Glad someone else here is over the age of 'too young to realize the world doesn't spin just for them'. This was a very SMART move to have the review done by this man. The target demographic is who is looking forward to this car the most, not the minimum wage top youtube commenter. After they've done what they need to actually sell the car, then you can see all the noise for those who want to see the car, but can't afford it yet. Told a lot more than how much smoke/noise it makes. Bravo Kei

Rev matching works for both upshifting and downshifting. By waiting for the rpms to drop to the right point before engaging the clutch allows for less drivetrain shock. Also, if you've ever driven a semi truck or old car w/ a syncro-less transmission, you HAVE to rev match upshifts or you'll grind.

I see people are getting heated about this review but for me it was really a fine Review - all the more energetic ones are gonna come no doubt at all and no worry. He covered 3 modes, he was around the steering and it´s feel, the ride, the engine, the sound, the price. The new Vette has more abilities and makes it a little more complicated, but still it seams to have all the grunt and bark of an american V8. The sound in this review was really good and honest. Fine drive by footage too etc.
@cbrudnick10 жыл бұрын
LOVE that exhaust sound. Sexy. Solid. This is a real car with the absolute best mechanics, not a showy yuppie toy. My husband just bought a Stingray in crimson red -- gorgeous but more subtle, sophisticated color for a middle-aged guy. I've told him it's not a mid-life crisis vehicle, but rather a Celebration of Life trophy. He deserves it!

He did sell sports mode in a sports car, he just made sure to do it after talking about eco mode. Up selling. Not trying to be a trouble starter, I just understand the Corvette has a broad market. Old and young, hence why the vehicle has edge of your seat performance, AND economical / fuel economy benefits as well. They did the research, and engineering. Marketing and mechanics. They have a better idea of what to make in a good corvette than we do, based on the factors they saw in their market.

A new Stingray starts at $52,000. A "loaded" model would likely include the Z51 Performance package ($2,800), exposed-carbon-fiber roof panel ($1,995), Magnetic Ride Control with Performance Traction Management ($1,795), dual-mode exhaust system ($1,195), carbon fiber interior trim ($995), sueded, microfiber-wrapped upper interior trim ($995) and the 2LT option package ($4,210). That totals to slightly less than $66,000. A new 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 Coupe costs a little over $130,400.
@Alexn106711 жыл бұрын
there are two points of latest technology that make this a quality super car at a mid level sports car price tag. 1) Spot Aluminum welding.....= strong sturdy and light frame 2) Laser vision inspection (manufacturing process) = extreme manufacturing precision that tops hand made cars of the past. My dad was one of the main dudes behind the software of the laser vision technology....in years to come you'll see this on your every day common cars.

No less American muscle, just refined and tunable to the drivers current desire ... drove one for several days, technology on the car is superb. Very smooth ride. Find a empty stretch of road and put it in track mode, throw all the throttle at it and it's a beast, no question. Period.

So much hate for Don here. I have met the man and he is very knowledgeable and knows his stuff and has been around for a very long time. Show some respect. This was a ROAD test so he tested it for the ROAD. This was not a TRACK test, so he didn't put it through typical TRACK paces. I am sure when the car is in full production and they get it for longer, they can do a proper TRACK test on it. Until then, lets take it down a notch.

While I can't say this is the best reviewer/review to appeal to me, a guy in his 20s, I don't think that's what Car and Driver's youtube channel is going for. Plenty of older guys love cars just as much or more than I do, and they would probably relate to this guy much better than your average young internetter will. And, as others have mentioned, there is definitely a market for older guys buying a Corvette; they're going to identify with this video.

I was referring to inside the cabin, the indicator stalks, steering, foot and gear paddles, door handles, center console, air conditioning vents and all the knobs are magnesium. Also, "Overall 65% of the vehicle's total body mass is CFRP material while the remaining 35% is aluminum."

C&D, are the gear ratios you mention correct? Is it actually a 5 speed (190mph top in 5th) with TWO ultra tall fuel save gears (6 and 7)? If so I don't get that, why didn't they do a closer 6 speed, top speed in 6th, and eco tall gear only in 7th? :S
@fusionchickenleg11 жыл бұрын
wow some of you are harsh (surprise, not) i for one am glad that C&D took a slightly different approach to review the C7. as a Vette owner who daily drives his Vette it's just as important to know how the C7 will behave on a daily basis vs. how it will perform when driven in anger, the latter of which is more of MT's approach.

What a great car! With four exhaust pipes, 460bhp, nice interior and exteriour, for just over 50.000$. That got to be the bargain of the century!!!
@SinisterMD11 жыл бұрын
You obviously missed my point. GM used a specific TC button on the C5 Corvette and it was a nice added touch and showed some attention to detail. Things like that make the flagship of the brand stand out. They would only have to keep them at Bowling Green anyway. Making a different "check engine" light icon would be a welcome touch. The dash has to be made different for every vehicle anyway. Minimal cost but money well spent in my opinion.
@brucec426811 жыл бұрын
As a Porsche and Ferrari fan, The C7 is seems to be getting it right. The Corvette V8 is a near bulletproof design and no Porsche IMS failure to worry about. By the way, 6:42 reminds me of the Bullitt Charger driver shifting gears. For the money, what a deal of a sports-super car. Maybe Jeremy Clarkson will approve.
@C4Lust11 жыл бұрын
Cylinder Deactivation allowed by the Eco mode is one of the newer and more advanced features of the C7. The rest is pretty standard Corvette stuff. He was merely checking out the NEW car by checking out the NEW stuff.
@OneOfaKind94911 жыл бұрын
I think it was a sign of respect to the old man... he put in his time and now they let him drive a pre production corvette... plus I am sure he appeals more to the average age demographic of the corvette driver, which is 50 plus.

@khyoon1411 жыл бұрын
Technically yes, you can rev match while upshifting as well. But the term used in this scenario depicts when one blips the throttle while downshifting to a lower gear. I understand it can go both ways, but in relevancy to the video it irrelevant. I know about drivetrain shock and synchro-less transmissions as well. That's where double clutching came from. In technical you are correct it can be used both ways (up/down shifting).

If I'm not mistaken, those paddles aren't shifters. The paddle on the right toggles auto rev matching on&off. But I heard that most enthusiasts will leave that off because it's not as quick as if you heel/toed the down shifts yourself.

I agree with nanbrigdan's comments . This commentator is as dry as a martini gets with no buzz what so ever. The new corvette definitely seems impressive and finally has an exhaust note to raise awareness and announce its presence. The styling reminds me of the Ferrari Italia and I like how they designed the flat portions of the top side body panels on the rear quarter to improve down force and to provide cooling for the rear brakes. The technology package also sounds like a winner.
@rickjohnson711611 жыл бұрын
If your first impulse when you get into the first new Corvette design in nine years, is to pop it into Eco Mode and drive it like a Prius, you've got issues, and you certainly shouldn't be doing Car & Drivers first review of the most anticipated sports car to come out of Detroit in years. Come on C&D, get it together! I've been looking forward to this car, and my first viewing of an actual road test is as exciting as watching paint dry.
