2014 Mercedes E550 Test drive & Review

Nice review. I have been driving my 2014 E550 4M for over 5 years and have been a fan of Mercedes since my ‘02 C32 AMG I had ordered. These are very rare and worth every penny. They go like hell and return 27+ mpg on the highway. You can easily tune it to 550 HP if you are so inclined. Cruising the highway at speed is what these E class cars are designed for. Plus the amount of safety built into these cars makes for a great ride. 5 + years for me and nothing but normal annual maintenance. 👍

Been an owner of this beauty for almost a year, only 16k miles on it so far so she’s new but oh boy is she fast and comfortable. Did a stage 1 with a resonator delete and it wakes up the beast that Mercedes’ hid. Strongly recommend this car to anyone, super sleek design, classy yet modern.

I have a 2014 E550 that I have had for 3 and 1/2 years and it’s is the best all around car I have ever owned. It will get 27mpg at 75mph. I wish mine did not have the noisy pano sunroof. The car has been almost trouble free for since I bought it. There power will blow you away. If you drive one you will buy one.

I have owned one for 2 and 1/2 years and love it. I agree on everything you said. I find the gas mileage to be excellent on the highway. The horsepower is underrated by about 50 hp on the 2014 model

Just bought the same year/model/Color with about 60kr miles And I was a bit worried there was some hidden issues I’d find later that made the owner want to sell and I can tell you that I’m very happy with my purchase. I own an e55 AMG too that’s modded to 650hp and I feel like I got 2 of the best Benz models that have existed, feel very lucky. Also I’ve driven/owned so many different vehicles such as Lexus ISF, Audi A7, bmw 3 series and this thing is #1 rank on the list.

The dial pad also allows the passenger to change the tracks for the cd / dvd player. Volume control is n the drivers steering wheel.

For anyone interested, the motor featured in this car was a complete mistake for Mercedes! They made it capable of far too much power and torque. In fact, with a simple ECU tune, you can smoke most 63’s. Mercedes actually expanded THIS 4.7L engine into the 5.5L that the 63’s used. Problem for Mercedes was that people would rather pay half the price, add a $2,000 tune, and have a faster car. This is one reason the motor was discontinued long ago, aside from the S and SL class. Keep in mind, all 63’s today have a 4.0L v8. So this engine is actually quite a bit larger!

@@caspergundersen8 You don't get the AMG differentials and the relevant gear ratio, also the gearbox is different - MCT (but it can be an option) and again we come to a different gear ratio. This engine is subject to tuning but you will quickly shorten its life, unlike AMG, where many teams have designed and calculated it. I will not list the suspension, turbines, cooling, intake and exhaust system, etc. BTW, from Mercedes are not stupid.

@@shelbyhaiketic4212 e class is lighter, but less aerodynamic than cls. The cls also rides on air, so when they eventually go, it’ll be expensive. Other than that, very similar. My dad has had a rennteched cls550 for over 100,000 miles now, and the air bags just went recently. Great car, and can definitely handle the ecu tune that brings it to 540hp and 705 tq. Same is available for e550.

I am going to get an E550 soon, looking at 2010-2014 models. My question, which variant is more reliable, the older 5.5 liter natural V8, or the newer biturbo 4.7 liter V8? Thanks.

2014 e550 your best bet

​@ozo1517 , I would prefer the 4.7 turbo, but in this region( Oklahoma) way more 5.5 liter 550's. I think it's just that far more 5.5 liter cars were made than 4.7. I see lots of 5.5 liter E550, CLS550, and S550. May be stuck w 5.5, unless I have car nationally shipped.

Maintenance will cost a bit more for oil changes, brake changes etc. also with it having two turbos, the risk factor is things going wrong increases.

imgoingto look at a 2014 E550 on saturday. im concered wit the milage (128K miles) but the price is very good. should i be worried? this would be my first mercedes ever. ive ownedplenty of japanese performed,ace vehicles in the past from Nissan 300zx TT to subaru STI

128 k with most cars will require some sort of maintenance. Go though the vehicle and don’t hesitate to have a shop look at it. Also, the car history would be something I’d look at, especially how often it’s been serviced

The 2008 E550 interior is far more elegant. Too many plastic gadgets that takes away from the CLASS the 2007 - 2009 had. The Luxury-Sport 08 was the BEST interior design over all.

This was the highest package you could buy under the AMG. So you might be looking at some base modes with halogen lights instead
