2012 BMW 335i Fuel Vent Valve (Code 315A)

In this video I will try to diagnose an issue I was having with my BMW 335i N55. The symptoms are intermittent rough idle (fixing the fuel vent valve did not fix this problem - I now think it is my battery going bad), and fuel filling cuts out automatically when refueling the car before the fuel tank is full (fixing the fuel vent valve did not fix this problem), and code 315A that showed up on my scan tool.

nice video !! I hope you have your rough idle solved... after some research on our 2014 X3 35i N55 engine with a rough idle, BMW's fix for this is : "disconnect the tank ventilation (purge valve) electrical connector and then allow the engine to idle for 15 minutes. After that time, reconnect the connector, clear the fault code, and then drive around for approximately 10 miles to ensure it's now operating correctly."

I still have a rough idle. I was going to try the spark plugs next. Did BMWs fix work for you?

Rough idle could be vanos solenoid as well. Could replace or just clean. Either way its pretty easy.

How long did this take you? I have a shop quoting me $725 just for the labor. Based off your video this seems like a fairly simple replacement. 1-2 hours at most.

Yea, it's not very hard. 1-2 hrs is about right.

To fix gas tank fill up problem. There is a vent filter in the wheel well at the passenger rear tire by the brake pad wear sensor, take out the air filter either clean it so air pass through smoothly or replace. That will fix it

I never replaced it. When I took it off it was pretty clean and free flowing so I can't imagine replacing it would do any good.

I have the same problem and replacing the battery (unrelated to this) did not fix the issue. Now I'm working on deleting the evap altogether

Hello I have same intermittent rough idle issue. And mine goes along with 101F01 fault code (Air mass implausible in the intake system). Means a kind of vaccum leak form me After maaaaany searches, I have come to conclusion that my issue is on purge valve to charcoal canister line. When I disconnect purge valve electrical connector, the 101F01 fault code doesn't come again. Now i can"t find where is this leak, or if the charcoal canister itself is at fault. I have no problem filling up the tank to full. The engine is N55 and the car is X3 F25

I would get a vacuum line plug kit and work your way from the purge valve back to the canister capping the line to narrow down where the problem is.

Hello, i had this issue for years with my N55 e92, i replaced everything fuel related but it end up being : Charcoal Filter/Vapor Canister OEM BMW PN: 16137163596 I found many on ebay from E9x M3 and e9x 3 series and Bought one from e90 M3 for like 30$ shipped and changed it and the issue went away its been 2 years now no issues.

Did you figure out the problem? I got a 315A code Tank Venting Valve stuck open. I replaced the venting valve and cleared the code. Two weeks later check engine light came on and same 315A code. Anyone experience same thing? Any solutions?

Car still stumbles a bit when idling. I think it's the vacuum line from charcoal canister to engine but haven't had time to fix it.

You mean, take the head off and clean the valves, or use seafoam or some other type of valve cleaner? No, I haven't taken the head off, trying to avoid all that work. I did take a air hose and blow out each of the evap system lines the other day and the engine has been running smoother. I need to give it a week or so to be sure that might have fixed my idle surge.

@@JRsGarage no, walnut blast the intake valve. Your valve are going to be gunk up which will cause you car to idle rough, misfire and etc.

I've checked most of the EVAP system. The canister is not clogged and the purge valve is working properly. My issue remains illusive.

Mine's a bit better than yours, I can get to about full but it stops before the last gallon or two. I have a video on the EVAP system and canister that I need to edit and upload.

I've been noticing the same issues on my 2011 335i. Have the same fueling issue and the rough intermittent idle, also a reduced power notification if my rpms go up too high. I pulled a p2421 code that said evap system vent is stuck open. So 2 questions: 1 have you found a fix 😂 2 what was the original reason for replacing this part & did it clear the code if any? Seems like a 2 year mystery needs to be solved!

@@davidsonderby3676 I was able to fix it on mine by getting a used but known working evap canister from eBay. The code and issues both went away. Idle is still a little odd sometimes but it’s consistently odd so I’m not worried about it. I highly recommend trying to get a new evap canister!

The evap purge valve that I replaced did fix my CEL code but it did not fix the intermittent rough idle or the fueling issue where the gas station handle will shut off prematurely. Like InTenNsEplayer4 stated I think it is the actual canister but I have yet to actually replace mine so my issues persist. They aren’t bad enough to force me to fix it as I barely drive the car 100 miles each week.

If you haven't solved this issue, I don't want you to go down the rabbit hole but if you have a EVAP leak I would change the dmtl pump

I removed the dmtl pump and bench tested all of the pins and it seems to work as advertised. I'm still researching the idle issue and the fuel filling issue.

​@@JRsGaragei fix my fuel fill 100% the problem is clogged tank filter, its located in the wheel well at the passenger rear, take the air filter out and wash it and make sure air goes through clearly or buy new one. My I can pump gas non stop

No, still has a rough idle at times. It's sporadic. When it happens, it'll idle fine for a few minutes and then stumble and idle rough for a few seconds and then idle fine for a couple of minutes, like cyclical.

I had mine doing the rough idle when I got it... Like 7 months ago... I had all kinds of codes... Misfiring you named it... I ended up replacing the eccentric shaft bearings new with a used low milage.. Eccentric Shaft from ebay for 65bucks. Plus 85 bucks on the bearings... And new valvetronic motor... From Amazon 75bucks.. Bmw original refurbished.. Did the adaptations on ista for the run in valvetronic.....and now it's perfect... No more rough idle.. I had like 22 fault codes... Now I only have 2 maybe 3.... the more important one is the purge valve... Wich it will lit the check engine so until figure this one out can't not go through emissions... Any way did you guys figure that one out...

I'm pretty sure my issue is a vacuum leak in the line that goes from the charcoal canister to the purge valve in the engine bay. When I plug the inlet to the purge valve the intermittent rough idle goes away.
