I'm not really a Chevy guy, but this is pretty sweet. I'd be curious to know what kind of CFM we're looking at on the heads, and how that compares to the 392 Hemis. The general consensus I've heard is that Hemis tend to have big head flow and the LS have invincible bottom-ends, relatively speaking. I wonder how true that is, and how that might change with the LT1.

That's engineering without cost effectiveness. They could make an LT1 with light, expensive, forged alloys, but it would have to cost a lot more. This is a $53k starting price car meant for all to have.

Wow, hard to understand the hate that people are projecting on this thing. The 1LR-GUE that is being touted down below is a Yamaha-Toyota co-developed engine that comes in a $350,000 base price car. It makes less torque at 6,800 RPM than the Gen V LT1 makes at 1,500 RPM and revs to 9,500 in order to make it's power which caused a need for unnecessarily expensive materials in the construction of the engine. You're comparing a car that the everyday man will not have the chance to drive, let alone buy in his natural lifetime to a car that is readily available for the middle class man. Then the people projecting lots of hate that a 455 pre-emissions standards by the government could produce the same torque numbers years ago. There are rules, and regulations put on car manufacturers by the government which makes it necessary to incorporate things in order to not only meet said emissions laws but by some feat of engineering meet horsepower expectations from people who want more horsepower than they can apply to the road themselves, street or track. If you could do it better why don't you? If you can make a RELIABLE engine make more horsepower and meet emissions standards then you need to quit your day job(if you even have one) and go get paid to engineer new engines for your choice of manufacturer.

The new LT1 is no joke. My daughter has a 2016 Camaro ss with aftermarket cam, headers and tune and has been dynoed at 510 hp and 510 torque at the wheels. She is running a 11.0 quarter mile at 125 mph. Now she wants forced induction. My LS2 with the same power adders is putting out 100 hp less to the wheels.

the problem with direct injection is the amount of carbon it builds up on the intake valve, i dont like this fact
@slightly85
@slightly85 8 жыл бұрын
Do you happen to know where the carbon would be coming from? Since the DI engines are more emissions friendly than those engines of yesteryear, there is no need for an EGR valve anymore, therefore you don't have the same carbon coming into your intake like on previous engine designs, the only real issue is PCV, but that is minor.

Interesting although the vid is 2 years old now. I wonder if they went forward with it. One thing that always makes me worry with a new engine design, however, is what's the first thing that's going to need to be re-enginnered. There's an awful lot of solenoid, pumps, etc in this motor which makes it pretty much disposable and repairs expensive. I always feel better when the inside of the motor is kept simple.

+El Camino Guy Agree.. Looks to me like they are leaving the sphere of good judgement in favor of going over-techno while making rebuilding this engine not economically possible. Dead engine in 8 years and too expensive to rebuild. VVT isn't all that, never was.. people get all wrapped up in technocrap because some engineer tells a great story and forgets the benefit bottom line.

I’ll take my ‘05 Silverado with its very simple 5.3 LS engine. The later LS and LT engines have become WAAAAAY to complex with variable valve timing and displacement on demand. Mine has well over 300,000 miles with the only thing ever needing replaced is the water pump which I was able to do myself for around $100 and less than an hour. I’ve heard way too many horror stories with collapsed lifters and engine ticking. A cam in block engine is supposed to be simple, not complex like this. The 1999-2006 were the best engines ever made. I suppose you can’t expect a good thing to last forever

That sounds good on paper, but look at all the specs. You have to turn 8250 rpms to get that HP (longevity?) and it only makes 339 ft lbs of torque. At 6000 rpms! Fun on the track. Nothing great for a street motor. MPG isn't impressive either. 17 combined. Also stop looking at engine size vs hp. Power to engine weight is the better metric. Just noticed your profile picture is of a Corvette/LT1. LOL.
