2012 Jeep Patriot Throttle Body Replacement

Today we have to replace Orry's throttle body in his Patriot. We also find out he's never gotten a magnet from Rock Auto.

Replaced mine just now. Best video, guys. I watched others that were bloated. 2010 with ETC light. Researched and saw the throttle bodies go bad. It was about 80 bucks so I didn’t worry about troubleshooting - just replaced. Removed the following: battery cables, wedge holding the battery down ( ended up removing the battery tray for more room - worth it), top hose clamp, top sensor, bottom hose clamp, plastic screw tethering the wiring harness, bottom sensor...pulled the hose, removed 4 bolts and unit wiggles out. Bracket was loose afterwards and I only had to pull toward driver side and slight out toward the front. Then removed the orange gasket. Reversed order with new parts. The damn sensor releases are the hardest part to me. Runs like a top now. Thanks!

Jay Stribling Jay Stribling hey ! I have the same problem with my 2010. I was gonna do the job but I can’t figure out how how to remove the hose. Unlike most of the people who thought this job was easy because they’re cvt filler tube was broken , mine is still attached and preventing me from detaching the hose because it’s directly in the way. Any advise would be appreciated .

Good video guys. That same piece broke off in mine as well. I just cleaned my throttle body and now its running fine but I did order a new one. Both these problems seem very common and should be recalls.

Had the same issue with my Jeep Patriot CTV fluid fill tube. My fill tube snapped where welded mount was. Thanks for the video as it shows exactly what I needed to do in order to replace my throttle body. Just as an FYI to anyone else most likely you will not need to have to complete an idle relearn. At least this was my case using a throttle body by Doorman - found at O’Reilly’s auto parts.

Hey guys, great video. I was worried that you wouldn't figure out that the cvt dip stick is actually an important part. It seems to be the only way to add transmission fluid. Thanks for the video. I will be replacing my throttle body on my 2007 Patriot soon.

That dip stick is a pain to replace. This should be a recall. The CVT dipstick breaks in the same place on the Patriot and the Compass. Every Jeep shop I've been to knows about it. Search online. You'll read story after story about it. Plug it with a rubber cork until you can replace it. If debris or water gets in there, it's all over. Just the moisture in the air is enough to cause damage. File a complaint with NHTSA and call Jeep. Demand this be a recall. It's defective and they know it. So is the throttle body for that matter, but it's a lot harder to prove that. Harder to argue with a broken metal stick. So stupid.

When I accelerated to get on the highway it hesitated then bogged down to the point of almost stalling. That's when my electronic throttle control light came on.

That cv dip stick attach down on the transmission to add fluid n its 1 screw that holds in on but it broke from the rust happens to post dodge chrysler jeep wit 2.4

The CVT tubes break off all the time. I bought a couple of the tubes for back up when they brake off.

Usually a bad throttle body (throttle body sensor) will cause a check engine light, abs light or the little lightning bolt or all three. If let go too long the Jeep will go into "Limp Mode" and be limited to like 20 mph

Make sure to check your oem part numbers before ordering from rock auto. Mopar has a site to check for those for Jeep and Chrysler.

My cvt tube broke off the first week. Dealer had to replace it. Still janky and poorly designed. I think something was sitting above it when closing the hood and caused it to break off when the hood closed. Also now replacing my throttle body because it's in limp mode. Seems to have lots of similar issues.

You need to replace the filler tube on that CVT, pronto! You don't want dirt and water in there, causing damage. CVT repair and replacement costs are very, very expensive!

Hi Thanks for the video! My 2012 patriot is coding for dirty throttle body and NAPA said just to clean it. I didn't know about faulty sensor - will cleaning help that? Also, if it's just the sensor and part functions normally, why replace? In case it's not functioning properly in the future? I am going to research. Thanks for any additional insight.

I’ve been researching the same thing. Why buy new part if u can clean old one? It looks like there are some built in sensors that can be destroyed by the throttle body cleaner. And the aftermarket parts are so cheap it might be worth your time to just replace

These throttle bodies are not rebuildable. They have to be replaced when they fail to open properly. Often times, it's the plastic drive gears inside the control unit that wear out or strip out, making the throttle erratic and eventually fail completely. Aftermarket throttle bodies can be found at reasonable cost.

My Jeep patriots electronic throttle control light has come on and when you hit the gas it will sputter and won’t accelerate, I heard this was a possible solution to it. Gonna try it out tmrw.

The Throttle body Unit part is expensive. not hard to change. but a expensive part. My 2007 Jeep patriot ,Light came on today. the throttle body unit light. was going to start by cleaning it. but its cold where i live.will leave it for summer next year.
