early 60s. Funnily enough, I stumbled across a Les Paul on my search (81 Heritage Standard 80), which then carried me through my time as a studio musician (with my Strat and Tele). I'm still looking for 335s, but to this day there hasn't been one that has inspired me. Maybe not my model.

The great thing about hand built old guitars is that they are all different: some serious dogs and some absolute gems. This is the latter. While new Murphy Labs are great, they don’t have the unique age of the wood and pickups. It’s as simple as that. Buy one with good specs, play the crap out of it, then appreciate the labour of love when you’re 65. This is my method for happiness!!!!

The 65 just sounds older and wiser. Beyond a small amount. The high end is completely different. And sounds more mature and yummier. Sounds like a record as they say. The newer 335 is still a very nice Guitar and probably is at the high end of most's price range compared to a 60s 335 that is beyond. Adam is such a smooth soul. And a legend. PS. All Gibson's need Grover tuners though. to avoid looking sickly with those dead man's toenail's tuners. You can put them in the case for the collector.

Must be something special about the 64. Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues also has a 64 from what I understand, cherry red. His was my first intro to the model. Then I started learning about who session players were and their contribution to the music I listened too. That's how I found out who Larry Carlton is and the line of Sire guitars with his name on them. I now have a black Sire H7V leftie on order which is a variant brand of the 335. Not sure why I'm putting this out there for the world to read. Boredum.
