2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek 1st Drive & Off-Road Review

( www.TFLcar.com ) Is the 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek more than just a taller Subaru Impreza and if so is it off-road worthy? Those are the questions that we try to answer in the video first drive review as we test the new 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek on the beautiful Island of Oahu, Hawaii. At 8.7 inches of ground clearance the new Subaru XV Crosstrek certainly has enough ground clearance to be off-road worthy. When you combine that with Subaru's all-wheel-drive and new body cladding the parts are correct for more than just a another small commuter Crossover in an already crowded market segment. Honestly; at first I thought u guys were terrible car reviewers, just another KZbin car reviewer(s). Now, I have to say you guys are my absolute favorite, I've subscribed and I love your reviews. The Roman and Nathan combo is great, kinda like beavis and butthead. Both have the same 8.7" ground clearance and symmetrical all wheel drive. Forester has better approach angle and more torque and "X-mode".

Same as 90% of Subies...Good if you'd like mild off road or snow capability, MPG, AND enough room for a 3-5 meatbag family kick around. Don't mind a frumpier looking car? Get the Forester.

I've been thinking about getting an older crossover or SUV.Something that can be a half decent family vehicle plus a daily driver. Driving my pickup to work and back is getting painful at the gas pump.I'm starting to think that maybe I would like a Subaru.However the one in this video is smaller than I want.While I suspect that the kids will start moving out in a couple of years give or take,they ain't out yet.While sometimes on the interstate I have to step on it abit I'm not looking for a race car.If you know much about the older subaru's can you maybe expound on the space,cargo area and if they can do light towing?While none of us are really tall I do weigh over 200 lbs USA weight and am starting to like my comfort.Being in my mid 40's my body is stating to demand more comfort than it used to.Like comfortable seats,good heater and decent AC. I don't want leg cramps after a 30 minute drive.

I got a slower 0 to 60 mph run using the paddle-shifters. They work best for staying in the power-band when pulling through corners.

This. Just love the rims and the styling on this way more. It's smaller though so if you need the cargo room go with the Forester.

I love the idea of this jacked up Impreza, but they need an optional diesel. With quasi off-road intensions, you need low-end grunt. This gas 4 banger is fine for drivers who want mpg and dont care about performance. Enthusiasts could get power and mpg with a diesel.

I looked at one today, I like the exterior, the way it looks but the interior is less than impressive. All the dealer had was a manual version so I declined a test drive but I was not impressed with the lack of options, you cannot get power seats in this and at this time it is a one choice engine, 148 HP. Unless they make another engine available I do not think I'll be looking at this again.

Subaru XV is equipped with central locking differential. Thats why its good in off-roading.

It's basically the same thing as the regular IMPREZA which is $3000-4000 cheaper depending on options and at that price $21000-23000, might as well buy a Forester, you get more space, clearance, and power.

I just ordered mine in the Ice Silver color. I can't wait to get it. I go snowboarding in the winter up in New York so the car should be more then capable. I had an Outback before so I'm not new to Subaru. I know the 2.0L engine is slower then they're 2.5L but I'm not looking to win any drag races. With soaring gas prices today I like that this car gets great fuel economy.

Thanks so much for your reviews, you all do a great job. Can you tell me what the interior noise levels are like please? Would you consider it as too loud, acceptable, very quiet, too much CVT engine noise or acceptable, and will that be on the full review this week? Your input is greatly appreciated.

I drive one and the interior noise level is acceptable I would say. Hardly any engine noise, but some street ambient sound sounds. Unless you punch it, the interior is quiet.

I agree - Subaru should be bringing us this car with the option of their direct injected turbo gasoline power plant for the mountain crowd with 70% more power and a turbo diesel with a giant fuel tank and twice the torque and 25% better mileage for those of us who like to fill up less often. They could score big by marketing a TDI cruising range of 800 miles between fill-ups.

I'm thinking about Trading my STI in for one but i have plans to mod the motor an get power up to around 340awhp an long throws with a shifter are a half hour fix it's called a short throw shifter my sti sits to low at stock height for the roads i drive on to go hunting an cliff diving plus the STI attracts to much attention from cops and kids in civics

The beef with this car is this......If someone wants a small car with Subaru's Symmetrical AWD, then they'll get the Impreza and if they want speed, a WRX or an STI. If someone wants a small SUV from Subaru, they'll get a Forester, and if they want more space, an Outback. I can't quite see the position this car plays in Subaru's lineup. If someone wants a Subaru for off-road, a Forester or even an Outback will do very well with that. It seems like a good idea, but

Wonderful looking car with the engine and drivetrain proven to last and hold value. Competing with the Suzuki SX4? No way - they can't sell those cars - Zuki claiming Bankruptcy in the US whereas Subaru will be here forever. If Suby were to add some real cushion into their seats their sales would even improve. They sell an amazing 4cyl. Outback that looks and performs great but has seats that actually hurt. Can't wait to drive this Crosstrek though.

Get it with proper gearbox, never get automatic. I would also recommend diesel - try it, for me its better. But other then that, I think you guys are the only american reviewers, who can be watched :D I mean you are really good.

The XV promises cool but for the love of everything why can't Subaru give the new Impreza's a horsepower boost. The weezy at best 2.0L engines are a joke. To all those fan boys who are going to argue that the new engine is faster....get bent it's way SLOWER! With a small light pressure turbo charger (like a lot of other manufactures are doing) the car could have real horsepower and still get the MPG's.....again Fanboys need not respond you know that's the truth so deal with it!

man I was sure bugged by this review! it's serious business looking at reviews if your going to buy a new car. why not pick a better venue to drive this particular model?? really you fell short for me on actually putting the crosstreck through its paces. I live very rural and mountainous conditions. no speed demon here....just want to know if she'll get me home when it's just snowed a foot.

this car really lacks power took her on a test drive twice once in winter, it did good on slushy roads on the day we drove and now in spring was hoping for better power on a sunny day, as my wife and I like the look of this car but same result, no major getup I think it needs a v6 but I have never owned anything other than a v8 so lack of power for me is noticed right away. Hope this helps

I bought mine last year. I'm approaching 15K miles. Quick overview positives and negatives: Positives: 1. Plenty of room. The wife, my son, and I all went on a week (7 days) long road trip to Hershey with everything we needed. 2. AWD system is excellent. I drove in a blizzard. Not kidding, 2 inches per hour, with at least 6 inches of slush and ice accumulated. I had some minor slippage, but almost all of the slipping was predictable. 3. Respectable fuel economy. Not the best thing at the pump, but expect a real world 26-28 mpg. Negatives: 1. Transmission (manual) is geared low. I drive a 35 miles stretch at 78mph every day for work (both ways). This vehicle turns at 3700 rpm while doing so. 2. Body roll. I noticed this immediately during my test drive, so hop in one and see if it is too much for you. 3. Not unique. Subaru makes both the Forster and Outback which are very similar vehicles. Does this model have any real advantages? I don't really think so. 4. Poor voice commands. Trying to use your phone while it is hooked up to bluetooth is frustrating to say the least. It is compounded by having to reply to multiple menu prompts before any action will actually happen.

DO NOT BUY THIS CAR, It has problems with the CVT juddering at low speeds, its slow, the manual transmission isnt very good either, the entertainment system keeps on freezing, oil light wont turn off, worst car ever
