From its huge imposing blade to its handsome rosewood handle, every inch of the Cold Steel Frontier Bowie screams perfection!
Almost sword-like in its cutting and thrusting performance, the Frontier Bowie features a wide, wickedly keen hand-sharpened blade with a generous clip and huge fuller (blood groove). Made from 1055 Carbon Steel, it has been heat treated to a hard spring temper and beautifully blued to a lustrous finish. Its blade is both long and stiff enough to oppose even much larger weapons, while wide and sharp enough to make the most of every opportunity to cut, thrust and deliver a "palpable hit".
The Frontier Bowies handle is a perfect accompaniment to its battle-ready blade. It's big "S" shaped guard offers excellent hand protection while the slim, flat profile stops it from twisting in your hand and keeps your edge alignment true even in the heat of combat. It's modified pistol grip also keeps the knife locked safely in your hand even when utilizing a palm reinforced grip for extended reach and leverage in the thrust.
A high quality leather sheath with a blued steel throat and chape is included. It's swiveling leather belt frog is wide enough to accommodate even a thick military belt and fully detachable to allow you to slide the knife into your belt for traditional carry.
This versatile knife is suitable for historical re-enactment groups from the 1830's onwards, Cowboy Action Shooters, civil war re-enactors and even modern Military groups. This truly battle ready blade is ready for any adventure, so whatever your Frontier, make sure that you have a Cold Steel Frontier Bowie by your side!

I bought one just today, a beautiful monster of a knife, I wish it was double edged like some of the older Cold Steels but apart from that no complaints.

Lots of "experts" out there haha. The old "blood groove" BS is one of the fastest ways to tell if someone has a clue what they are talking about or not, so I guess it can be a good thing...

Ive got one. The review is good- but mine is the later 1085 high carbon steel. Dynamite blade and a full tang. The clip and back-edge can be sharpened but do it carefully so as not to gouge up the BEEEUUUtiful bluing! Thick and solid. KUDOS to the reviewer.

Nice looking blade but it is NOT high carbon. 1055 is hypoeutectoid. It is a simple medium carbon steel. It should be fairly tough in use and easy to sharpen but with no significant alloying it has low wear resistance and low stain resistance. With a spring temper it is basically a sharpened spring. That's not a bad thing necessarily. But If viewers are indeed looking for a high carbon steel, this is not it.

Good review and from somebody who at last doesn't mangle the name Bowie .I cant count how many times I shout at the screen that's its not bloody mispronounced "BOOOEEE" it is correctly enunciated as" BOW-E" as he says in the vid , at least by normal speakers any way with a passable command of the English/American language .Well done Sir as I am sure the musician David Bowie appreciates as well .

Jim Bowie was a hero at the Alamo. It was, in fact, his brother Rezin, from Louisiana, who made the knives that made Jim famous. I am a 6th generation Texan, my great great great grandfather fought in the Texas revolution and was an important politician in the Republic of Texas. Jim Bowie's last name is properly pronounced "Boo-ee," not "Bow-ee". That British chap goes by "Bow-ee," but he doesn't have anything to do with knives or the Alamo.

I love this knife, just ordered it from you guys! Wonder what exactly the Rockwell is on this blade? They say "spring temper" and that could be anywhere from 44 Rc to maybe 52, depending what they consider "spring temper". I would hope it's at least around 48 Rc, because 44 seems pretty soft. Then again, it's probably no more than a normal machete would be hardened to, and they hold an edge enough for their job. Wish this one had a sharpened back clip-that is one thing that annoys me about the Natchez, they call it the quintessential fighting bowie yet it doesn't have a sharpened back clip! The one perhaps most important aspect of a true fighting bowie! Oh, well, guess that can be fixed. Love you guys' price on this knife, you really give a good deal. Thanks.

Are there options available (at least upon upon request) for composite handles i.e. Micarta and the like... I'm in the water A LOT and need a handle more durable and longer lasting than wood. Name the price and if its not too crazy you've got a buyer! Cold Steel Rocks!!!

All Bowie knives should come with the clip sharpened. My wife will throw a Bowie knife, Old Zippo, microtech double edged otf & a suppressed 22lr in my casket on the way down. And no I won't tell you where my plot is at!!! Hahahah!! This looks like a great bowie for a $100.
@usinoz
@usinoz 6 жыл бұрын
The clip is not supposed to be sharpened. It's kept dull so it doesn't catch on ribs when used for its intended purpose. It pushes the ribs aside allowing for more blade penetration.
