Just found this issue on my 2014 civic daily driver. I've been having issues with acceleration and stalling. Something led me to the mass airflow intake sensor for cleaning. Found this and a lot of other videos on this exact issue. Thanks for showing me how to fix it!

I work at honda. This is a very common problem on 9th gen 1.8 Hondas. The clamps cost more than the tube itself. Just get some large pipe clamps from a hardware store .

I just saw the front rip. I checked the back and, yup another big rip on the back. Check engine light has never come one. As of I didn't need another project for this car 😩. Glad I came across this video & thank you for making this an easy process.

Thanks to your video I was successful in replacing the intake hose on my 2014 Honda Civic. By the way, 7/32 socket = 5.5 mm and I also did what you suggested by cleaning all parts including the throttle sensor. The engine is now quieter and idles better @ 250,000 km.

This video helped me a lot too. The bolt is actually a 5.5 mm. Why that size? Beats me!! To take out the air box, jiggle it a bit after removing the two 10 mm. Reach behind the air hose and push up the air box. It should lift out of the grommet. I cleaned the throttle while I’m at it. Might as well

@@rossursojr4527 no it would not. It will still start with the tear. It may not run great if it’s really bad because the air fuel mixture will be off but it would still start and run.

Ok well I've done everything starter battery alternator plugs coils, thermostat and temp sensor. But if my car sits overnight it hesitates to start in the morning. But I drive it shut off and starts right up

My sons had a miss around 3000 rpms, replaced plugs and it was still there. Checked this intake and it was cracked just like this one. Uninstall was easy, putting back together was a pain in the ass, new part came with clamps could get one side to work so I used the old clamp, I really just had trouble seating the air box back on that post and getting the air box side of the new hose attached.

The air in take hose rips because of the placement. When one wants to change out the air filter the lid on the air filter box pushes the hose and may cause it to stretch and tear :/

That ECU is in the stupidest spot, it’s a pain in the neck to disconnect all the wire retainers and stuff to get to the transmission. BTw thanks for the video. Unfortunately I cannot for the life of me find an OEM replacement tube for my 2015 Si Civic with this same issue. It has obviously been ripped for quite some time with no DTC until I removed it to get to my transmission mount that the dealership didn’t tighten causing my Mount to rip out a chunk of the transmission case. Smfh!!!

Exact same thing on my 2014. I mean exact! The tears were in the exact same spots. I didn't notice until I was going to clean the MAF sensor. And you're right about this design. Really crappy. SMH. Anyway, I wish I had found it sooner. I tried several other things before trying the MAF, which is how I found the cracks.

just did this on my boyfriends car, it was ripped in the back and front, we got an aftermarket for 10 bucks, but we had to mess and mod the clamps because it felt a little loose, the ends diameter wasnt as thick as the oem one, next time we'll get oem as it's only 16 dollars

the hose doesn't move during operation of the car, but when they replace the air filter, opening the box puts stress on the hose. I'd wager that's why the splits on these hoses is so common.

As an add to this, my lower motor mount was broken, causing excessive movement of the engine that also stresses this tube.

Did your brother inlaw experience a hesitation in the engine anywhere from 2500-3000 RPM under acceleration? My 9th gen has a weird hesitation right at 3000 rpm under acceleration, I've heard this could be the cause, thanks for the video upload!

@@BoltsNBoost after writing that comment, went out popped the hood and wouldn't you know it, two huge cracks! One near the air box was easy to spot, the other only after taking the hose off, because the crack was towards the firewall not easily seen otherwise. $25 dollar part at my local honda dealership, parts guy told me they always have them in stock because they change lots of them out. Engine is running smooth under acceleration throughout the RPM range and fuel mileage has increased from 7.5 L/100 kms to 6.8 L/100 kms

@@BoltsNBoost my girls friends car got this and it would occasionally throw a check engine code “lean condition detected” but I would watch the air fuel ratio while test driving and it was running perfectly fine. Her car would occasionally stall on light throttle and the car definitely felt sluggish. Still haven’t changed out the part but it’s running fine with just duct tape. Probably gonna change out the hose today

I have a 2015 lx 1.8 the first time this happened I didn't catch it and it was like this for a year. No check engine light. Again a few years later I noticed the stuttering in my car again and there it is...ripped again. I have never had a problem on any car like this and I've been wondering why out of all things did this rip twice. And I don't think living in Arizona would have anything to do with it because I could see that you live in a cold climate.

It's the tougher part... the hose that connects to the bottom portion of the airbox gets stuck from all the dirt and debris. We ended up having to yank on it hard after all the bolt were out.

Hey guys i have the same tear but not as big tho and i have check engine lights comes on randomly and disappear for hours !! The car hesitates when i try to speed up and when i reverse and switch to D mode the car shuts off !! Gas mileage got lower a bit i believe the cracked intake hose caused all that , will update after i fix the issue .

This rubber pipe is damaged during oil change service. They always suggest a free checking and open air filter case all the time and take out filter. In this process the pipe is seriously stressed. I love Walmart oil service because they do not touch filters.

i had the same problem.... with the error message check emission system... I did change the part it was ripped at 3 places but the error message wont turn off is there anything else i should do for that i trippled cheked and there is no air loss everything is perfecly installed and my car is running way better than it was because of the ripped part it sometimes was idont know how to say that but like burp buking or whatever when i was accelerating... dont have that problem anymore since i changed the part but the error message still on why? do i have to reset something with a car computer or sometin

I'd try disconnecting battery for 30min to restart the system. If that doesn't work.. check for leaks in the air system

@@pexors unplugging the battery for 10-30 mins will usually always reset all computer codes. If the code comes back up then you do have a problem elsewhere

Good question man. I'm not sure... we do not have diesel Civics here in Canada. But that being said, I would say the chances are good as auto companies use a lot of interchangeable parts...especially Honda. I would do some more research tho.
