Mine wouldn't shut off today for the first time ever. Shut truck off, pulled keys and it kept both fans running. Pulled both fuses, number 12 and 13. That made the fans stop but I put them back in and my fans started again. Truck was cool. Unhooked battery for roughly 30 minutes. Hooked battery up again and it works as should. Thanks for the video if it does this again I may have to swap some parts.

Thank you. It was my thermostat after all. And now my gauge is back to reading normal and the A/C is back to working again. Feeling the difference of the heat in the top and bottom radiator hoses (coming out of the water pump) was what made me come to the conclusion it had to be the thermostat.

@@masdbo because it's a failsafe in the computer. Engine temp not rising could mean a bad temp sensor, so the computer can't determine the actual Engine temp (which could actually be really hot) so the fans turn on at 100% as a failsafe.

@karirangel64094 жыл бұрын
If you go to an Autoparts like Oriellis Autozone or Napa they can help you see what codes you have The code p0128 is the one that makes the fan stay on This would be because the thermostat is open or opens too soon making the coolant not cross 165 degrees of temperature If you find this code, replace the thermostat. OR You can disconnect the battery for 15 minutes and then hold the brake pedal for one minute This will erase the memory of the car’s computer and you’ll see the fan not on anymore until the computer picks up the code again If the fan is not on after you reconnect the battery, replace that thermostat I’m assuming that your fan is on and the check engine light is on also.

Hi, it sounds like you live in a climate where the mornings could be cold, if your coolant is just above 165 degrees after one minute of star up When you have a colder morning, that number may drop under 165 with the help of a bit colder morning The computer wants to see 165 or more (200 average) to call it good and allow systems to operate normal It does sound like you’d thermostat is no good If you want, or can, have the codes read at your local auto parts (it’s free) and tell me what codes you have A code reader is cheap, I think every person with a car should own one. This happened to me today, and when I cleared the code, the problem went away. I don’t understand how the thermostat has anything to do with this. The thermostat is simply a mechanical piece that regulates flow based on temperature. Although if it were stuck open or closed, your temperature would be off spec, but it can’t possibly send a signal to the ecu. So my question remains, what caused the code to appear in the first place, and why does clearing the code fix the problem? My situation was remedied by simply clearing the code
@karirangel64093 жыл бұрын
Hi, The coolant temperature needs to go over 165 degrees with in an “x” amount of time (Varies from car to car) If the thermostat is faulty, not doing it’s job to regulate temperature and reach over that 165 degrees ( 200 degrees average) then the computer will store a code for the temperature not crossing 165, and thats what triggers the fan to came on Why does it come on? You would have to really ask the engineers that made the system, because this was not happening before in other vehicles This is a new symptom in car diagnostics There’s a chance that the code will store again in your truck and the fan will stay on again Good luck

It probably wasn't the thermostat. It was you clearing the codes. Ive fixed this problem several times on GMC and Chevy trucks. What happens is somebody replaces the pass side headlight and unplugs the MAF sensor to remove the air box and gain access. This can and usually does throw a code and create this condition. Especially if they leave the clamp loose on accident. A simple check and code clear will resolve the problem.

Hi, Omar is right, so, if you don’t have a scanner to erase the codes, disconnect the negative of the battery and then go to and press the brake pedal down for at about 30 seconds. Let go of the brake pedal and reconnect the negative and start the engine. If the check engine light is still on, then go to an auto parts and they will lend you a scanner or they can help you use it. So this so you don’t pay an auto repair shop to do so No you don’t have to drain the coolant, there will be a bit that spills out when you remove the thermostat. Have some coolant ready to top off. Another advice, after you are done with the job. Let the vehicle reach normal operating temperature, the. Let it cool down completely and recheck your coolant level. It may be low after it gets cool down
