Fantastic video , Honda dealer charged $169 for coolant flush. Next time I can do it by myself . Thanks for sharing

Glad this was helpful. Compatible coolant only cost about $20 i think.

Excellent video. You explained everything thoroughly, used your camera to include a “visual” to all of the steps, and you got right to the point.

Thanks for your feedback. I’m glad you found this helpful. I try to make videos for people that are familiar with some DIY car repair and might want to know the important details of the project before diving into it.

Just did this on my '13 CRV. I filled as much as I could, massaged the upper/lower hoses and topped off. Everyone says once I start the car with heater on max temp and fans, the coolant level will be sucked down. Mine slowly raised and made a mess. After cleaning the mess on the ground and down the back of my radiator and all over my fan assembly, I turned off the car, put the cap on, and drove the car for a while and the heat eventually returned. I will check the level tomorrow.

Cool video!! I will definitely put this to use! One more tip, it's good to use a spill proof funnel kit specifically for coolant changes. It works a dream on my Hyundai because no spills!! Cheers.

You should turn the heater on hot while car is running and leave on hot and then start your work. This will allow fluid that resides in the heater core to escape.

You’re absolutely right. Maybe I forgot to mention that here.

I’m sorry but I’m little puzzled! When you say leave car on and heat on hot and then start your work Are you saying turn the car and heater on before draining, plugging and then refilling?
@realname65866 ай бұрын
@@santropez8323 What I'm saying is that before changing the fluid, run the engine and turn the heat/climate control on hot for a short time. Leave the heat settings untouched. Turn off the engine. Wait for the fluid to cool down. Follow draining instructions. Refill and burp. Run the engine and burp. Make sure that the same amount of fluid goes back in as it came out. Must get all air out of system. It's easy but has to be done. After you're done, readjust climate control settings.

One question. You suggest turning the car on, putting the heater on and waiting til the fan comes on and then topping it off...but you aren't supposed to remove the cap when the engine is hot...and you just made it hot. :(
@JoesCarSmartsNY Жыл бұрын
You want to use a rag (or two), and maybe a pair of gloves, to cover the radiator cap while you twist it open. The heat and pressure after idling to reach operating temp is not as dangerous as if you were just on the highway for hours and the entire system is heat soaked. “don’t take the cap off when hot” is a warning for people that aren’t prepared for some coolant spray/spillage when the system is warm. If you’re alert and careful you can safely open the cap for this procedure.

Joe tell me about those industrial battery terminals and cables. Thanks Joe C.
@JoesCarSmartsNY2 жыл бұрын
The terminals aren’t available anymore. They were made by “Streetwires” (a car audio supplier) circa 2000. The heavy cables are from Sky High Car Audio. The terminations on the cables at the terminals are cool also. The wire goes inside the center of the connector and there is a collar that gets tightened to pinch the cable and retain it inside the connector. Hi, Can you clarify please. Do you leave the radiator cap off till the fan kicks in and the car is at full temperature? Also do you only fill the coolant bottle at the end after the engine is purged of air?
@JoesCarSmartsNY3 жыл бұрын
Cap should stay off until full temp and heat is blowing hot inside. I fill the coolant bottle at the beginning. Not sure if it makes a difference or not. I think the process usually takes me 15-20 mins until I fell confident that air or purged. Usually a little more air will escape over a few days and I’ll have to top off the coolant once and then we’re good

Hey bud, great video. I skimmed through it for now until I can properly watch. Are you adding full strength coolant? In my manual it says 50:50 with water. Thanks

How many miles til you have to change coolant?
@JoesCarSmartsNY4 жыл бұрын
Your best bet is to follow the owners manual and I’m not sure what that says for coolant. I replaced mine around 100k miles.

Great Video the most important thing I got out of it that other videos so far DO NOT have is that after you drive it let it cool down for 30 min. then check it. It seemed it did not take it all according to my pathetic guess as to the amount of fluid I took out vs the amount I put back in but when I checked it after the 30 min you mentioned the reservoir needed some and the level was significantly lower in the radiator to where I had to add some there too. So now I will continue to check it for a few days. Wheeeee
@JoesCarSmartsNY4 жыл бұрын
The important part is you're checking it later on. That's critical until the level stabilizes.

Do I need to add some type of radiator cleaner after I drain the coolant or is that not necessary?
@JoesCarSmartsNY3 жыл бұрын
If you’re doing this preventatively and don’t have any cooling issues right now, skip the radiator flush/cleaner. If you’re way overdue and have a symptom that makes you think there’s a blockage or restriction you could use a radiator cleaning product. Just be sure to follow directions with it.

Your videos are helpful. Why don't you spray your engine bay and rinse it. It is very bad. I spray cleaner and wash it down and it looks fairly new.
@JoesCarSmartsNY3 жыл бұрын
I do that sometimes also. However I’ve found that this year they didn’t do a good job sealing the front lip under the hood so dirt comes in very quickly. I tried to buy a seal from the dealer but apparently there’s different versions of the hood and I’d have to buy an updated version to be able to add a better rubber seal to keep more dirt out. Thanks for watching and giving me your feedback.
