55% of my time was dealing with that stupid screw piston. 20% dealing with those cheap ill-designed lug nuts (tore them apart and bought solid aftermarkets). 10% dealing with my jack leaking fluid. The rest was actual work and all went smoothly. I told the wife never buy another Ford. Your video was helpful, thank you.

mind linking me to where you got the new lug nuts? i'd like to take the old ones with the caps and throw them at employees of my local dealership

Where did you get the bit to turn the screw piston??

I’m a Ford guy and those screw in pistons is the dumbest idea Ford could have chosen.🤬
@MysticSpank4 жыл бұрын
doing this soon on my wifes escape. I go 10+ years between newer vehicles, and methods change. This is for sure the case. I would have been mad about the allen bolts since my set are T handles and would not fit in that area, and i have only heard rumors about screw in pistons. Thanks for taking the time to post this, and know that in 2020 you are still helping.

Thanks i have done a lot of brakes but I couldn't figure out how to compress the calipers until I saw your video. I wasted a lot of time with my c clamp! Good video
@AndrewCarrranza5 жыл бұрын
Lol same! After 10min trying to clamp, I went to good ol reliable KZbin #Thanks
@robbeam55995 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewCarrranza one more thing. The pads were pretty worn and like you I had a hard time getting them to start threading. I used a pair of needle-nose pliers. I pushed as hard as I could and they still wouldn't catch. I got frustrated and tried putting the emergency brake on and for whatever reason it was way easier to get the brakes to start screwing in . After that I release the brakes screwed the calipers in all the way reinstalled then pulled the emergency brake lever two or three times to set the brakes and they work just fine

beams great advice! Had the exact same problem and the e-brake method worked, thanks!

Same here. I actually had to buy a replacement piston and rebuild one side. I also had to buy a special adjusting attachment to fit the pin holes as the spacing seemed odd for the kit I rented from my local auto parts store. Once I watched this video everything got easier.

Great job, was curious as to if it was a twist-in piston inside the caliper prior to disassembly, glad I found this video.

Great video, I was confused about retracting the pistons. Purchased the special tool needed. Thanks.
@tonybauerla42482 жыл бұрын
This was a great tutorial, so I’m a skinny fella… when trying to get the piston to retract, use a c clamp the old school way… moderate to heavy pressure, for 10-30 seconds…. Then try the tool… Makes it a little easier if you don’t have the arm strength… worked for me both times…

Us back yard guys don't have the vacuum tool so I guess wee have to do the old fashion, get someone to pump up brakes, bust screw loose while someone holds brake pedal to floor, then tighten and repeat till no more air just straight fluid? Also if no air is in line just changing everything shouldn't get air in there should it?Thanks! Other videos I watch had special tool to push cylinder back in but never explained that it had to be turned! Most my cars I just used a big C clamp to push cylinder back in! Glad I watched yours or I would of never known about the parking break,the 2 holes that had be turned! Thanks again!

Well done work. Only a little tip buy a special wrench to twist the caliper piston. It is simple to twist it insufficiently, still it is necessary to press.

Great video. Really helped me make the job much easier. Not a fan of these screw in brake caliper pistons.

Make absolutely sure that you are using a brake caliper piston wind back tool! I borrowed a kit from autozone for free ($60 refundable deposit) and it works soooo much better than pushing/turning with the tool he's using. That may work on other makes and models but definitely not a 14 escape! I will make a video for the other wheel. Save yourself the aggravation and use the appropriate tools.
@tylerhair90673 жыл бұрын
I just did this job. You are right. I used the tool he has here on my ‘14 Escape. It worked, but it was a royal PITA!! Good lord, each side took me 10-15 mins to get back in. Ridiculous design!!!
@stinman463 жыл бұрын
I went and got the loaner from Autozone, $60 but you get it back or they said you could keep it but I'm taking it back! My piston was out so far that I couldn't get it to go back in! I watched a different video first and read on a ford forum that you turned counterclockwise! Anyway I got air in my lines! I have changed many rotors and pads in cars from 2009 on down. This was the first time I couldn't use just a C clamp! I need to find that vacuum he had! Not sure if one can do it like old days? Pump up and hold brake pedal while someone else cracks the bleeder screw, and the brake pumper shoves pedal to flood. Then repeat 5 or so times till it's straight fluid and no air. Can it be done like this if I had too?

I’m generally a Ford guy as I usually have Ford trucks. I just did the rear brakes on my daughters 2015 Ford Escape. What in the hell was Ford thinking when they re-designed the piston part of the caliper? It’s been the standard for years of squeezing the piston to get it to retract. This BS with a special tool and all makes me want to buy a Chevy.

Do I have to flush the brake fluid? I don't have the necessary tool to do this. Can I get away with rotor and pad replacement without it. Or perhaps have a shop do that for me after the parts have been replaced?
@genocideoffsprng5 жыл бұрын
I have and haven't I guess it all depends on how much time you have. if you have time why not?
@jeff74615 жыл бұрын
Flushing it is rather easy. It’s worth it to keep the brake system clean of internal corrosion by flushing the fluid every so often.
