I bought a 2013 accent, my friend bought a 2012 Chevy sonic, I can tell that I have not had an issue out of my accent, and his car, the sonic, which has had its oil changed every 3,000 miles has just turned 36, 000 miles and has a severe rod nock, and since it is barely over 1,000 miles out of its warrantee Chevy wont cover it, messed up I think so.
@Trevrz19 жыл бұрын
Alex Adkins I have a '13 Sonic. No issues... save for a rod knock ironically. They covered it under warranty. It was a poorly designed wishbone suspension. They replaced it with a slightly modified part. Been a great car. I almost got a Rio. They're both better than the Japanese competition to be honest. and they look better.

I laugh every time that guy says thonic! also, im buying my sonic because its cheap, good on gas, and its extremely fun to drive. for one, you have the ltz which has features that the accent cant compete with at any price. if you want to compare cars, look at the lt sonic and try switching both cars to having a manual transmission. completely biased test towards the hyundai. oh, and the lt 1.4 sonic with a sunroof can be had for 17,000 otd.

92ext The Sonic is looking to be a great used car to pick up. It is three years later and you can get the 2016 LTZ hatch for about $10,000 with around 25000 miles. A car with so many features that looks fun to drive is a deal!

The Sonic may have been designed in Korea, but it is manufactured in the USA. That is enough to swing my vote in it's favor. Keep the money at home. Employ Americans.
@centralfloridaenthusiast725410 жыл бұрын
you mean the accent???...
@partriarch10 жыл бұрын
Doesn't matter to me. The "Accent", or whatever other Korean designer name it might have come from (KIA instead of Hyundai?), is not manufactured here in America, while the Sonic is. I once owned an old Hyundai "Excel" hatchback for 15 years, and was quite satisfied with the reliability, performance, and thrift of the car. It unexpectedly got crunched by another car involved in an accident with a third car, and was not salvageable so it went away. My Sonic works well, and Chevy is the maker. They also stand behind their product. That suits me just fine.
@TheBluehornz0110 жыл бұрын
partriarch Chevy stands behind their product? That's why they have WAY less of a warranty than Hyundai? Interesting theory there...
@partriarch10 жыл бұрын
TheBluehornz01 Both car makers stand behind their products. In addition, the Chevy Sonic is made in my home state, and near my general location (within 50 miles). That means JOBS here in America for neighbors and friends of mine. That entered into my considerations when I made the purchase. Thanks for your comment.
@TheBluehornz0110 жыл бұрын
I can appreciate supporting your hometown. GM failed and had to pull out of our town due to the economic downturn and making products that were not as good as the competition. I lived near a plant that formerly produced S-series trucks & Blazers...and TrailBlazers/Envoys at the time of it's demise. I certainly hope for your sake that GM keeps the quality up as losing this plant had a huge negative impact here. My family was a GM family, but the quality of the past 15yrs has been SO bad that we have all gotten rid of our GMs except for my wife's '03 Saturn Ion which honestly is a big piece of crap. We all drive Nissans, Fords, and Subarus and have little to no problems compared to our GM counterparts. Would love to see GM get back on top of quality again...I guess time will tell. Not quite sold yet.

You don't buy the Sonic because its sporty? Its a freaking turbo! Yeah it may not be an all wheel drive STI hatch, but it doesn't claim to be. You can drive the balls off of it in the city and still get 28-30 mpg. I have a 2011 Cruze ECO with the 1.4t (wife drive it) and I am in the process of buying a 2013 Sonic LTZ 1.4t. I am aware of what I am doing, putting my foot to the floor! Trifecta tune, exhaust, and intake coming shortly after I purchase! What is it other than a go cart, a toy? Oh, another thing to look out for, the Hyundai traction control system does not handle well in snow/ice! I live in the Chicago area and had to push three of my coworkers who all drive Hyundai's (Accent, Elantra, and Sonata) out of their parking spots, several times... This was with only two to three inches of snow!

A turbo car with the same HP as a naturally aspirated accent 1.6... Yeah talk about sport! Seriously though. If you want a small hot hatch, something like the veloster turbo make more senses. And like they mentionned... I don't know if you ever had a turbo car. But it's goddamn awefull to get good gas mileage if you have a heavy foot.
@MissionRestomod10 жыл бұрын
Did you read my comment? I already own a cruze with the same turbo engine, so yes i have owned a turbo car. People that call them hot hatches are either European or want to be. I like the hatch for utility and smaller size. No one buys a Sonic to race unless you like driving slow... its an econo box that is fun to drive. As for the Veloster, same traction issues, tiny back seat with no headroom. Im 6ft tall and my head touches the back glass. They also handle horribly due to the i beam rear suspension. The rear end kicks out with every bump.
@FilthyPeasantGaming10 жыл бұрын
YellowBird1980 I'm commenting your first line : (You don't buy the Sonic because its sporty? Its a freaking turbo!) You said it yourself, it's an econo box that will have a tendency to cost a lot more than the Accent because it has a turbo. For the same HP. Also funny you own a cruze, since it's technically a Korean car.

0-60 in these cars are about 9 secs. The starting prices are a marketing gimmick. Expect to pay over $20k. The sonic is cool for an eco box but they continue to make eco boxes look stupid. Theres no reason they cant make them look cooler. They can make a supercar looking eco box but they dont want to take sales away from their other models. They also have the tech to make a car get 60mpg but they want to milk the public. I have a mustang 5.0 that I programmed. It can run on 4 6 or 8 cylinders.
@thedefinitive629611 жыл бұрын
Seems kinda silly to try and pick a winner out of such a comparison. These are aimed at different types of people. Both are great cars in their own right and I actually think the Sonic might be slightly more impressive as an overall package. Personally, the extra $2k over the Accent would be worth it to me. It's just one of those things where you're going to like one over the other, depending on who you are and what you value in a car. Picking a "winner" just seemed kinda needless.
@KRACK99910 жыл бұрын
This is a terrible review. Are they really saying the sonic get 33 on the highway???? thats bull I have gotten over 42 average on the highway before. Turbo charged cars get better gas any day of the week.
@alexcole220211 жыл бұрын
It can, and very easily. The accent is about 9 - 9.4 seconds, the Sonic is around 7.5 - 8 seconds (They had two overweight adults do one and it was 9.2 seconds for the Sonic). Also don't listen to these fools, the Sonics MPG is higher than the Accents. Its 29 City, 40 HWY.

I think they should review the standard Sonic without the Turbo. I have one as a company car and its has good power and cost around 16 g's with the auto and I get 34.1 MPG Hwy/City Combined. 20 G's is to much for that as test turbo Sonic. Man
