Doing this job now and thank you for sharing this video, I found an easier way to unplug the top plug but it requires you to remove the alternator to gain access. Luckily I had to replace both so I lucked up a bit. I’d recommend if you’re changing your alternator yourself, you should also knock out this job as well as preventative maintenance. Thanks again

Nice video. I have 2008 E90 (335XI) saying there's a problem with the EVAP pump, (my mechanic scanned my car withan INNOVA Scanner) which research suggest that the pump is on the driver's side rear next to the gas tank. Do you think an EVAP code can likely be this pump as that is something I probably can handle replacing myself. (I already have replaced the Gas Cap...code came back). Any suggestion welcome or if you have a video on this...Thanks. Phil
@picklesgarage Жыл бұрын
Yes I think that is likely the problem. On this BMW it had a couple issues, problem came back and it was a combination of the fuel pump leaking which made the system run lean and a leak at the valve cover. Essentially the whole system had issues. I didn't end up making a video on it unfortunetly it got too hot here to work on while setting up shots.

@@picklesgarage Thanks a lot for the response. Can you suggest a good place to get an OEM EVAP pump without going to the dealer? It gets confusing out there with these parts. Thanks again... Phil

@uptownphotography Honestly I get a lot of my stuff thru rockauto. I have had issues with some sensors not being OEM but that was on my jeep. Everything else I have bought thru them have been just fine. That being said, BMWpartsdirect.com is going to be the safer bet for oem, just will cost a bit more. My philosophy is if you don't ever want the possibility to have to do the repair again then spend the extra otherwise rock auto/parts geek and even then a good chunk of that is OEM at least as an option among others.

I have a p12e1 and a p0456 code on my 2014 m5 im convinced it is my purge valve because when i did research on the p12e1 code it indicates high fuel trim cylinder , can it be the purge valve?
@picklesgarage6 ай бұрын
@anttheman6370 It could be yes, this resolved quite a few people's issues with the evap system but it does depend. When the purge valve is bad it's purging higher or lower than normal which would line up with the codes you are getting. I am currently working on another video for the other sensors down stream just currently have a parts delay. I would recommend starting with the purge valve but if that's not it hopefully my next bmw video will help. Mine had more than one failure in the system. Thanks for watching.

Hey did you ever notice any rough idling with this bad? I have a rough idle sometimes and this is the only code stored
@picklesgarage Жыл бұрын
Not so much in my case but as this controls fuel vapors it can very well lead to a rough idle but I wouldn't be surprised if you need a base tune up as well though this part is a good place to start.

Do I have to disconnect the battery to do this job?
@picklesgarage11 ай бұрын
Any time you work with electronics on a car it's advisable to disconnect the battery. That being said I don't think I did when I did this one. Mostly intake removal, evap lines and a plug so I had no issues.

Currently when I pump gas it keeps shutting off. I have no check engine code. I tried blowing the vent line out. Wondering if this will fix my issue. I ca. hear air when I’m pumping gas.
@picklesgarage Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching. By shutting off do you mean your car shuts off? If so that might actually be the sending unit on the tank itself. It's plastic and does Crack and leak overtime resulting in your car running lean and getting air in the system. I'd have a inspection done on that to confirm especially if you can find something under warranty they should check it for free. These purge valves are mostly emissions related. It can have performance affects especially if the car is tuned to expect it to be operating but I would be a bit surprised if it had that big of an impact on the car for it to stall unless it was a combination of things.

@jplumb5591 any updates on this? My car also does this and I saw one guy replaced this and it fixed it
@picklesgarage Жыл бұрын
@jplumb5591 Hey sorry misunderstood and I didn't see the notification until someone else replied. I do have that same issue even after replacing this part. I think that it is possible this could help but realistically the biggest contributor would be the vent line back to the tank which you cleared so unless it's not the line itself but a connection to the tank that plugged I'm not sure. This seems to be a real common issue with tons of bmws so might be part of the design itself being flawed but let me see if I can figure mine out and I'll circle back.
