I encourage everyone to spend $20 and get a diagnostic tool. They can relieve a lot of anxiety when the dreaded check engine light comes on. Mine came on today and I was stoked to find out it was just the dumb auxiliary battery that this car shouldn't have in the first place.

Very helpful, thank you! Note, the vent hose was very loose on my replacement battery, it would have fallen out the minute I hit a bump in the road, so I had to use a bit of electrical tape to secure it.

I had the same code and read the battery and it was bad. Changed it and the check engine light is still on. That black tube at the end when job the hole in the back of the battery. Love the video. I would of saved lots of time if I would saw these first.

Update...I did the second part about erasing the codes on and it turned off the check engine light. Thank you very much.

I got a Auxiliary battery that's in the trunk. I also got a AGM battery later on for the main battery and really holds a good charge and every time I check the charge its always near 90-100% charge. I wouldn't go back to using lead acid batteries anymore.@@chevyssboy89

You need to drive it and test out the start/stop function to see if the check engine light comes back on. The module on top of the main battery won't engage the auxiliary if you just start it up and let it idle. The modules are known to go bad.

I have a 2012 Malibu 2lt has 185k miles on it I bought a 2015 Malibu LTZ only 77k miles on it right now then bought a 2016 Malibu 2.0 premier I will say the 2012 has been the best so far the 2015 has had quite a few issues with it 2016 been good so far with on 62k miles on it

Looks like a standard lawn tractor battery (they are a bit more CCA, either 275 or 350). Would be tempted to use that.

As he says, most of the time a P305F turns out to be bad aux battery in the trunk. So check that first.

Got the same code, replaced main battery twice & auxiliary battery once, replaced the battery current sensor and no go, turns right on with a jumper but by itself it won’t crank, any reason why the battery keeps draining?

So this same problem happen with me but my small battery positive terminal and ground were loose so I tighten them and cleared the code and was fine for about a month then the check engine light came back with the same code. I'll check to see if they came loose again but if that's not the issue any ideas what I'd be dealing with?

It’s a permanent code I believe. I *think* it has to be reset by a dealer or someone one with a special scan tool that a dealer has, that’s what I was told. Might be some truth to it,I have the same code
