2012 BMW 535i safe windshield replacement by Alfredo's auto glass using WRD SPIDER 002S

I've been in the Auto Glass business since 1990. You are one of the extremely rare individuals who take the effort to do all the little things correctly. Vehicle protection, pinchweld cleanliness, primer, correct glue and good looking glue bead, gloves and suction cups so no contamination to pinchweld or glass grit. I've seen over a thousand other techs work and it still amazes me how many do not do the job correctly at all. Thank you for reaffirming me there are still guys out there like myself who do it correctly. One small bit of advice. When the body putty/bondo/filler gets exposed at body joints under the original glue bed I like to lay a small bead of urethane over that joint and smooth over entire joint so no water can work its way in that isn't covered by new glue bead.

smoke14 I’m confused by the point of your comment but I’ll respond anyway. First- 1990 was 30 years ago not 15 If you do the simple math. Second- Yes I called it glue. Urethane, adhesive, glue, are common words used everyday.in auto glass that I’ve heard and used over the last 3 decades and by thousands of techs in several states. While I’ve primarily done autoglass my whole career, I’ve also done for many years and still do on occasion commercial/ residential. Adhesive, glazing compound and glue are several terms used there regularly as well. Again, I called it glue in casual conversation. If I was writing a tech article or bulletin, which I have written several, I would specifically use the term urethane.

We have to do this. If we don't prime minor scratches it will rust. We have to take this very seriously because if you're in an accident your windshield supports your air bag, keeps you in the car in a roll over and keep you from getting crushed by the roof in a rollover. Your windshield plays a part in structural integrity of your car.

Alfredo I did this job for 52 years just recently retired. 20 years in the shop and 32 on the road as a mobile installer. I owned the business with my brother and loved my work. Alfredo, This is Rich with ZGLASS & ZG3 Systems. I have watched a lot of Videos in my 40 years in this crazy Auto Glass Business, but I have never seen anyone do an installation this well. I am very impressed! The thing that is most impressive is the care you take to do the job right. I thought I was a fairly good technician but after watching your video you are without question one of the best technicians I have ever watched. I met you at the Glass Show in Reno and even though I thought the competition was not a true representation of the work that is actually done in the field, I have to say in your case, the work you do appears to be the same in the field or in the competition. It is rare to see the same quality service performed on a daily basis that you would see in a competition. I am from Illinois, and after watching your video, I think I might just drive to California if I ever need my own personal windshield installed. Very impressive. I am glad you are not my competitor, you would be hard to beat! In fact I don't think you could be beat. I think the best I could hope for is a tie!!! Awesome job. Ive had a few windshields replaced before and Alfredos work ethic is apparent most guys are in a hurry trying to get slap the windshield on ive had guys try and leave dirt without wiping the grime off before placing the windshield on good to know someone has integrity in there work

I've been doing this for 25 years plus and the only step extra that I do is after the original ureathane is removed I clean the pinchweld with glass cleaner and a lint free towel and then I prime any bare metal spots. the reason I do this is to make absolute sure there is no dirt and debris before I prime. not many people in our profession take these steps to do a proper installation , Great Work ethic ! Agrss recommends clean the pichweld before trimming the old urethane back. Nothing is more clean than a freshly trimmed bead. If u wipe over the trimmed urethane, u can actually make it less clean.

Good professional job Alfredo, demonstrated some excellent skills. My only concern would be the risk of injury to your back when you are " laying on" the new glass. During my time in the business, I saw many long served fitters who ended up with back problems because of that manoeuvre.

Good job man, I own a repair shop and I would love to see this quality of work from the guys that come here. Unfortunately it's up to the customer who they want to hire and they always go with the cheapest and they get what they pay for, cut urethane, remove broken window, no prime, run bead of urethane, stick in window, add 2 pieces of yellow tape. That's what $150 gets you. This guy is a $300-$400 replacement because it has to be with all that overhead and time.

He deserves a thumbs up all the way I've been doing it for 18 years everybody does it different there are several ways to get it done some ways are better than others there is not a specific way to get it done when ordering a windshield stand there and watch the tech if he knows what he's doing he should be comfortable letting you watch remember it's your vehicle you have the right to watch if he is confident to work in front of you then obviously is the one you want working on your vehicle

What is the yellow cable in the WRD Spider? A carbon fiber woven rope? That thing is cool. I had an extra bag near the larger equipment that is not moved at a dealership. The used cars had to have new windshields installed if damaged and the same guy used that bay for years. But never had a less brutal tool than that to remove them. Just a great video of work! Great job man! Over in the UK I work for Autoglass, we prime the over the old bond and we're taught to glue the glass. The older boys hate it and glue the body instead because that's what they've been doing for years! On that particular 5 Series don't the bottom corners come in slightly before meeting the glass edge?
