Thanks. It would have cost me $480 but with your help it only cost me $305. I also was able to spend time with son and daughter while they helped me.

Great video. Appreciate the effort it takes to produce these stories… hats off to Carl’s. Especially liked the bits of singing and condescension, almost like my 2nd grade teacher (😉)…

Thank you so much for this very detailed video. I have a 2018 Colorado (but probably not quad cyl brakes) and I am getting ready to replace the pads and rotors. These video instructions will save me a lot of money.

I wish I would have watched your video before I did the front brakes on my Colorado haha. I don't think enough people emphasize how important it is to clean the inside of the calipers and the caliper pins to ensure everything fits back nicely. I went in a bit unprepared but eventually got the job done!

Nice that you greased the contact points for the pads. Many people dont do that!

2019 Colorado, Front and back with new rotors. Yea, pins clips on Left side were gone. But used the wheel of death to clean them up. Blead the calipers, installed the new parts and went for a quick ride around the block every is good to stop.

Why did you skip putting the pads in the caliper, the most difficult part?

Noticed that the pins were replaced in the opposite direction. Assuming it doesn't matter which way the pins go?

I know this was long ago. Then pistons seal are leaking on the caliper. I saw a comment about bleeding the brakes. You do not need to bleed the brakes. As long as the system was not opened.

Did you put the pins in backwards or doesn't it matter?

When I did mine it was pretty hard to put the pins back thru. Now my brakes smell. Do you think I didn’t clean something enough or maybe because I dont have a dremel to clean the pin holes out so the pads are dragging?

It'll matter the next time someone tries to remove them. Way more difficult trying to hammer them out from the back than it is from the front.

I just helped my buddy change his gmc brakes, it was a nightmare we did it wrong to the max. I have had experience with the calipers that flip open so we took out the 4 bolts and the brake fluid fell out!! We are dumb I know , we had to pretty much do a whole drain and fill n bleed it turned into a 4 hour shift! We had no brake fluid on hand lol good times though we r idiots trying to save a buck

Nice video! I appreciate the real world vehicle with rust and corrosion. Background music was fine, good volume also. I heard you’re supposed to take the bleeder valve off when you compress the pads to expel old fluid. Any truth to that?
@ejsmith10
@ejsmith10 Ай бұрын
Watched a less detailed video on this front pad & rotor replacement from a GM tech on here. He recommended taking the brake fluid reservoir cap off when you push the caliper pistons in. Bleeder valve can be tricky as it could allow some air in the lines if not done right, and you'd need to make sure the reservoir is filled afterwards. I'd only mess with the bleeders if you're doing a brake fluid change as part of this maintenance.

I have read that Those are stretch bolts to the caliper. They should never be used- torqed twice. At least that what I have read on my 2018 z71 Colorado??

Was there a year/model of these where the whole hub had to come apart in order to change the rotors?
@MYCHANNEL-on1cp
@MYCHANNEL-on1cp Жыл бұрын
yes pre 2015 was the harder to do captured rotor, you have to remove the whole wheel hub to be able to get the rotors off, much easier on the 2015 and up versions, hope this helps.
