So many lexus haters here. Check their sales. Lexus has been the number #1 luxury car brand for 11 consecutive years. The years that lexus wasn't the #1 was due to the Asian natural disasters. Check 2014 lexus sales, the numbers are staggering. Mercedes had a lead time of 4000 vehicles and lexus still beat them out in the first 2014 quarter by more 30% in sales.

If you had 90k you can spend it on whatever you like, but make sure you save a ton extra for maintenance fees if you were to get a porsche/merc/bmw/VW.

That lexus is wayyy overpriced, I agree. (I know somoene who wasn't happy that his wife got him one.) I would get a Landcruiser but that's overpriced also. An FJ would be just as capable and less than half the price, or perhaps a used vehicle. In 2013, I bought a used 2010 LS460 ($40k/50k miles) over a 2010 Audi A8L ($55k/45k miles). Value had dropped by 50% from retail after 3 years. My philosophy is buying a "good used" car at a good price over a new one any day. I do all the work on the cars anyhow.

My 03 Toyota sienna with all seasons tires took on the Loveland pass with similar conditions. One of the best /sketchy driving adventures.

I haven't been up to Loveland Pass in 20+ years, so it was cool to see the sign for it. My grandparents used to rent a condo in Frisco or Dillon for the summer and we'd go visit for a week or two and always drove up there. Growing up in Texas, that was the first place I ever made a snow ball. Next time on The Fast Lane Car, we take on the Loveland Gauntlet in the Ford Shelby GT500. Folks, this is real world testing, so we are testing this with the factory installed summer performance tires.

Not the Ford GT but I did that a few times in a 1988 Mazda RX-7 convertible with all season tires in similar condition up HWY 50 & 80 going to Lake Tahoe. The trick is don't be an idiot. Went sloooowly and steady. The irony is toughest part of the drive wasn't going up the highway but getting the car rolling from a dead stop Starbucks parking lot. Lol. Wheels would spin with all that snow. The REALLY cool unintended benefit was one got to learn how to manage a slight wiggle and not freak out. Lots of baby wiggles of the rear sliding out gave one confidence when a big one happened you knew what to do.

Rewatched this after watching the new one. Think I like the looks of this one better. Also it was nice to see a video with Roman being an actual mature adult. In this video he came across to me as more credible than he sometimes does now. I do however think the English speaking Andra is a good addition.

That is a serious test for any vehicle, not to mention testing the driver. Looking forward to the next entry for the Loveland Pass Gauntlet. PS When at great height the best advice I heard was don't look down, just look at where you want to go. Pretty much like on the track, look at where you want to go and you will likely get there, if you are looking at where you don't want to be, well let"s not think about that.

I took my 1990 Miata through there with tire chains and a skl rack that hung off the passenger window. I skied A basin and had to completely dig out every morning.

Great review...it's important to show the viewers the limits of a vehicle in stock form...case in point, all the wrecks during this past snow storm that swept the nation. AWD and snow tires...can't emphasize it enough.

I live in British Columbia and I've driven my Versa in conditions worse this with no problems. Good snow tires and some prudence behind the wheel can get you through almost anything. Entertaining review though.

Had an occasion to drive south on 395 from Reno NV to LA during the worst storm of March 2014...in my FWD Optima .... Never attempted to install the chains we were carrying...tires slipped only twice...and the road was covered (deeply) with snow...made the trip safely..but no pleasure. Could have used the 570!

One thing I hate about that road, is when Eisenhower tunnel closes, the only way around is the 6 (Loveland) which is stupid dangerous, especially with the Semi Trucks.

I just threw my Blizzacks on my svt focus and when my stock tires wear out on my Toyota FJ Cruiser they will be replaced by winter tires because even my aftermarket A/T's don't do as good on the snow and ice.

Land Cruiser/LX are very similar to Range Rover in terms of off road capabilities, but Range Rover's poor reliability is a major issue. You don't want to in the conditions similar in this video and then your transmission breaks.

***** exactly my point. quality control of range rovers suck. there electronics are just as reliable as a flat tire. a range rover cant make it 50k without major issues. this lexus will go 300k without any major issues. other then changing the bags on the suspension and maintenance

DABBIN TILL DEATH I completely agree but I have a 1999 Discovery II with the adaptive air suspension and I have had NO issues with it at all apart from regular maintenance. I use it for towing, off roading, and as a long distance trip car and it's got 120K. I hope it continues to last a long time

cheselz thats whats up.; i hope it doesnt give you any trouble. those models are infamous for there reliability. but since youve made it 120k wihtout major repairs youve got a winner. that model especially normally doesnt make it past 70k wihtout huge repairs

Awesome review. You're so right when you say tires matter in those conditions. I have always been a fan of that vehicle and the Toyota Land cruiser. Very reliable and off road capable. Test the Infiniti Q50 or the Hybrid version when you get the chance. I wanna know your take on that vehicle.

Cool video but you don't really need an SUV with diff lock to tackle Loveland pass. I have been to all the front range mountains this winter with my Bmw 428xDrive with all season tires. Never got stuck, not once...
