You can replace the water pump without pulling the housing. The 6 holes in the pulley is to remove the water pump

2019 Yukon Denali w/ 6.2L. Thanks for the video. Wish my AC compressor was as easy as yours was! I used a little grease at the compressor mount and it helped. Did the same with the Alternator. I only had 63k on the ODO when I heard what sounded like bells coming from my belt/pully area, but every time I opened the hood the noise went away. Didn’t take long after that for the pump to go bad though, and it chewed up the inside of the housing causing me to replace the whole assembly.

You can try just the impeller and it would be easier. It looks like you can line the holes up and remove the bolts from the pulley. I didn’t see them for sale that way but maybe you can find it

Why change that whole assembly? Mine was pissing out of what seems to be the “manifold” directly under and behind the mounting for the pump impeller. Was this the same way? Or Is there a weep hole, or something and just the impeller and gasket needs replaced and the “manifold” will stop leaking? There doesn’t seem to be any reason it’s leaking from there. For context with the old pump in to find the leak after everything cooled down I added more water and found the leak. Impeller bearing is shot.

Copy, thank you for the quick reply. One more thing, did you use a regular (manual) ratchet or powered one? Sorry for the petty clarification question.

I like to use hand tools for aluminum parts like this. Sometimes I’ll break them loose and use an electric impact to speed things up, but I don’t like tightening with electric impacts

Any reason why you didn't flush the system? Also, I see that you used Prestone coolant. I'm assuming it was Dex-Cool. I paid a little more and got the GM brand. Regarding burping the system, are you saying that running the heat on high burps it or do you have to do anything else?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage6 ай бұрын
This was part of a larger repair, so the coolant had all been removed (even out of the cylinder heads. The heat on helps the heater core burp, and pouring the coolant in the hoses to ensure it fills the radiator until it comes out the thermostat also helps burp it. The main concern is to fill the entire system, and let the degas tank help. Why did you exchange the entire unit? GM dealers do not do this, they change out the impeller unit without doing what you did. Takes less than an hour from start to finish. There are other U Tube videos showing impeller pump change out. Yes GM changed mine out recently since mine failed on a freeway requiring a tow.
