Nice one Bernie. No surprise a Chrysler with a failed PCM, but the video proves how important a strategy is when diagnosing. Most shops will have thrown coils and plugs at it.
@HETPEZB4 жыл бұрын
No need to throw the coils and plugs. Simply swap good known ones with assumingly "bad" ones and see if the problem will follow or not.

Great suff.. this scope is great , it has its own sensor simulator and the coil tester which supplies pulses to the ignition coil to fire the coil.How amazing is that. I own this scope the 4 channel and i use it everyday..Thanks Bernie

Great information- Have you ever run across the "Vibration" issue with the HD series Ram? Rear end shake usually 55- 70 mph depending on the truck?

Beautiful diagnostics, Bernie! Wow how could 3 coil drivers blow simultaneously? Probably a control chip issue for those drivers. Shame that a computer only lasted 6 years...
@ablackformula4 жыл бұрын
Are two-wire coils typical to Chrysler? I thought it was more common to see 3 wire coils, where the pcm driver wouldn't be doing all that hard work, so to speak.
@Arphand4 жыл бұрын
Chrysler still uses 2 wire coils on most stuff. Most everyone else uses 3/4 wire coils.

4425a standard kit.
@tonyfremont4 жыл бұрын
The pico 4425a is a really good scope, but the escope used in this video is in a league of its own. It's 8 channels vs 4, so try not to choke when you see the price. Still, it's a real automotive diagnostic tool that goes way beyond a pico. Everything done in this video (aside from reading the DTCs) can be done with a much cheaper scope, but only at a small fraction of the efficiency.
@scientist1004 жыл бұрын
@@tonyfremont I notice that this Technician tends to use more than 4 channels to get you to buy the 8 channel but is not necessary. What you see is that more than 4 channels tend to get on the way. Unless you have a special case where you need more than 4 channels, then I would just pull the cheap Hantek but it is really not necessary, I like the option to ground things that he does but you can also mimic that with a tap to the ground with a fused wire to a back probed pin to see the reaction of the injector or coil.
@tonyfremont4 жыл бұрын
@@scientist100 yeah, the pulldown output and TTL generator seem a bit fluffy, but they do increase efficiency. The "red light" as he calls it is more fluff, but it is unique and does let you know that a prove is connected to something. I think that is done with a really weak pulldown to a negative voltage (below ground potential). If you know how to use a scope, any scope will do. Otoh, escope and pico take the approach that mechanic is not an engineer or mathematician and needs extra help when setting time bases and voltage scales, or converting the voltage output of current clamps to actual amps. The escope does a lot of other things too, making it a full diagnostic tool for automotive use. It's too bad that you're forced into buying the most expensive windows tablet on the planet to use it. I'd much rather they'd written their software for android or even generic Linux. Tablets are easy to break and replacing a Microsoft surface isn't cheap.
@vickenkaragozian20414 жыл бұрын
I have the Elite4 , 4 channel scope.. You don't need the 8 channel. Its different than the Pico scope but has great features like TTL which puts 5 volts on and off signal to pulse the igntion coil transistor or to find if a wire from ecm is shorted to ground or if the ecm is grounded or loaded internally. Plus it can handle maximum 500 volts like if you were checking ignition primary voltage or injectors.. Primary voltage can easily go over 300 volts..

I like it....but.... you didn't check if cam and crank are ALWAYS in correct time, while it was misbehaving. A loose reluctor wheel or faulty sensor can give you that behavior also.

Using your logic, since my Ram hasn’t had these problems, my Ram is as good or better than Toyota then.
