I've driven this car, its a gussied up V6 Accord - and I feel bad saying that because its Acuras pride and joy.
@zxbc19 жыл бұрын
I'd say the reason to get this car is for the SH-AWD system that you can't get in the Accord. And from what I've read it's well worth the money.
@MaliciousSRT9 жыл бұрын
But why? The typical buyer would NEVER see the difference
@EdvinasPocius9 жыл бұрын
Accord is a good starting point so it makes sense; instead of re-inventing the wheel they just refined it and that's smart.
@MaliciousSRT9 жыл бұрын
Edvinas Pocius No, Accord is not a good starting point. If you are trying to compete in the premium segment, you need more than a FWD V6 Honda. First off you need a primo RWD platform, and until Acura/Honda invests they will always get laughed at. I am assured Acura buyers only buy because they never drove a Mercedes, BMW or Cadillac.
@zxbc19 жыл бұрын
Malicious SRT Actually, few people are laughing at Acura now. Reviewers pretty much universally praised TLX's handling. The SH AWD is one of the best AWD options. I heard the 9 speed dog clutch transmission is also really good. When you add in the noise level, ride quality, fuel economy and price advantages, this car is excellent and very competitive against the others. Of course if you're a RWD purist, you'd dismiss a front biased AWD platform no matter how well it drives. I've driven enough cars to know that the transaxle configuration isn't nearly the top consideration, even accounting for some enthusiast sporty driving. I only wish Acura can come to a better styling choice, especially on the front fascia.
@andrewcampos39128 жыл бұрын
Car owners champion their car brand; BMW, Lexus, Audi...and even Hyundai, and trash others for not owning the brand they own. Each brand have their own problems. We adapt with the vehicle's issues. It's comical watching "Why I hate this car" videos. At the same time, it's educational and insightful. This is a great car. Critics praise the AWD performance and the quiet cabin.

Will we be seeing the 2.4 TLX 8 speed DCT model as well? That's the one that was generally more praised. Lighter and more balanced.
@maximus94019 жыл бұрын
***** Really? I thought reviewers like the 8 speed better than the 9 speed. There's more gear hunting in the 9 speed, I'd imagine.
@maximus94019 жыл бұрын
***** Hmm I see. But it seems that the hiccups experienced by the 8 speed DCT can be fixed with software updates to the TCU. Once that's fixed, I'm sure that the DCT will be much better than the 9 speed ZF unit. This is Honda's first in-house DCT for production cars (AFAIK) so I think it's fair to give them some adjustment time.
@maximus94019 жыл бұрын
***** This 9 speed ZF is very well suited to the V6 like you said, but I really wonder what the future of the V6 is for Honda/Acura. With turbos coming into the mix, bigger displacement engines are being replaced slowly but surely. The 3.5 liter V6 J35 makes what, 290 horsepower I believe? The 2.0T Turbo VTEC engine out of the Type R already makes at least that much power. Luxury vehicles tend to keep the big displacement naturally aspirated engines in their lineup, but I wonder how long will it survive. Acura will likely be getting the 2.0 and 1.5 Turbo VTEC engines very soon.
@ashwinthiagarajan26508 жыл бұрын
Would you rather get a TLX V6 w/ SH-AWD or a Lexus IS350 F-Sport? I know that the SH-AWD system is great b/c I have it in my 2009 MDX. But I've heard that the IS350 F-Sport has great handling dynamics. Which would u get Winding Road Magazine?

I'm so glad that I didn't settle for this car. Acura is known for manufacturing solid and reliable cars. But I find them to be quite boring and sedated. So instead of going with the flow, I took a chance and opted for the '15 Genesis from Hyundai...hell yes! It is awesome! Though it can be had for a better price than it's competition does not mean you get less car. On the contrary, it's more car than most of it's competitors. The TLX is a nice car... Only reason I'm not a fan of acura is their high price tag and somewhat low brand exclusivity. $40k for something like this over a $40k A4 or 328i. Sure the acura has more features but shit you're only getting a optioned out Honda after all. The TLX seems super nice though.

So you're worried more about what people think versus what's being offered by this car. By the time you're done optioning out a 335i BMW with features you see in this car it will cost far more initially and in the long run. The 335i is an amazing car and personally I'd take one but don't count the Acura TLX out.
