Thanks for the video! Have to change the lower control arms on my Mazda 6 2013, and all the other examples I've seen on KZbin has been removed from cars with almost no rust etc and no problems removing the bolts. So nice to see a repair on a car that probably compares to my own after years of driving on salted winter roads 👌

I feel like heating the low arm control while there are rubber element nearby is not a good choice. I would try spraying WD40 first.

Did bad lower control arm caused your steering wheel to shake at highway speeds?
@vegeta420z2 ай бұрын
I learned all my car stuff off KZbin I did my front and rear brakes pads and rotors couple months ago. Then my outer tie rods went out and I decided to do the inner and outer tie rods, Had damaged grease boots on the swaybar links so I did those as well. When I went in for my alignment they told me that my lower ball joint, And some of my bushings on the lower control armwe're bad. So I still drove my car around for about a week and a 1/2 cause I didn't have the money to get the new lower control arms ( I know you can change just the bushings and ball join but I figured might as well just swap the whole thing out) My new lower control arms just came in the mail today, So going to swap them out tomorrow hoping and praying the bolts aren't stuck. I don't have an impact so just gonna have to get clever you some leverage breaker bars whatever it takes. Good video the only complaint on the video is I wish that you included torque specs. If I remember after I look up the torque specs I will post them here and FYI My vehicle is a 2013 Mazda CX5 sport.

I'm doing this job now! Did you have any trouble lining up the ball joints? Driver side lined up easily but for some reason the passenger is at a really tough angle and having a lot of trouble reseating it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated

I do them so often I can kind of judge the angle by looking at it so it lines right up with the knuckle. i hope this video helps. feel free to like and subscribe for more & if you can, please help the channel out by giving a super thanks. I just did driver side last night on my daughters 2015. And I'm here to tell you lining up that ball joint was a PIA! I needed to move the car so I could close garage door for the night. I was abt to give up when I needed to get the wheel on and straight to roll it back. I removed the front bolt then inserted the ball joint. The front bushing did not reach all the way thru to insert bolt but bushing was in the slot. Put wheel on, lowered the jack and heard a clunk. Looking under at the front mount, it went right into place. Had to line up the bushing with a long punch but bolt went in and I tightened everything up. Now the passenger side is another day! Video makes it look so easy, when really it looked like the key in this video it turn wheel full left, align ball joint to knuckle. Guess I will take that approach on the other side and see how it goes.
@klb19568 ай бұрын
Anythingauto, The poster was asking for any tips, but you didn't offer any, other than your response of having done them so often you just know the angle. Don't see how that was helpful. Otherwise the video was great for us driveway mechanics.

Why is that ball joint pinch bolt grade 5? The head just snapped off without much torque. It should be a grade 8 bolt right?

I'm still learning, and really know very little, but just curious why not replace that bolt on the lower control arm? After heating and beating on it, seems like replacing it would be a good idea. I just bought inner and outer tie rods for my 2013 cx-5 (shop told me it needed this, and looking at the boot on the outer tierods it definitely looks like it) but what is the indicator that the lower control arm needs replaced? Was it just the boot on the bottom looking rough? Or are there other indicators that this needs done? Also what would be the down side of drilling that bolt out?
@AnythingAuto4 ай бұрын
@vegeta420z6 bolts aren't cheap so replacing them when it's not necessary a lot of people will not pay it. If you Hammer the bolt correctly and clean it up nicely, there's no need to replace it. I am not sure how this bolt looked, but if it's all rusted out personally I would replace it. Control arms can move around which makes them bad or you can save your tires by looking at the rubber. Holes or tares or slight separation makes them bad. i hope this video helps. feel free to like and subscribe for more & if you can, please help the channel out by giving a super thanks. Great Video. I too have a 2013 CX-5. Took it in for a front brake pad and rotor replacement. After road test the mechanic said he heard a light clicking and thought it might be a bad control arm. Didn't say which side noise came from. Said they would need to do a diagnostic test ($160) to determine.. Said the car is driveable.. Can't they just look at the control arm to determine? Appreciate any insight..
@AnythingAuto7 ай бұрын
It will be very hard to determine without a lift. I suggest trying out another shop. The fact that they are telling you all of that money just to diagnose is a little ridiculous so I would definitely try somewhere else. Clicking could be steut mounts. Control arm play. Jack it up and start feeling for any type of play. i hope this video helps. feel free to like and subscribe for more & if you can, please help the channel out by giving a super thanks. That clicking noise is your drive shaft and the boots may have punchered or rotted . Water, rain and dirt gets in there but if you get to it soon enough you could save it
@SL-pg4dh2 ай бұрын
They could check by moving the wheel from side to side for any play
