2012 Nissan Murano SL AWD First Drive & Review

We have a 2011 LE. When my wife picked it out (her car) I was unimpressed. Then I drove it during a Chicago snow storm. We got around 2'. I went to go pickup some food and took the Murano instead of my FJ Cruiser (I didn't want to lose my parking spot). The Murano was a beast in the unplowed main streets and non-driven side streets. Now it our cross country car for family vacations. We get great gas mileage on highway. Enough room for two adults, 7 year old, small dog, large dog, and luggage.

We have a 2009 Murano. It's got over 60K on it and have virtually perfect. We replaced front bearings around 40K. We are trading this fall after 3 years. It's been a good SUV for us.

The Murano is a great car Great engine Loads of class Loads of boot and cabin room. I'm finding it hard to let go of it. It's been a no problem car. A really great car.

I watch car reviews alot and am currently in the market. He mentioned that an average of 20 m/gal is no good and there is room for improvement. It has a 260 HP engine! That's why! Also he is driving off road alot in the video. I have been reading alot of reviews on used Honda crv's I keep hearing the complaint that it needs more power. Yes, but it get 26 m/gal. Next thing they put a v6 in the crv and then people are complaining about the gas mileage. You can't win with some consumers.

It's a Nissan that comes right out of Japan, can't get anymore reliable than that. I know the earlier models had issues with the CVTs, but any American made vehicle transmission is realistically good for 80-100k miles. If it has very little miles on it a smell after high acceleration is noticeable I was told that is normal it's the catalytic converter. And head gaskets also go in American cars very fast, you don't hear a bad head gasket on a Japanese motor even at 300k miles. Good luck!

I have this car too, 2012 Murano SL AWD. but i don't have the problem you have. my only issue with it is that my windshield rattles and I can't get my dealer to do anything about it :/

That was a harsh verdict. It's still a very good CUV and it will probably last longer than the other three CUV's that he listed. Also, he spoke about the Murano's acceleration but said nothing about how the ride feels. I bet that this Murano's would give you a better ride than the Ford Edge with Ecoboost.

very poor review...he says Ford Edge has better mileage and is cheaper..what?? the mileage is better, but on 2.0L version..how can you compare mileage on vehicle which has 3.6 V6 to 2.0L ecoboost??? just for the record, comparable Ford Edge would be the 3.7L which is almost 10k more expensive according to kbb....

I leased this car, on hot days it has a bad odor of antifreeze coming up from underneath the car, very noticeable at a drive thru and on the inside it smells like it is burning oil or fluid, not all the time mostly when going up hill. I took it to the dealer and they said they could not duplicate the problem. I have heard say the problem is with the CVT and the head gasket but I don't know what it is. Great car to drive but I don't feel confident in its reliability. Sending it back.

I guarantee the Venza or Murano will last a lot longer than the junk Ford. Fords ecoboost engines are already posing problems and the MPG doesn't add up. Plus you have to live with poor fit and finish. I would take the Murano or even the Venza anyday.

grand cherokee is a great car, i would drive it before most SUVs. but the summit model is very expensive. when i say expensive, i mean it's in the BMW X5 price territory. the murano is a great car, and you can get it for very cheap. a fully loaded model with an MSRP of 42k can be had for 35k with features comparable vehicles wont have at that price.

The stereo is ok but could be better like a German car stereo is way better. Nissan should upgrade the base car radio to better tone. It's not rubbish tone just needs to be way better.

@Paul Smith Real original! On a serious note, the murano is shit. They have had to increase the warranty on a lot of Nissan's vehicles due to the CVT issues. CVT'S aren't completely shit....just Nissans. This is coming from a person who recently got rid of a Murano and doesn't own a Ford edge. Lol
