Just got mine, an ‘18. Was looking for a LS430 but it wasn’t easy to find a clean one with documentation so my wife said just get a newer, lower mileage SUV and bingo! The GX light went on. I think the LS430 and the GX are the epitome of Lexus quality and reliability. Thanks for the video, nice job!

I look for this vehicle everywhere and have been for months. There are plenty but none with exceptionally low miles for the age. When one pops up, it's mine! I'm OK with 75-100k mi because you cannot kill these things and they hold their value because of it. - I'm going to scan the marketplace again now.

I watched a video that Car Care Nut had done about the UR series of engines and one thing he has noticed is that a lack of coolant changes can eat away at the head gasket, cause a leak, and blow the gasket on aging engines. Obviously preventable by replacing coolant and not letting it get too acidic.

Not an SUV, its a proper truck! Body on frame, solid rear axle, incredibly capable off road, comfortable, super reliable, understated and not tacky, and will run forever if properly maintained.

I just did the timing belt / water pump in my 05 Gx470, it was 90k overdue!!! It has 281k I’d definitely buy another! Our had 140k when we bought it. All we’ve done is change oil!

Nice. Those GX470s are built like tanks. I was looking at them myself but wanted something a little lower mileage than the 250-300k the ones being sold had. Any lower miles and for a little extra money I was in GX460 territory which made the decision pretty straightforward

Back in 2021 I sold my 2016 Limited 4Runner full time 4WD and bought a 1 owner leased 2018 GX460 Premium. The V8 and the transmission on the GX makes a world of difference. Of course, the KDSS, ATRAC which is standard on the GX460 is another plus! Mines has been to the OBX dunes, trails and mountains. Absolutely love the GX. Thanks for the video.

My wife had a 2010 RX but got in an accident so we replaced it with a 2020 RX and she really likes it. I liked that older 2010 RX and said let's get another like that for a relatively low cost. But we live in the mountains of Colorado and could use a rugged vehicle so she thought we should get a GX instead of an older RX. But most of them were very high mileage, typically over 150k miles. Two months ago we found a silver 2013 GX in very good condition with only 21k miles so we got it. While it drives like a truck due to having a frame chassis, it appears it can handle any bad driving condition. We got a 4 foot snow 6 weeks ago and the GX didn't care.
@Dan_And_Daves_Garage8 ай бұрын
That's a really low mileage example. I think one of the lowest I saw for sale was in the mid-50s but it wasnt anywherd near me. Driving like a truck doesn't bother me, especially since I'm used to driving my 80 series. I also don't think it's a valid complaint. How else is it supposed to drive? Its body on frame with decent ground clearance and a live rear axle. Of course it "drives like a truck" because it is one, haha.
@drwisdom18 ай бұрын
@@Dan_And_Daves_Garage The RX drives like a car and is more sporty. We had an 1994 80 series and gave it to my stepson for his wife to use as a daily driver. While slower, I found the 80 series more fun to drive than the more cushy ride of the GX.

@drwisdom14 ай бұрын
@@Mi5taKlean We also thought about getting a 4Runner. 4Runners are really popular here and the commonest vehicle in Colorado. We went to a used car dealer and they had 50 of them. But they were all in the mid 30s or higher with 60k miles and up. Even though the GX is really just a 4Runner with an 8 cylinder engine, they aren't near as popular and cost less than 4Runners. I think the looks of 4Runners make them more popular with young people. We are old and have large steep hills to climb, so a lower priced GX is a better fit for us.

Nice review. One tip: if you're trying to highlight a sound it might make sense to not have music playing during that time... Couldn't even hear the engine noise you were trying to highlight over the background music.

That year looks good too. I have a 2017 and it looks like you have more of an approach angle. These guys are actually made in Japan and the high wood trim quality shows it.
@Dan_And_Daves_Garage4 ай бұрын
The 2010-13 GX460s do have more approach angle. Allegedly as well the simpler front fascia makes it easier to install a winch bumper. I'll probably do an update video later but so far, everything has been great and no issues.

@Dan_And_Daves_Garage2 ай бұрын
How bad is it? Upholstery is not my forte, but if simply a deep clean and conditioner doesn't help, the only other option is to get it reupholstered. If it's cracked and splitting at the seams, that's your only option.

These are nice but used ones are almost the same price as a used LX. I’d rather have the LX for the same price.
@Dan_And_Daves_GarageАй бұрын
Couple reasons an LX (100 and 200 series) was not considered. Price wise you are looking at a preface lift high mileage 200 series, or a very nice 06+ 100 series. David has an 06 LX470 that's been featured on the channel so I am familiar with them. 1. It's simply too large. I'm not the only one driving this, and my wife needs to be able to comfortably drive without feeling like she's in a boat. It's also too tall for her to put the baby in the car seat without struggling 2. Fuel economy is worse both city and highway. I don't do enough towing or hauling to need the extra capacity. 3. And finally price. No way you can find a clean LX570 same year and mileage for the same price as a GX. You have to make concessions somewhere, and that's most likely both being older, closer to 08, and mileage probably up towards 150k+. I plan to keep the GX for as long as possible, and starting with a lower mileage example just makes more sense. I sat in one and really liked it, but it just didn't fit the use case and I wasn't willing to make those concessions

DO NOT skimp on cheap gas. My 2012 GX now needs a new catalytic converter due to 4 years of filling up with 87. Costing me $2800. Also, that barn door handle is a pain and will stick. Cost me $300 to fix.
@Dan_And_Daves_Garage24 күн бұрын
Have not heard of anyone else having issues due to fuel choice despite some having strong opinions and feelings. Are you sure it was due to using 87 or maybe contamination of some sort? Really curious because the forums are full of what-ifs and no results.

@@Dan_And_Daves_Garage Not sure. But that is the opinion of 3 mechanics... one of them at the Lexus dealership. I've been riding around with the engine check light (P430 code)and 4 LO light on for the last 2 years. I don't have $2800. Gas mileage is same averaging 17/20. No issues with ride or acceleration. I've used CataClean and that worked initially but it no longer clears the dash lights.

Not sure about the octane being the issue, because in countries other than the USA, Lexus allows use of lower octane fuels (right in their owners manual). More important could be the use of top tier fuel. If you’re not familiar just do a search. Top tier fuels are much cleaner.
