Why fix what's not broken? They are excellent engines, put down great power, are relativley cheap and easy to work on. What more do you want?

Just because the design is nifty it doesn't excuse sticking with push rod design for ever.

dohc is great but adds a lot of weight and more moving parts that can break. Chevrolet offers motors with dohc but the V8s have always been ohv and why change it if they get great gas mileage and a lot of hp? this engine is putting out 450 hp and will get close to 30 mpg. don't knock it till you've tried it.

@@JosefTrull Haha! I sudddenly got interested in C7 Corvettes. And by association these engines. There are a few very nice European GT cars available used in UK BUT the engines are so complex it makes ownership such a gamble.

Going from your comments, I highly doubt you've had any Corvettes. If you have, you must've bought used, and heavily abused cars. I've never heard of any blowing smoke at 30k. I have 110k on my GTO, still doesn't burn a bit of oil. And my Firebird has 145k on it, and the only oil it loses is from a small leak on the lower intake plenum. And the fact that the current Corvettes have posted some of the highest lateral G's of any mass production cars built, they're not just for straight lines.

Plus, I've never had any experience with an Asian, or any other import vehicle for that matter, that would lead me to believe that they're more 'solid'. I've had to fix many small issues with imports that I've never had to deal with on an domestic vehicle I've worked on. And when I do need to work on a domestic, it's generally less expensive to repair. I don't hate imports, but there isn't anything about them that makes me want to own one.

smart engineering, why have a engine with 4 cams, 2, 3, or 4 timing chains and tensioners to wear out, plus the engine isnt 4ft wide making service difficult. yea a 32valve 5.0 liter engine will make similar power, but simply making a larger displacement engine with just 1 cam and many less parts seems more reliable and i would think be cheaper to build

Yep...most of the idiots don't get it that a 5.0 DOHC is physically bigger that the Chevy 6.2 and has a hell of a lot more moving parts. The 5.0 is a good engine but the latest tech. does not always mean the best.

There's already an LT1, is it that hard to make up a new engine code name? LR1? LZ1. TL1, you see what I'm getting at? Now when you say LT1 people will say oh do you mean the LT1 or the LT-1?

Realy Chevrole? in 2013 you still build engines with one cam and 2 valves/cylinder on a "high performance" engine? this video shows the same engine setup since 1965 only with added injection and electronics.
@matrox
@matrox 6 жыл бұрын
Yeh...its why Ford is thinking of going back to a Pushrod in the Mustang. The 5.0 is physically bigger than Chevys 6.2. The 5.0 is top heavy with a higher center of gravity. The DOHC eng will rev higher but will not make low down torque like the Pushrod. Unless you are racing Indy what the hell good is a high revving engine for? Sounds like you are caught up the Fake News.

4 Valves a cylinder wouldn't be very muscle car ish, plus their probably wouldn't be a big mpg jump since this engine is supposed to make 24mpg already. Don't see the problem. But corvette better be offered with a twin clutch paddle shift gearbox or it wont be very competitive.

Rock solid. I guess you don't know about them blowing smoke at 30,000 and rattling.. Plus interior breaking. Asian cars are more solid. I had 3 Vetts. The older ones were real cars. Why spend that kind of money on a Chevy. Little more you can get a GTR. That car will walk all over a Vette on the track. My Evo will kick its ass on the track. Not talking 1/4 mi.All that Vett will do is go in a straight line.
@matrox
@matrox 6 жыл бұрын
Well guess you have a little bit of brain to at least know that the Vette offers the best performance of any car in the world $ for $.

What's obsolete about it? It's a quite potent, efficient little motor that can pretty much fit in the same space as a typical DOHC 4 cylinder, while making alot more power and getting nearly as good, and in some cases better, mpg. What's not to love?

LOL....whats really funny is all the Jr. eng. trying to tell GM what works and what does't. If you drive a new Camaro or Vette with a 6.2 you will know that ....hell yeh...it works!

More generic stuff from GM. This is what makes them a Joke. No new technology in the engine itself. They cant even come up with an original name for the engine. There already was an LT1!
@3rdGenGuy
@3rdGenGuy 11 жыл бұрын
GM engineers brought back the LT1 name because of it's iconic past. Studies showed 90% of new Corvette owners have never heard of LT1 and have no idea of its past. Lt1 was a great v8 and continues to be true today. "generic stuff"? THE C7 IS THE MOST FUEL EFFICIENT CAR IN IT'S CLASS!

GM HAS ALWAYS BEEN A JOKE. FROM TOP TO BOTTOM THE LS IS ALL FORD (A GENERIC FORD). FROM THE FIRING ORDER TO THE HEAD DESIGN TO THE BLOCK DESIGN IT IS ALL FORD, NOTHING REMAINS OF THE OLD SMALL BLOCK CHEVY.

m1l3s1 lightly modded LS1s still beat new 5.0l It's funny lol. How a 6.2L is still 36lbs lighter than the 5.0 and the LT1 gets better mpg.
