I just installed the Gen5DIY harness in my 2024 Silverado HD. I used the video here to give me insight about removing the plastic housing covering the wiring and electronics. Things are not much different from the earlier years. Everything connected properly and the radar detector works!

Was a plug & play install for me. Took about 10 mins. I rode about 4 weeks without my RD. Felt naked the whole time. I’m back in business now.

I just installed this into a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali and it worked perfectly...so quick and easy to install.

Will this work with the 2019 Silverado RST? I do not have lane departure feature.

Where can I get that harness?

Will this work on a 2020 GMC Sierra SLT 3.0 Duramax? I have already ordered one so I hope it does. I have only been able to get about 4 - 5 volts DC from any of the wires in the rear view mirror harnesses. Hopefully I am just doing something wrong.

How do I do this on my 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 don’t have that box behind the mirror

Mine don’t have the box neither, did you figure it out?

This harness will not work if you have the standard rear view mirror without lane departure. Blendmount should mention that

The video says this will work for Uniden, but the website for the harness says it will not. I have a Uniden r7..will this work? If not, what will?

You will need to reach out to them for the R3/R7 compatible harness.

Wait a second. I just received one for my 2018 Silverado and the wiring harness that you sent isn’t a plug n play as shown in the video. It have a hot wire with a fuse and a separate wire to mount to a ground. The reason I purchased from you was that I though it was going to be a simple plug n play. Very misleading. UPDATE: Since installing this piggy-back fuse line in the location indicated in the instructions. I started noticing that my back-up cam screen started going blue. I had to make two service appointments, one to order parts and the other to install. After installing the new parts the tech stated that the drop in voltage continued and popped open the fuse box and unplugged the harness. After that the issue with the screen went away. Just use the power cord that came with your radar detector. I wasted two annual leave days plus the cost of buying this crap.

I used the mirrortap, insert a pin on 2 wires and thats it, same as plug and play minus the plug. Worth a try bud.

While this harness is super well built it takes ALOT more muscle and prying to pull the existing plugs out than this video shows (bring tools for this if you have them). Also to slide the bottom half of the harness off the mirror you actually need to remove the entire mirror assembly off and use a small screwdriver/trim tool to get the tabs loose (not shown in this video). Furthermore if you order the harness with the extra bluetooth dongle plug for the first generation Valentine One you have to tuck it carefully between parts or the plastic trim will not go back over the windshield. Also for reference this DIY applies to almost all 2015-2020 Chevy Tahoes, GMC Yukons with rain sensors and autodimming mirrors (and maybe Cadillac Escalades??).

I didn’t have to remove my mirror. Mine went together just like in the video. I went a few steps further and used micro zip ties to make it look like a factory install.

This video doesn’t match my 2014 GMC Sierra. I had to drop the overhead console and remove the rear view mirror to make this happen. Lot tougher install than this video.

Hi Adam Can you please tell me the color of the wires you used
@Kaizer_9114 жыл бұрын
@@arturobalderas7679 I used the harness by Gen5DIY but like I stated my mirror setup was different. I had to undo the mirror power and feed it back up onto the headliner to hook inline. I just followed the path. Just took longer.

@@Kaizer_911 how hard was it to feed the excess harness back into the headliner?
@Kaizer_9112 жыл бұрын
@@FiveStarDegenerate Once I figured out how it went it was super easy to feed back through.

This video would have u believe this is a 5 minute install...and it is until you get trying to tuck the wiring back in place and snap those covers on...pita!!! You'll want to throw it as far as you can! Mine in barely hanging there and I know the first bump I hit it's coming off. Why can't they simply say-good luck on getting the wires up in there and snapping the covers back on, it's a royal pain..hahaha. Suckwads!!
@1EVILZ06 Жыл бұрын
Did you use zip ties? Small zip ties will allow you to zip the wires together nice and tight.

$100!! Haha I will just tap into the wire myself and save prob 80-90 bucks.
