You people are amazing. This video has done nothing but create mass hysteria. I own a 2017 explorer and am not at all worried about it. This guy made this his freaking retirement project. I’ve been a mechanic for 18 years and all I own are Fords. Over the years I’ve learned that no matter who make the car they are all going to ha e failures. If he did this the smart way the engine would have never came out and the only other part that would have been replaced would have been the primary chain tensioner only. The phasers didn’t even need to be removed.

@@jonathanallen8236 thanks Jonathan, you hit it! I've owned a 2012, '14, '16, and my current 2018 Taurus. All, except for the '18, I put on over 208k miles, and no issues with a water pump. I'm not a particularly maintenance type of guy, except for oil changes and tires. And those big ass Taurus(es) never have me any trouble. Good and solid. I would've thought draining the oil pan should've been the first thing to try to keep the damage to a minimum while doing the other repairs, but it's easy to be a critic from the cheap seats. I suppose that since water migrates to the bottom, the rod bearing journals and connecting rods probably weren't left soaking in the water/coolant mixture, but I have no idea how close they rotate toward the bottom of the pan in that engine so I can't say for sure.

It doesn't weep into the oil pan. Watch the video dummy
@pinpointautomotiverepair15926 жыл бұрын
tom h, it depends upon the failure. If it fails as designed as in this case, the pump will weep externally through its dedicated weep hole. If it fails catastrophically is can potentially fill the crankcase with coolant and throw the timing off. In our case we were lucky and this condition was caught before that happened.

It can be, but it is very difficult to do. You will also have a very hard time installing the timing cover without smearing the sealant and risking a leak. Myself personally, I wouldn't attempt this repair in vehicle, but that's just me!
@pinpointautomotiverepair15926 жыл бұрын
This vehicle had 120,000 miles roughly at time of service.
@tomh67796 жыл бұрын
Am I correct though that it’s not designed to weep into the oil pan?
@pinpointautomotiverepair15926 жыл бұрын
tom h, correct. It's not designed to leak into the block. It can potentially do so however depending on how the pump fails. Ideally, as the bearing wears the coolant begins to leak externally through the weep hole providing a visual indication of needed repair. If neglected or if something catastrophic happens it can flood the block with coolant.

Water in the engine oil so the engine is compromised now ...so when the coolant pisses out of the water pump gasket the 20 something bolt housing traps the coolant in the housing and it seaped through the crank shaft ? You need a new motor now no? You cant have all that water where oil should be
@DK-bk1vq3 жыл бұрын
@Michael Bellantuono The coolant went into the oil pan, and the shop floor, after he removed the water pump housing. That's also why he added two or three quarters of oil as the coolant and oil was draining from the oil pan to get rid of any trace coolant. Even after draining your coolant from your car, you'll always have a bunch of coolant, still within the engine block, where it normally is, anyway. That's why shade tree mechanics change or flush their coolant, drive for a couple days, then do it again to get all the remaining old coolant out. There was no evidence, nor did he mention coolant running through the cars oil system. The Taurus water pump has a double gasket. If the first layer gets flattened, then coolant seeps through the weep hole. When you have to keep adding coolant you know it's time to get your pump changed out. If you let it continue on that way, till the second gasket goes, THEN you'll eventually get coolant running throughout your oil system, head gaskets, etc, and oil pan. Yeah, then your engine is "compromised."
