Kathy I’m curious I see they painted the zincs ??? Won’t that keep them from doing what they’re supposed to do. Love your videos

Zincs were not painted - you can see Bradley installing one after the painting was done.

Notwithstanding that this is one of your best videos, i.e. in telling a story, i sense this will not make it on NNordhavn's highlight reel. Well done.

Ruiqi Mao You might be right, but the boat is now 11 years old, so much of this maintenance is to be expected. It's not a reflection of the quality of the boat! I can assure you of that......at least mostly :).

Like its owners, hell, the boat looks at least 10 years younger. No doubt, good seamanship.

Hi Kathy , are you or your husband skippers , or do you have a professional skipper. ? love the Video, kind regards Steve

Steve Duncan Hi Steve, we both have licenses - I hold the USCG 100-ton Master and Bradley is a RYA Yachtmaster 200-ton offshore.

Speedbird Nine It's really hard to capsize a Nordhavn. However, we do our best to avoid heavy seas. We don't cruise on a schedule and plan our departures around good weather windows.

Just a great video that scared the living daylights out of me. See, I am a past cruiser who experienced many of these same issues on a much smaller scale (43' aft cabin). I love your videos, but I am afraid I will have nightmares tonight! Just for kicks, did that 8 minute video represent about 10 boat units per minute? (Boat Unit = Bring Out Another Thousand)
@nordhavn729 жыл бұрын
+Dennis Dotson Well, we do save up maintenance projects and cram them into a short period of time. So the expenses during that time are a but daunting. But then we go out to anchor for months at a time and hardly spend anything! So it all works out.....

What did your husband do to know so much about boats and repairs?
@nordhavn727 жыл бұрын
LOL, he's an accountant! We learned the hard way, by buying a boat and figuring it out as we went!

Is there going to be any more videos? Been a year since the last one :(

Kathy, can I ask what your yearly operating costs are? I've always heard that it is probably close to 10% of the original cost of the vessel (or the current replacement value of the vessel) per year. So, between fuel, maintenance and such, you could be half a million dollars or more per year, just to keep Shear Madness running properly?
@nordhavn729 жыл бұрын
Gary C Gary, that's a good general rule of thumb but there are many things that can affect it. How much time in marinas vs. at anchor, how much work you do yourself vs. pay others to do, whether you have crew or not, how much you negotiate for good fuel prices, etc, etc. Our costs generally are less than 10% all-in. Email me directly if you want more info.

Every time I see a video where you and your husband hire contractors, your husband seems to do all the heavy lifting? why?
@nordhavn729 жыл бұрын
+radbcc We always work alongside contractors so that we learn all the systems and are able to handle any problem that may arise when out cruising.
