Joshua, this video saved my butt. Watched and rewatched a couple times then went out and pulled the actuator off. It was stuck. Cycled the door a few times by hand to make sure it was free then put the actuator back on. Now I have hot and cold back. Thanks!
@tonyboschi79606 жыл бұрын
You did the perfect test as far as I am concerned. You took the actuator off and you were able to move the "flapper door" which showed nothing was stuck OR, when you took the actuator off, you were able to "un-stick the flapper door". Then you put the actuator back on and saw that when you turned the dial, the gears moved again and all is well. I have done it one step earlier I have to admit, I have the actuator NOT mounted, but I plugged it i,started the vehicle and turned the heat dial and watched for the actuator to move. You just have to make sure that when you remove the actuator and when you reinstall the actuator, the temperature was at the same setting both times. They usually come from the factory in the "cold" setting, which is the "fail safe" for the unit. You can check the flapper door is in the cold position by starting the vehicle, get it up to temp and when the blower is running, turn the flapper so only cold air flows out. By the way, this video is one of the BEST because you don't talk and talk and talk and give us all KINDS of information that is not relevant to anything concerning why we are watching the video!

Hopefully this is the cause of my problem. Thanks for posting.

You are correct sir! Not a official mechanic or a car guy but when I have car issues I like to diagnose and fix them myself if I can. I don't like being charged for irrelevant things or being over charged for a $30 fix I know I can do myself. For this problem i couldn't find any one source to help me, so I pieced together everything in hopes it would help others. Hello, nice video. The 2008-2012 Liberties are all the same with these. They all have three (3) actuators. 2 on the driver side and 1 on the passenger side. 1. Driver lower side - Blend door actuator (heat/cool). 2. Driver upper side - Mode actuator (vent, heat, defrost, etc). 3. Passenger (left of glove box, easiest way is to remove glove box: open glove box, slide to right, pull out) - Recirculate actuator (fresh air/recirculate). Hope this info helps someone also!

This was a huge $ saver. Was a little chilly this past week at night and the windows were fogging up. Tried to put on a little heat and it was nothing but cold air. I looked and saw the Actuator wasn't moving so i got one off Amazon. Was about $13 cheaper than my local parts store. Since i wasn't in any rush i decided to get it online and wait the 2 days for shipping. It took about 10-15 minutes to replace and I now have great heat again. The only thing i had to do was plug it in and move the knob until it lined up with the old one. I was then able to put it back into place and screw it in. Such an easy job too.

I can't thank you enough for taking the time out to make this video after diagnosing the problem with your own 2012 Liberty. I swapped the "Heat/Cold Door" actuator this morning in my sisters Jeep. Getting the new actuator on was more than a bit fiddly trying to line up both the gear and pins but once it lined up it worked like a champ. I was concerned with reading online about having to visit the dealer for a "calibration" but ours didn't need anything like that. (Got lucky?) That maybe something you have to do with the first gen Liberty's? If your Liberty's heater isn't working and you hear a loud clicking noise coming from under the dash occasionally it's your actuator failing. I paid about $38 for a new actuator at Autozone.

@birdwing984 жыл бұрын
You can find out if the thermostat is stuck open by checking the temperature of the TWO BIG HOSES that go from engine to radiator. After car has had time to warm up, one hose should be HOT , and the other cold. You can temporarily remove fuses to stop the radiator fans from running, and see if the temperature gauge rises to normal temps. Also could cover nose of car with sheet of plastic, or cardboard to block cold air.

I just did this fix and had to exercise the door back forth manually. Grab the gear behind your dash and twist back and forth with your fingers. Your heat should switch back and forth from hot to cold. If it doesn't your door may have broken off or came off inside. If your actuator is bad just manually twist the gear to the heat til you can get a new one.

Also. Two more things. I saw you had the part to get to the actuator already off. How do you take it off? Then. When you unplug the negative battery cable for two minutes, do you need to leave it off while you fix the problem with the actuator or can you hook it back up after the two minutes and then work on the actuator?
@joshuakipp46656 жыл бұрын
Disconnecting the negative battery terminal is a safety precaution, I try to error on the side of safety. It disables the air bags so they don't accidentally go off while you are doing maintenance. I would leave it disconnected until finnished working on the installation. Then make the battery connection to do any calibrations (if needed).

@joshuakipp4665 Жыл бұрын
Check the blend door/flap. You should be able to move it manually to adjust the temperature blend. You might be able to see it move from the side. Sometimes it gets stuck. If it's stuck and the actuator is moving still, the teeth on the gears inside actuator can start breaking after a while.
@4589scott7 жыл бұрын
So you should be able to diagnose this by looking at the gears and see if they're turning, before you pull it apart, correct?
@joshuakipp46657 жыл бұрын
Scott Scott rule of thumb yes. the peice the actuators move are the blend doors. If the actuators aren't moving the gears, the blend doors the air flow or temp mix will be stuck. There are cases where the blend doors have broken and detached from the actuator. At that point it becomes a hassle because you need to get inside there to reatach/replace/fix the blend doors.
@4589scott7 жыл бұрын

Great vid bro! My issue is the other actuator that choose which vent to blow out of...Source Selector(?) Anyway thanks to this vid I know exactly where to start (and save time and money) BTW, you appear to have the exact same stock stereo as I do. If it starts getting sketchy on you, coming on and off; then please check out my vid on how to fix: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoTddn6Bg95joMU&feature=em-comments Thanks again!
