I worked on a Q5 with the same engine... no cam sensors on the exhaust cams. Rough idle and smooth running above 1000... misfires were not set at idle. I ended up finding that the exhaust cam was off when the engine was set to TDC (cam lock would not fit). That was a fun timing chain job! Thank you for explaining the size difference in the cam waveforms! It never occured to me that speed of rotation / chain slack played a role.

My impression is that you have to be extremely smart to diagnose the modern car the first time and get it correct without swapping parts until you finally solve the problem as some shops do.This is why many people don't trust mechanics. When you speak Bernie, you sound like a genuis - far beyond anyone else I hear on you tube including scanner danner.

I was an Audi tech for 5 years from 2011 to 2016 I was on the floor when these cars came out and my gosh did we have issues we were getting in s4’s and s5’s with nomore than 40k miles with these cam crank correlation codes at first we scoped and used our specialty audi tools then it got to the point where we automatically did timing chains and vvt solenoids automatically without checking the codes any further just like the problems with the oil rings on the 2.0’s we didn’t chance it we just changed everything we got so good we started to flat rate chains in under 8/hs made a lot of mo way but didn’t last

Hi, how are you? Congratulations on the channel. I am very grateful that they share their knowledge with us. Although I do not speak or understand English, I do my best to understand and watch the videos. I understand the great effort and sacrifice they make, for sharing their knowledge in each video and how good the diagnostic tools that your company do. But they are overlooking or ignoring something To the people who speak SPANISH. REMEMBER that SPANISH is the second MOST SPOKEN LANGUAGE IN THE WORLD. And many countries speak Spanish. If you will take us into account, subtitling the videos. There will be a vengeance for both of them. YOUR company would sell more products and the people who speak Spanish know us more about their products. There are other diagnostic companies that are already taking Spanish into account as SNAPON is. Due to the great competition that exists today in the world of diagnosis. IF YOU CONSIDER OTHER BORDERS YOU WILL HAVE MORE SALES. YOUR EQUIPMENT IS VERY GOOD AND AT LOWER PRICES THAN THE COMPETITION AND THAT IS GOOD FOR THE BUYER. They just need to expand their Vision.

@@charlesbarkwell7693 Hi friend. Thank you very much for your comment or answer. But to write in English I use the Google translator. I make an effort to communicate in another language. Although sometimes the translator does not do the translation well.
@Thunderroad85173 жыл бұрын
@@PedroGonzalez-yr6xd Hey Pedro. You are right about the language barrier in this industry. The cars of today are really complicated. This is another way that the industry is forcing people out. If ATS were to make it bilingual it would be easier for you and more possibilities of higher sales market. I don’t know if this will work but it might be worth a try for now. There is a device that translates into any language. The website is buyenence.com I just seen this and wanted to try to help if it does. Have a good day.

Bernie, how are you test driving and viewing scope data? Do you just have the leads ran into the cabin? I would love to be able to do that but my leads are way to short, and I would also be worried about them getting tangled up in the engine.
@charlesbarkwell76934 жыл бұрын
The Leads are long. Go to the Big Dogs Neighborhood in Albuquerque , New Mexico and see for yourself : www.automotivetestsolutions.com Even the da_ _ LapTop Scan Tool can test Catalytic Converters with displayed photo results by just driving down the street.

Bernie, the company does not want cam timing in milliseconds to be flagged by the PCM as they would have more timing chain jobs under warrantee. I am sure the engineers figured this all out as PCM's became better and more accurate, dont you think so.
@benagardi3 жыл бұрын
The cam timing correlation is flagged in ms that's not what he said, what he did say is they didn't try to adjust it in ms( as in add phasing to try to get it correct to the ms)
@TwentytenS4B83 жыл бұрын
I have the same engine. I just had all the chains and guides replaced. Guess what? That correlation code is still there. So in my experience, once this code sets you will never get rid of it.

God sakes man! You always say go where the data leads you. You had an indication showing a failing timing chain. You could destroy a motor (total a car!) if it fails while you do further tests. That car should have been locked out, not allowed to be run until its chains are replaced. You can't continue to test at the peril of imminent engine destruction. At least boroscope the engine to confirm. something.... P.S. I love your videos though.
