What kind of hot lap is that when you overdrive the corners like that? Too much wheel input causes the car to just plow man, horrible lap

the guy is way too aggressive and the understeer shows. too wide in some corners, just messy

Holy crap that's a lot of understeer. This AWD + supercharged version is pretty much total opposite of last gen E63 AMG. That old 6.2 naturally aspirated sounded like apocalypse and had much more entertaining ride dynamics. Of course this new one doesn't sound too bad, and is much much faster in real life, but i just loved old E63's idea of having nuclear bomb under hood and riding in the oversteer with sound of AMG madness ringing in your ears. Thankfully the depriciation has made it's work and the old E63 starts to look like fantastic 2nd car deal...

Matti Sillanpää The 2010 and 2011 6.2 liter cars are getting seriously cheap, and apparently handle extremely well. They're about the same price as a pristine E60 M5, but apparently handle better and are definitely faster. That sound is just amazing too. Very tempting to buy one of those.

I wish they were also here in Finland. You can import them from germany and the pre-tax price is 30-40k€ which is OK. However that's before you factor the _added_ 50-60k€ of taxes :/. So it basically cost _a lot_ more used here than it was new there in the States. All hail the co2 based taxation :(.

Over drove some of the corners causing it of understeer

What "causing it of understeer" is that most passenger cars are designed to understeer at the limits. And this car is no exception despite its AMG credentials. If this car didn't understeer on this test, that would mean it wasn't being driven at its limits.

DroverChicago AMG is a Mercedes nameplate, not used by Porsche.

DroverChicago The simple fact is, it's very heavy and is AWD. It understeers a lot more than an M5...much much more.

+Light Yagami If you look at his later turns, it seems like the understeer was dialed-in to match the racing line. A car like this there will always be understeer, he tempered his breaking well though. The driver did a great job, particularly on the latter half.

They removed the torque vectoring thing the non-AMG 4matic variants have to save weight.

Toby Fellas Yeah, it definitely helps it put the power down (RWD M5 is lighter and just as powerful but ~4 seconds slower because you have to be careful with it) but you can see the understeer...it's worse than some Audis. No body roll, and I've heard the steering feels good...but it's really annoying to see how much it pushes when you even go near the throttle. Other than that, it's an insanely great car. But would love if they either added torque vectoring front + rear to actually help it turn in or gave us the RWD option over here in the US. With RWD and ceramic brakes you'd cut 200 pounds.

In Australia where I live, the RWD variant is an available option and it is obviously lighter and the rest but I do not see why the 4wd is so appealing for Mercedes to make it as traditionally all amg cars in the past were RWD.

Is the tyre too cold? The car keep shaking through understeering. Also the M4 beats it I guess. With 425hp RWD. I do think the M5 competition pack would destroy E63AMG S's record

I seriously doubt that. The 2013 BMW M5 lighting lap is 3:05; can't easily make up 7 seconds.

Joshua Adams Mostly due to lack of grip, the AWD was a huge benefit. The M5 is lighter and more powerful than the E63, also has a better transmission, torque vectoring, and better weight distribution.

Evan McMiller Yes and the M5 also have a closer rear final drive than E63 for ultimate acceleration. The M5 also have a stability control that work similar as 458's side slip stability control. However, the M5 is RWD, it still got power over steering at exit. However, M5 is still faster than E63 on twisty tracks and fast tracks. The only place it may slower than E63 is tracks that require good traction and turn out acceleration.

It's much more understeer than Rs7. Even with this the best driver.

That's a shame actually, because the E63 has a 70% rear-biased AWD. The RS7 has torque-vectoring though which helps more

Two tips. Don't test cars like this on OEM street tires, and stop tilting and leaning your head, you aren't driving a motorcycle, very amateurish driving.

Two tips. The are testing factory cars, so they will be on factory tires. Also, don't tell people who can clearly drive quite well what to do.

Still the Fastest 4 door saloon they tested in this little series. Only 1 second Behind a Jag XKRS-GT Not bad if you ask me. The gap between merc and BMW in terms of handling has dropped in recent years. BMW are still better (well for 4 door cars no way it's keeping up with a SLS or AMG GTS but they're totally different so don't count) in the corners but AMG own the straights. Rivalry is super close. Although look at the RS7... 3.03 lol

+Joe Pinder I judge on the e63 based on what I see in the video.and i have see the bmw M3 which is 4 door aswell and its handling much better and easier ( no effort is made) while still grippy and on tracks that have more sharper corners than this one. In my opinion Mercedes is better in making luxury and comfortable cars. But in motorsport audi and bmw rule.

+Osama 1187 the M4 is slower than the E63 round this track so your point there is not correct. Also Audi don't win anything in motor sport. Mercedes are the dominant manufacture in motorsport F1, GT3 are some examples. Sure a lot is down to the driver especially in GT3. Audi just understeer a lot you can see in the video where they tested the RS7 round the track.

+Osama 1187 you said Motorsport I thought you were referring to like actual motor sport. But still the F10 M5 went round the Nurburgring at 7:55 exactly the same as the E63s as you can see the gap has gotten smaller. Couldn't find the M6 but I presume it's around the same.

Nah, this car is not perfect for track use, feels very heavy and slow at those corners.
