Have a 2012 GC Laredo with the V6, and 125K miles--wish I would have gone with the V8; engine went out after the first year of ownership and almost $13K+ later (drive shaft went out, battery went out, rear shocks went out, etc.) Found out after the fact about the bad V6 engines from Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep. Love the looks of the car, and seems to perform well with the rebuilt engine. Going for a Hemi next time!

We have the 2007 Overland with the V6 Diesel and that thing buggers off for the weight and size so I can imagine the 5.7 being amazing.

I've heard from other KZbin videos that the 5.7 L Hemi tends to last over 250 Kmiles, and more. 122,000 might be just breakit it in.

They can last a long time. Many have. Many have not. Maintenance is paramount. There are some mechanical upgrades that can be done to enhance durability. The radiator, water pump, MDS components, and air suspension parts can be upgraded to be very stout.

Picked up a 2012 Overland last year with the 5.7 Hemi. Put several thousand miles on it and it gets pretty good mileage 20+ highway and about 12 city (my 3.6 Laredo only gets 14 city and about the same highway). Unfortunately, it seems to have developed that infamous "Hemi Tap" in the engine which has been attributed to lifter issues. There's a $3,300 job that I'm not looking forward to...

Does the tick continue ticket the whole time or only when your truck is cold.. and slowly goes away after the truck warms up? If it only does it when the truck just starts and slowly goes away.. it has to do with a manifold gasket or whole manifold.. if it's your manifold you can listen to see which side needs to be fixed.. I had the same issue on my dodge durango rt.. it was a manifold

@@DocHicksTv Unfortunately, I took the Jeep to my mechanic (I've been using him for 30+ years so I trust him) an he confirmed that it is not an exhaust tick. It's the lifters. He said that due to the man hours necessary to do the job, it will be around $3,300. He did a flush using some solvent to hopefully unstick the valve, but it still ticks. He said he can get to my Jeep in February,,,,so I guess, it's going back to the mechanic!

@@ekummel damn sorry to hear that, yeah man. (do you ever get Second opinions?) when I had the problem on my DD, it was a exhaust tick. Hopefully you get it straight! I'm in the market it get a jeep do I've been looking through videos trying to see what trim to get. What trim you have?

@@DocHicksTv I have the Overland Summit. I love it. It's the most refined Jeep I've owned...and I have had/have 5 other Cherokees/Grand Cherokees. This Overland Summit has everything. The special 20 inch wheels, the auto adjust headlights. Automatic wipers and headlights. Quadra-drive and Quadra lift. Courtesy lights everywhere inside the vehicle. I've since replaced all the inside lights with LEDs. Adaptive Cruise Control and emergency braking. Panoramic sun roof. And when you put the vehicle into reverse, not only does the rear camera show you what's behind you, but the two side mirrors automatically tilt down to show you what's beside the vehicle! It's hot heated *AND* cooled seats. Heated steering wheel and dual zone HVAC. The entertainment system is the 730N which was the top of the line back then..although, the company that makes maps for this model stops updates this year....so after 2023, there will be no more map updates for any 2012 Jeep entertainment/nav system. In all, I love this jeep and it's only got 114k. So, it's worth keeping around. My 2005 Grand Cherokee Laredo is my other daily driver and I have a 1989 Wagoneer LTD that's my trail rig. Lifted, 36" tires, full rock protection. It's fully capable.

@@ekummel My Gen 5 Chevy Camaro with a rival engine a 6.2LS3 had lifter failure. Marvel Mystery oil in the red bottle quieted it down a bit until I had it repaired.

Can you change from auto to sport while driving or first stand still?

i own a 2013, yes you can change to sport while in drive, mine has the air suspension which automatically lowers the car when going above 65, and it lowers itself when you put it in sport mode too for a more aerodynamic ride, the one in the video doesnt have the air suspension since its the limited trim but the overland trim has air suspension

I love my 2011, but it's a money pit! I've only put 30,000 miles on it and spent thousands on repairs just to keep it on the road. Every time I turn around I'm having to spend hundreds of dollars on it and parts are very expensive for these vehicles

I had one for like 40k miles till some 16 year old ran a red light and made me say good bye, which is why I looked up this video. My engine misfired when it was tryna go from cylinder deactivated mode to full 380hp on highway and I had to rebuild the whole engine for like 5k and also thousands more on alternators and starters and even a near fire in the engine bay from a computer melting wires from overheating, and the air suspension went at 85k miles and that was right before it got totaled, and I didn't fix it yet so I wasn't as mad as I could have been. insurance did do me well with the inflated car market having owned it since about 2019

I have a 1989 Wagoneer LTD (4.0L straight 6) a 2005 Laredo (3.6L V6) a 2012 Overland (5.7L Hemi) and I've owned a 1990 Cherokee Sport and a 1999 Grand Cherokee (both with the 4L). These were the cheapest cars I've ever owned. And they drove! The only time I was ever left in a lurch was when my 2005 lost the water pump on the highway. Pulled into an autoparts parking lot, purchased some tools, a new (reman) water pump and some radiator fluid and in less than 90 minutes was back on the road again. That was the easiest water pump I've ever had to replace! The toughest part was I lost one of the bolts and it took 20+ minutes to find! Finished my 5 hour drive to the beach and a weeks worth of driving with no issues. All my Jeeps have been or are lifted except for the Overland...but that's got the Quadra Lift so that doesn't need a lift,

A modded supercharged 5.7 can give any car a run the 5.7 the best HEMI as car as customizable parts

@@Vol3Original i understand what u sayn but u cant assume all 5.7s stock its alot of rebuilds but i aint say it a beat em but it will give a mf a nice run i mean ina long run the hawk gonna win for fact i aint dis agree wit u on that but he did make it seem to easy for a 5.7 to stay with a hawk u gonna need 8k-25k in mods

Your comment shows that you know less than nothing about Hemis 5.7 toughest lower end they built, can handle around 750HP STOCK! So if you throw a Hellcat supercharger on and tune right, you would give Trackhawks a run. Stick to kids video games and leave engines to the grownups

The 5.7 is not recommended for boost… much weaker than anything out there.
