I'm really shocked you think Acura "nailed" the design of this car. I can honestly admit this should be embarrassing for Acura to produce and rant a car so boring and bland as this one. This car looks like a downgrade. I mean look at the 3rd gen tl. It looks so much more new, and stylish and has a distinctive shape from your average sedan. Type-s had quad exhaust and brembo brakes. And the nerve Acura stresses a sport sedan and has no shown exhaust and ride height like an airplane. It has the same recycled engine from 10 years ago. And yet this simplistic car is going to be a game changer for Acura..I cant wait till their bad sales catch up with them then they realize how complete bullshit Acura management is. Ever since Acura/Honda has been centrally established now in the US, its gone completely downhill. PLEASE ACURA GET A NEW TEAM!
@kdu800410 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more. The TLX is a seen it before design. Though, this design might be a big refresh for the Acura brand it self.
@sal1nger10 жыл бұрын
i agree that the 3rd gen TL is a beauty (i used to own an 08 TL Type-S), but you're wrong about a few things here. this is the first direct injected V6 not only in acura's line up but also honda's. it has never been used before. also, acura sales are up because the new MDX and RDX are selling like hotcakes, which is why the company is focusing on their sedans now, since the 3rd gen TL used to be their top seller. the new TLX is getting unanimously rave reviews by the automotive press. they can't all be wrong. this car is going to sell very well.
@sal1nger10 жыл бұрын
***** i think it has to do with value compared with other cars that the RDX competes with, such as the X3, the Q5 and the GLK, which are quite a bit more expensive once you start adding options. the great thing about acura is how simple their packages are: there is a tech package and an advance package, and even with both added on this car undercuts its competitors by at least 5K, and that's with a 274hp engine with AWD. i've had a chance to sit in the RDX a few times and i was surprised by how much room and cargo capacity it has. i agree with you that i'd definitely pay a bit more and get a basic MDX over a loaded RDX, as you get much more car for your money, but i can see why there is room in acura's line up for both. also, the 2nd gen RDX was only released a year ago, so most of the tech should be the same as what you find in the MDX.

I'm a long time Honda fan and I have an 3d gen TL, but IMO Acura needs to fire their entire product development team. They're clearly incapable of both listening to customer feedback, and actually coming up with a concise design direction for a car. Yeah let's keep the universally hated chrome beak grille for another generation. Yeah, we're gonna make this car super sporty, but we're also gonna hide the exhausts and give it crappy tires, because eco-friendlines. My 6MT TL is way sportier than this as it has an actual sport suspension, Brembo brakes, a limited slip differential, and wider, lower profile tires. It has dual exhausts with actual exposed tips too. Gasp, I must be some sort of eco thug. Also, would it be too much to ask for you to give us an exterior paint palette consisting of more than black, grey and a handful of dull earth tones?

Just did a test drive, dealer let me drive all by myself (awesome) so I had the opportunity to beat it like a good horse. After owning a 2010 TL V6 SH-AWD for four years, it only makes sens to upgrade into a TLX, however, I must admit theres very good competition out there for the same range (IS350, wow) However, the TLX is more price competitve and I just love driving an Acura for some reason (understated luxury). So my conclusion is a sportier drive, more lightweight, very agile, punchy BUT definitely less of a beast... Hoping to see a Type-S resurface in 2-3 years and trade-in for that... But honestly, great car, and a great bang for the buck. PS: Copper black and red pearls looked awesome. Special Dealer Package (19 inch rims + aero kit) kinda sounded like a rip off considering I could get way nicer aftermarkets (and the aero really isnt that awesome)... also gotta say BIG BIG disapointment to lose the pipes... So... Anyways, good review all-around. Looking to read more comments from others on the ride. cheers

That 2.4L with the dual clutch is amazing, very quick shifting and smoother than this ZF 9-speed. Even ZF's own 8-speed transmission is better than their 9-speed.
@b286guy10 жыл бұрын
It's interesting that Acura opted for a transmission made by someone else. I can't think of a time in Honda/Acura history when they've done that. This car looks nice, but I agree with your take on the interior. The design, materials, and graining of plastics look a notch below Audi and others. The latest Accord was a huge leap forward in interior quality compared to the previous generation, so a similar jump with the TLX would have made sense.
@TonyKimtheamusementparkfan Жыл бұрын
ZF’s 9-speed is not really considered the best, even compared to their 6-speed or 8-speed transmissions. The main issue is the violent shifts and that the car lurches during acceleration, and the response is not the best.

In other words, the TLX’s rear legroom is 1.7 inches narrower than the outgoing TL and only 2 tenths of inch ampler than the outgoing TSX. I absolutely HATE the transmission. In Sports+ it is way too violent. When you have the manual mode on it just smacks you. In Normal and Sports its just a bit jerky compared to my TSX. However, this car can go seriously fast. You just have to hold on to the steering wheel.

The Exhaust tips being hidden. That is new to me but oh well. I do like having them flared down and being hidden should prevent you getting cut or burned. The grille and crease Line. Looks like a dress shirt that has been pressed within an inch of its life. I do not like them or any automaker for that matter. Bring back the Amber turn signals in the rear. I like having the contrasting color to make it more obvious difference between turning and sitting at light. Just got a 2017 and your right key fob seems more steady. Personally I prefer the Sequential Multipoint fuel injection but that’s just me. Nav map updates take forever. Did a 2020 map update and after about eight hours still only 65% complete. Fortunately the map update part is complete just downloading the database/POI portion. For the first part (about two hours). The vehicle can’t be moved but engine needs to be running. The second part does not require to be stationary but still takes quite a while. Good news is update can be self installed so saving dealer labor and my 2020 DVD was just south of $130 with expedited shipping and taxes. Took my first semi road trip the other day and getting 30 MPG average city/highway. Read the owner’s manual. 91 octane is “Recommended”. Around DFW area you are pretty much stuck with premium if you want to run 91 Octane. Most mid grades are 89 so to get the benefits of 91 you have to go 93 Octane.

senorgato70 Nope. "Both front seats have three levels of heating. The Advance Package adds three levels of ventilation. Ventilation works by drawing air into the seats through tiny perforations in the leather. These adjustments of seat climate let you reach desired comfort quickly and efficiently." Under standard equipment, if you click on front seats, it says so. Also, looking at the models in the price configuration i don't see where it says "Adding Heated front seats" under the Advanced, or even Tech packages.

Love this! Only dislike the wood and the hidden exhaust.(Btw nice Corvette C7 in the side and rear mirrors at 14:00).

This car looks nice and the overall package looks nice, though it sucks that Acura replaced the TSX and TL with this car. TSX was nice cause its a nice premium family sedan, where as the TL has always been a premium sports sedan. Combining both kinda kills off its purpose. Is it a premium family sedan? or is it a premium sports sedan? Either way I'm starting to like the Acura line up. Hope they don't screw up with the NSX.

Why'd you choose to review the FWD V6? Who would buy that configuration?
@flytrapcan8 жыл бұрын
Saw one of these recently in person and was shocked that I was interested. I've always discounted the new Acura models based on the lack of exhaust tips - lazy design language. It's a nice looking car, much nicer than a video can represent. However, that rear needs some jazz!

Acuras starting to take cues from Lincoln with their push button shift. However, they do execute it better than Lincolns do. Glad to see it coming back though!

Nailed it? You're too kind. The front is great, the side lacks identity & the rear is just plain lackluster. Well at least it was not repulsive as the 09 TL, threw up a lil when I saw it for the first time. TLX handling is definitely a step up. Is it enough for me to make a purchase, no. I'll stick w. my 08 TL a bit longer till a 2nd gen TLX rolls out.

The only thing I like are the front lights.. But where are the fog light.. Get it together. I also don't like the hidden exhaust tips.. The last best Acura sedan was the TL. I love the 2012-2013 models.

Naw. The 2004 to 2008 TL's were the best. The 2009 to 2014 TL's was ugly just because of the back of the car. It look like a mini ZDX.

@@dipsetny9291 Looks maybe, 4th gen TL performance with sh-awd is better all day long. Plus I believe the 4th gen TL has more of a road presence. When I Iook at the 3rd gen TL it doesn't have that wow factor. Type S to an extent but it's not better than the 4th gen overall.

It's spinning its tires because it has a really low 1st gear and a ton of power (something I really like). I've driven plenty of turbocharged Volvos, and most of them don't spin the tires like that. Spinning the tires means power, not limited traction (in this case).
@TassieLorenzo10 жыл бұрын
But why go from 245 to 225 tyre (tire ;) )... It makes no sense for a "premium" car.

Those transmission are scary. I was really into test driving one of these until you pointed out @12:05 that it has the same plagued tranny the jeeps have. Carcomplaints confirms with an overwhelming 102 reported issues with it in just one year. Sigh. And my search for that perfect car continues.

I spent a weekend with a TLX V6 AWD and the 9 speed trans is terrible. Put a manual in it or even a decent DCT and it would be a decent option. The ELS sound system is very good, although I'd like tighter bass. Also put some wider, stickier rubber on it and handling would be decent. The skinny, low rolling resistance rubber really is terrible on a "sports" sedan with loads of understeer mid corner. Turn in is great with the rear wheel steering. After that it plows pretty bad around roundabouts and the AWD really doesn't do anything to change the mid corner handling, but it completely eliminates wheel spin powering away from lights.

16:48 I love how he says compared to the old 6-speed automatic as he nudges his head to his left because he just passed an Acura TL with the 6-speed he was talking about lol. And then you hear a beep as if the TL was saying "you talkin' shit?"
@tristanortiz546010 жыл бұрын
What Acura should of done is keep the TL and TSX while still introducing the TLX with visible chrome dual exhaust tips for the 4 cylinder and maybe even quad exhaust tips for the V6 like what Hyundai does for their new sonata 2.0T

I'm always curious as to why car journalists always feel the need to point how why Acura doesn't have a higher powered engine. I don't think that's what they are all about. And from a business standpoint, those just don't sell as well. But yeah it would be nice to see a Turbo version again just for the hell of it.

I enjoy the Acura tlx , i test drove a Lexus is 250, and the es 350 , infiniti q50, Audi a4. I feel the Acura was the best bang for my buck. I got the SH AWD V6 W/ Tech its really been a wonderful car.the Lexus and infiniti came close but the Audi was just trash compared to its Japanese counterparts . This will be my 3rd Acura, after having the TL i was disappointed , the TL drove great but just fell so far behind with looks compared to the other vehicles , so i was really looking to go Lexus , however Acura really won me over with this vehicle.

@mbenzsl20009 жыл бұрын
wsuptrick The S4 is beyond sweet. Can't really compare it to a TL. However, there are a lot of factors to consider... The TL should be (in theory), a "zero" maintenance car...At least mine was. What year S4 are you considering? New or used? Be prepared to shell out some cash for repairs.
