Always a spectacular result. I have become aware that graphene coatings have become the new “thing” in automobile coatings. The chemical bond they produce lasts longer than ceramic with increased gloss and durability. Ease of application is also a plus with these finishes. Will be watching the long term to see where the industry goes. And once again, spectacular result.

Good job on the new font and 'subtitles', I think they are extra sleek. Cool to see that you learn from other youtubers, and also credit them, truly gentlemen-like Rick! By the way, is it possible that in the future, you do a video solely based on the interior or the engine bay of a car? I certainly would love to see videos specific and in-depth about one topic every now and then. Cheers!
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jaap. I"m always trying to learn and push my practice forward. As for the engine bay, that's one part of the process I have shied away from in recent years. I might tackle that on my own car, but I am too gun shy to do that on someone else's car because I would feel terrible if I was to do it improperly and enter water into sensitive areas of an engine compartment. I can certainly appreciate your idea though. Concentrating on a certain aspect is a great way to add some variety to my channel. Thanks for mentioning that.

Thank you very much for sharing this, Rick. I’ve found myself gravitating to watching your videos because, in addition to the cinematics, I can relate. I’m a huge Audi fan, I also have a son, and on 4th of July weekend, I spent 8 hours detailing my car’s exterior. My wife supports my detailing, but even she asked why it took 8 hours (I washed, clayed and polished before coating). I can totally see how you’ve invested 15 hours for the interior and exterior detail. I’m not a pro detailer, and I don’t have as nice of a garage as yours, but I find detailing to be relaxing and a way to be one with my thoughts. I look forward to when you apply this graphene coating to your SQ5 and share your thoughts, because I’ve been looking for a more durable coating (I’ve applied a ceramic spray coating that’s expected to last 6 mos) for our cars. More power to you and your channel. Take care! 😃

Rick, what wheel brushes do you use? What do you use to clean them after you are done?
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
I've picked up a wide variety of brushes over the years. The one I find myself using every time is the "toilet bowl brush". It is the Daytona Speedmaster PRO and it has been discontinued. EZ Detail brush is similar but it is blue. I also have a smaller version of that brush as well as a stiff bristle carpet brush I have relegated it to tire duty. I have a wool 4-finger mitt from Griot's I use for the face and a typical detail brush I use for the lugs. None of these brushes are anything super special, but they work well and I always get good results. I just simply rinse the brushes with water after I'm done and let them hang to dry.

Phenomenal work as always. Looking to apply the graphene matrix coating on my f150. Would you recommend this over most other coatings or is there another in which you’d prefer? And can it be applied on all surfaces like the adams variant? Thanks!
@RADGarage3 жыл бұрын
Tim at Ethos said this graphene coating was suitable for all surfaces, but I only used it on the paint and the PPF. I don't like coated glass. I think this one, Adam's, the Auto Shield Canada coating I'm going to use here shortly, are all solid options. I'm actually curious to see if I notice any difference with a graphene coating over a conventional ceramic coating. Good luck on your project. That's a lot of real estate on an F-150! 💪

Beautiful car. Thanks for sharing. Thoughts on the graphene as compared to traditional ceramics?
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
I am going to hold off on making the graphene/ceramic comparison until I apply it to my own car and monitor how it performs. Applying it was very similar to applying other coatings, so I can't really give you any big observations at this point. I was very happy with the level of gloss it gave this black Audi though. I am really looking forward to seeing it on my Daytona Grey Pearl SQ5. I've had many different coatings on my SQ5 so I'll be able to share more once that happens later in the Fall.

I was a bit nervous working with a new coating on a car that wasn't mine, but once I had a few panels under my belt I started to feel more comfortable. In this case, no clay bar was used. Did you determine the paint was clean enough to just skip to the cut/polish phase? or in what scenarios can you skip claying before polish?
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
I just feel the paint. If I don't feel contaminants, I move to correction. I know this car well and I know it is garaged at home and work. It is driven daily but not on major roads where it would see heavy commercial traffic. Mechanical and chemical decontamination would have been a waste of time in this case. Good question though.

I noticed you use a regular spray nozzle to rinse the car after the contact wash instead of the pressure washer. Is this just for the cinematography or is there more to it?
@RADGarage2 жыл бұрын
There’s not a lot to it. The way I see it, the only purpose of a rinse at that point in the process is to get the soap that is carrying the particulates off the car as quickly and efficiently as possible. The surface of the car is now clean so my focus is to rinse the soap off in seconds with a regular hose nozzle. The high pressure rinse with the foam is what loosens and dislodges the dirt from the paint and in the tight panel gaps.

It's just a matter of how time I have. I'd love to perform wheels off details, but timing is the issue. If I have the car on the QJ's and it starts to storm, I can't just bring my SQ5 in the garage. So, I have to consider things like that. Plus, it just adds a lot of extra time to the process removing and mounting wheels. I have yet to perform a wheels off detail on a car other than my own or a very close friend.

How’s the new pressure washer behaving? What is the exact ratio you use with the mega foam, it’s mega right? And you are getting what PSI out at the gun? Thx
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
I am still using my old one. Saving up cash for a trench drain/catch basin. I use a strong ratio of foam to water and always end up with luxurious foam. Mega is my favorite by far. I have no idea what pressure I am getting at the gun. I'd be totally guessing.

Out of all the detailing channels I watch this is one of my favorites.. btw what tar and insect remover do you use.. I haven't really researched any.. I tried rain x stuff and it makes me weary how it sticks to the paint and takes alot to rinse
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. I use Gyeon Q2M Tar for the most part. I have a less aggressive water-based remover by Poorboy's World for more sensitive surfaces such as soft trims and PPF. carzilla.ca/products/gyeon-q2m-tar-500ml?ref=RADGARAGE

Which towel do you like to use with the Defy? Thx Rick
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
It is a CarPro towel I have had around for a long time but never used. I think it is a glass towel to be honest. I find I don't have any short-pile low gsm towels appropriate for coating removals so I am going to hit up Carzilla to get some Detail POPO Ocean Wave Weave 320gsm towels that should do the trick. You definitely don't want a plush towel when removing excess coating.

@@RADGarage did you find the graphene trickier to apply?
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
It wasn't so much trickier, but I had seen a video prior by Brian at Apex about how hard this stuff bonds and at one point in the project I lost track of a little portion I coated. When I realized I hadn't buffed the excess off I freaked out! Luckily, it polished off real easy but I had thought I had made a fatal mistake! I think I need to get more experience under my belt with graphene and I'll be able to relax a bit. I did find it a bit tricky to know exactly when it was time to wipe away the excess. The instructions say to wait until you see a cloudy/foggy appearance but that wasn't always apparent. The spread was awesome though. On a black car it was super easy to see where I had applied the coating because it really goes on evenly and was easy to see.

@@RADGarage thanks for your insight. I watched Brian's video as well. I think I'm going to test this on my car. Thanks again !!!

@@RADGarage Thinking of going myself in car detailing because i enjoy working on and with cars so mutch IT IS really relaxing. Only thing here in Germany is by law you cant wash car on your yard garage pr on the Street if you dont have suitable solution for the water waste Drainage. Bit anyway keep up with good work
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
I was just doing a Zoom chat with a detailer from Norway and he mentioned how you guys in Germany have such tight regulations about washing cars. Our laws are becoming more strict but nothing like Europe. In one way it is good, but in another way it is not.

Amazing job Rick! Also, the look on you face when you saw the cloud of polishing dust 😂 Couple of questions for you, does the insect removal product you use really rinses bug guts away, or does it take some form of agitation? How do you clean/wash your tire dressing applicators? Just rinse them with water?
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
That particular insect spray is epic. I have never had to use any form of agitation to remove insects when using that spray. Now, there have been times where I have had to polish out insect etchings in paint and PPF, but any bug guts are toast when I use that spray.

Great video Rick. Is the ethos graphene long lasting graphene coating ? I think it’s for 5 years protection right ?
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
So, it is marketed as providing between 5 and 7 years of protection. That's a bold claim, but if you live in a hospitable climate and your car is regularly washed, anything is possible. Cars here take a beating and often go weeks between washes. That means they carry salty dirty muck on the paint for many months of the year, so to get a year of protection is all I realistically expect. That said, Brian at Apex (I'm a big fan) recently stated that he needed to use 3000 grit sandpaper to remove it from a test panel. I guess the true test will be when I apply it to my own vehicle and take it though a Calgary winter. I'll be sure to report back in the future!

It's crazy how time adds up. An hour here, a half-hour there, next thing you know the weekend is gone! I did the interior on the Friday night from about 7 until 11, worked 8 until 8 Saturday and about 9 until 5 on Sunday. Some of that is filming, but then there's the clean up and washing of towels/pads that seems to be never-ending!
@joevanseeters28734 жыл бұрын
They drive an awful lot of Audi's up in Canada! That seem's to be your car of choice when detailing. LOL. Nice job, that's one beautiful vehicle. One of my dream sedans for sure. I'm intrigued by this Graphene stuff. Been seeing an awful lot lately on KZbin about it. Might have to give it a shot. The ETHOS one has been getting a lot of good reviews. How was the install compared to other Ceramic type coatings?
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
It's what you can expect. I did have some challenges knowing exactly when it had bonded. I saw the rainbow effect but on the black paint I couldn't see it "cloud up" which is an indication it is time to wipe the excess away. Like anything, it just takes time and experience to become comfortable with it. The true test will be how it holds up, but unfortunately, I won't be seeing that car for a while. I am going to slap a coat of it on the SQ5 in a month or so. That will be a great comparison since I have used all kinds of coatings over the years and know what looks good and what doesn't. So, stay tuned.

Hi Rick Was wondering the link to the wash mitt your currently using and also after you foam treat your cars what do you have in the spray bottle when your going around the car with your detail brush? Thanks -Dedicated watcher of your videos-
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
Here's the link to the mitt. It is awesome. ➤CarPro Merino Wool Mitt carzilla.ca/products/carpro-m... I use a diluted amount of Adam's Mega Foam in the spray bottle when getting around the badges and into the deeper nooks and crannies. Why is there a strike though "dedicated watcher of your videos"? It's giving me an inferiority complex. LOL
