Don't forget to put some oil on the filter O ring to get a proper seal.

A tip that's helped the longevity of MY vehicles: Pour a quart of fresh oil (any kind) into the engine BEFORE screwing the plug in and let it drain for at least a half hour. Doing so will get rid of MORE dirty oil than just slapping the plug back in after a couple of minutes. This is only for those that plan to keep their vehicles for the long haul, for everyone else...never mind!!!

Great comment dude severe OCD here just helped with that one !!! Last bimmer had the drain plug vertically facing downward which I loved, new one side like most so ocd went off thanks again happy holidays hope all is well !

@alrui: Thanks for the information! I personally always use full synth, and that's what I've heard from the dealers/shops I used to take it to before- the dealer may be trying to squeeze a few more bucks by recommending full synth, but the guys at the shop were also saying that since it works harder than the 2.0 to get up to speed, there's more potential for wear and tear. Whatever the choice is, it's best to be consistent. You're right in that it DOES say that the blend is acceptable as well. I'll add that note in! Also, thanks for the idea on a Jack Stand How-To w/ locations. It'll be added to the pipeline!

Great video. Nice and clear and informative. I had my mechanic do my oil change and the next morning I checked my dip stick and it was about a quart overfull. NOT GOOD so instead of taking it back to him not knowing if I would have to wait for the car AGAIN, I decided to drain a little on my own.
@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews4 жыл бұрын
Awesome, Steven! Thanks for the feedback and glad you were able to get in there and drain the excess! Let us know if there's something you'd like to see in specific and thanks for watching :)

Same thing happened to me ... they didnt wait until it was fully drainned and then put the reccommended amount of oil.. Always remember to open the top cap. I used a syringe with a small aquariaum hoose to remove the exxces without making a mess.

This IS the reason I do my own oil changes! The "change experts" ALWAYS overfill the engine, because they DON'T want to putz around and take time to fill it with the RIGHT amount of oil! After all, it's NOT THEIR car they are working on! It's JUST a paycheck!!!

They always throw the whole 5 qts. in. Was told it wouldn’t hurt, but I’m with you, overfilled is overfilled.

Can I also put both feet on gas and break on a 2013 escape with an intelligent key?
@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews4 ай бұрын
The gas and brake pedal are the intended method when the blade key is turned to ON/ ACC, but not to the final position where the engine would actually turn over and start. If you have a remote key fob, after doing some research I found this post on the FE forum and look at the second line posted by the user "Melman". It gives instructions to reset the oil life by pressing and holding the start button without holding the brake- and then going from there. I don't have the ability to test for you unfortunately as we only have the blade key/basic key with our SE. Let me know if this works by the way if you can- I'm sure others would love to know too! Thanks! www.fordescape.org/threads/how-do-you-reset-the-oil-change-message.110232/

Just a "heads up" the 2014 FE manual states for the 1.6 "Motorcraft SAE 5W- 20 Full Synthetic Motor Oil or Motorcraft SAE 5W- 20 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil" Full synthetic isnt a requirement (this may be different for the "13", etc. - always check the manual). How bout a video on jacking and jackstand placement? Its a question that gets asked a LOT on these cars. Thanks!
@TheOzthewiz3 жыл бұрын
There are arrow indicators on the rocker panel "cladding" at the "pinch weld" seam for jacking points. I always place short piece of 2x4 on the jack pivot and have that 2x4 contact the body just BEHIND that pinch weld. The best oil you should be using, because it's a turbo motor, is FULL SYNTHETIC. And because it's also a GDI engine, subject to increased carbon build up on the intake valves, you should choose an oil with the LOWEST VOLATILITY(evaporation) possible. I use Pennzoil "ultra platinum" FULL SYNTHETIC that has the lowest volatility of all the best oils (including Amsoil), check "Project Farm" KZbin channel for details. Btw, I got my last 5 quart jug of Pennzoil from Amazon for $24.97!

what did you use for a jacking point? I didnt see a good spot when I swapped off the winter tires
@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mikeyjock, I use the areas indicated by the arrows and the rectangular recessed cavities just behind the subframe. A normal jack will bend the subframe, but I use a soft piece of pine 2x4 as the subframe will bite into the wood but will still be supported. It's just a bit quicker if you don't mind having the block around. I can get back to you if you'd like on the manual suggested locations, but I assume you have a manual as well- just let me know! Thanks for watching :)

all i see mentioned is the pinch weld on the rockers...lame. this is the first car I have seen that didnt give you a center point to lift front and rear. waiting for rockauto shipment prior first DIY oil change on this car. I will do it the slow way until I get this tray out of the way and see whats under there. :)

Great video, but I actually had a question about the hoses & "harness" that is in the way of reaching the oil filter. Are any of those related to, or connected to, the electronic steering rack? I recently did my oil change EXACTLY as you did - a little oil spilling on the hoses/harness - wiped it up, etc, etc. Everything went great except the next day, after driving my vehicle, a warning came on the dash saying steering assist failure and my power steering went out! I know prev models of the escape had a recall for this component, but I am just hoping I didn't get any oil on the electrical parts, being that the power steering on the 2013 Ford Escape is electrical and not fluid. Any help/guidance/info would be greatly appreciated! Mahalo!
@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike- sorry for the delay in response- good question. I do not believe there should be any association with the power steering and the area of the oil change that you may have done- even if oil dripped down on the hoses and lines, it shouldn't have affected something like your steering. That being said, I have the shop manual and can do some digging for you- talk to you soon sir. Thanks for the comment and question and for checking out the channel!

HI, I have Ford Escape 2013 SEL 1.6 ecoboost - what I just looked at the video is it suitable for my car?
@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews4 жыл бұрын
Hi @Alda_Ltd, yes that's correct- this is also a 2013 1.6L. My SE and your SEL only have differences in cosmetic and electrical features, not engine or oil so this would indeed be the same procedure. Thanks and good question

@@aldaltd776 If you're talking about the above amazon linked filters, Motorcraft is always best because it's a safe bet as it's spec'd by Ford. Fram is dependable and known to make good filters. Wix is marketed as a primo aftermarket, but it's probably same as Fram at the end of the day. Neither of the filters I listed are bad, hence recommending them, but Motorcraft is the standard recommended by Ford. Hope this helps!

Ok so I watch this video so I can see how you got the oil filter off because it was put in the perfect spot where you can’t get to it. So you can understand my frustration when you didn’t show us how to take it off with the tool that is required to take off the oil filter. Normally, there it takes more than your hand to remove but i guess you only hand tighten it.
