Here in Colombia, just recently Toyota started selling their lesser models such as the Corolla. As a brand it is mainly known for the Prado lineup, for this it is perceived as a luxury brand, and it sells these luxury trucks as hot bread. But most of the prestige that comes from having a modern Prado or a Lexus GX or LX is precisely because they are the same vehicle as a 20-year-old one. They are bulletproof and are extremely capable of road. On many places of the country, those are the 2 most important features. As of today in cities you can found swarms of modern Prados that retail for over $85k and on rural areas most of the trucks you find are 90’s, 80’s,70’s and even 60’s Land cruisers fully working and carrying 3 times their cargo capacity. They are so bullet proof they have embedded themselves on culture. Outselling by a mile premium German brands, while having even more expensive models.

quality engineering that will last longer than you want. i'm still driving my 2005 GX. i paid $50k and it was worth the money. it has been 100% reliable, and fun. but now 15 years later it's time for something new. sadly, everything that used to come standard is now an option, and to get this vehicle fully loaded costs way more that i believe is reasonable. i'm buying a subaru forester touring for under $40k. i'll keep the lexus though. my daughter was a baby when i got it and now it's her turn to drive it.

The Toyota and Lexus vehicles age very well. The longer we own, the more we love them because they are very dependable and less fussy than other brands. They are only brands that our family members keep to 200K miles and beyond. Some have reached 300K and still run dependably strong.

biggest issues ive seen with these trucks: -secondary air pumps w/ switching valves -kdss motor wire terminal corrosion -air suspension issues -leaking a/c evaporators -PRNDL switch on transmission -exhaust manifold cracks my issue is that certain check engine codes will limp mode the truck into 4LO leaving you in a very bad situation depending where you are. Good to know how to disconnect battery/reset the code if going on a long trip

And when I say biggest issues I also meant those are pretty much the only issues to be common aside from the usual o2 sensor or other universally common issues in any vehicle. I can't remember ever seeing a bad water pump on this engine which is usually common on a lot of Toyota engines.

one major long term issue with these Lexus vehicles is the ABS is part of the brake master cylinder. So replacement goes from $350 to $2500 if you can get one. Coming out of Corona the refrain will be "back order"
@bliglum4 жыл бұрын
That would be a problem, if Lexus parts failed with any sort of frequency, which they don't.
@daveh26124 жыл бұрын
Is that still an issue, or are we talking about the older early 2000s models with the Aisin ABS/master cylinder mess?
@gjemd4594 жыл бұрын
@@bliglum My son is a Lexus/Toyota mechanic. The Aisin ABS/master is a frequent issue on several models with age, the GX 460 is one. He reports depending on the climate. Severe winter temps with extreme heat in summer will shorten the life of the master cylinder. It is THE big ticket item on the Lexus SUV. I respond to the premise that the GX 460 is bought by people who keep them forever. Also a consideration in a 10 year old use model. Right now anything older than 2010 and your paying $2500 for a low mileage salvage unit or direct ship from Japanese used parts source. New OEM not available. Many chose to drive on if the ABS goes but the master still intact. But the reverse and you're springing for some big money. My son has test driven these rigs with 600-700,000 miles and they look and drive like brand new. Maybe the best vehicles ever made. My comments are given it's a fundamentally 15 year old model.
@bcatz4544 жыл бұрын
@@bliglum Yeah, you haven't owned a Lexus/Toyota ever......Can confirm, every 150k miles you're looking at replacing one of these at $2500 part only. I have a 2006 V8 4runner. It has a slight lift and larger tires. 16 mpgs is about all I can get out of it, but again that not why you buy them. I can’t get over how well built these SUVs are. 167k miles on it and routine oil changes and a new timing belt is all it has ever needed. Interior is absolutely solid with no squeaks. A 2020 and up GX460 will probably be the replacement for my 4Runner if I ever retire it. I love modern cars and am actually excited about what Ford has to bring to the table with the new Bronco, but it will be hard to get me out of a tried and true Toyota!

It's funny you mentioned this vehicle lasting forever. I just bought a used 2018 base model with only 16k miles on it, because I bought a 1990 pickup brand new in 1990. It now has over 600k miles. All of my kids drove it during college years. It has been in the wilds of Montana where I grew up in some of the toughest conditions. I recently put my son in it and sent him off to New York without a worry of, "will he have car trouble" on the way. I am confident my GX460 will last as long and be as dependable.
