It is possible, but need a custom shop that really understands enclosure design to pull it off.. I would recommend building the enclosure first, measure the airspace and then choose the best subwoofers for the airspace.

I’ve never done fiberglass but have a wood working shop in the basement and am willing to tackle making my own enclosure after watching you guys knock this out, thanks for showing us all how it’s done, and you guys are really cool funny guys! That said, how much air space do you have there or if you raised the seats and built it taller? I’m considering 2x JL 10w3’s or 10w6’s but am not sure either will work with speaker height, ideal cubic air space for each, how to tune the box, etc. FWIW - I’ve a 17’ Ram Sport Quad Cab.

Nice box I have a Question for you about the build.. when building the box and laying down the fiberglass resin how are you fixing the fiberglass to the wood trim perimeter to construct the initial volume part of the box before adding the top that will have the sub opening? I've watched multiple videos and it looks like everyone is applying the resin up the side and barely going on the top side of the perimeter. I can't see how the resin wouldn't break free once bass is added. Is the screws that stick out that gives the resin a bite to the wood or is the bond just that strong that it just stays once the top is screwed and glued? I would think you would want to add layers over the top around the sides but that would cause fitment issues right. Please explain this step for me if you don't mind.. thank you
@SoundsGoodStereo
@SoundsGoodStereo 2 жыл бұрын
The MDF wood is very porous, so the resin absorbs into the wood and creates a bond. Kinda like wood glue at the joints, the glue once dry is stronger than the screws/staples.

@@SoundsGoodStereo I guess what I should have said is. How did you calculate the dimensions of the box to build to reach the adequate airspace? For example say you have two 12s to fit in this box that require 1.02 cubic foot of airspace each, how would you know how big to build the box with this odd of a shape? The subwoofer box that is in the Ram 3500
@SoundsGoodStereo
@SoundsGoodStereo Жыл бұрын
Not really a easy way to do it. We always build the enclosure first, then measure the airspace and then find the best subwoofers to fit that airspace. We never go into a project like this assuming the subwoofer size first, unless we have already measured in a previous vehicle. Your best option is to build it as big as possible and then shrink it down if you need to. Another option is to use sand and fill it up, then measure.
