Excellent review and video, I just bought a 15 Regal GS and so far I’m very happy and very surprised with it. The new MSRP is a bit much for what it is but I feel that getting one lightly used like mine with under 60K on the clock is a market where these cars will really shine. You get all of those features in a fairly quick good handling good looking car for under $20K....that’s pretty hard to beat if you ask me

Soyfan: You'll be relieved to know that in 3 years with our Regal (Turbo, not GS - not a fan of the fangs-front-end), ZERO rattles from the interior... zero problems of any kind. And I like that "gaudy" chrome you mentioned - I like it even more that it inspires polarizing reactions... Finally, the FLIP KEY that annoys you: There's a discrete manual key slot, in case your smartkey fails. Hyundai has it, too. Finally, no ONE TOUCH UP on rear windows - safety feature to prevent decapitating your children.

Because reviewers don’t look at reliability... the regal gs is super reliable you can find many with 200k+ miles being sold at legit dealerships meaning they still run If you see the car being sold at hertz or random dinky little dealerships all over the place for cheap than it’s a trash can... My regal GS is at 120k miles but aside from resealing the headlights I’ve had zero issues the car does need like 7-8quartz of oil the mpg is very accurate and I drive my regal like a dick because off the line it’s quick It’s passing speed is FAST tho!! The pull from the high torque figures and turbo really help the car fly once it hits 2nd gear and up Interior best in class for comfort id say for the used market and the awd isn’t performance based but my god has it saved my ass driving in Michigan winters😅 And the ride is super smooth Brand new these reviews were right because GM likes to offer “discounts” up to $8k so this retailed for 45k But anyone who actually tried to buy one paid 37-40k for fully loaded with awd which made it one of the cheapest in class for everything it offered It sold poorly so now it’s cheap to get used it’s a fucking steal!! Unlike other luxury cars that resale for wayyy under list price due to unreliability

Buick Regal holds a very weird sort of bookend place to my past career as a car salesman being both the very first new car I ever sold, and also one of the last deals I tried to put together before I left the dealership life, at least on the GM side.
@chronos45737 жыл бұрын
This is my second Regal GS since 2012 and just bought a 2017. I've had really good ownership experience to include dealership interactions. No major issues mechanically or with driveline and has been lower maintenance costs than a previous VW GTI that I really enjoyed but was a bit noisy and not comfortable for longer road trips. The only major problem I had with prior GS was the damn key fob, but I think it's because it got too wet, more my fault. The GS is an excellent interstate cruiser and with your radar detector on, you can eat up miles of highway in comfort, style and is fully capable of handling twisty road, ramps, inclines and passing with authority and ease. Sofan you are right, that bright chromed bezel around the PRNDL does reflect and glare right into your eyes! I had the door and trim technicians at the dealership paint it a flat black when I took delivery of my 2017, problem solved. This car is refined and quiet and the Regal GS can deceive a casual test driver into thinking the car is not very quick, until they look down at their speedometer. Most of the professional car publications, put 0-60 at 6.2 seconds if the drivers know how to properly launch the GS. The closest competitor for the GS is actually the VW CC (not and Audi A4) which I cross shopped, but the interior headroom was even more limiting and confined for me.

Phillip Wooden Phillip Wooden He knows what it’s for. I think his point was that many other manufacturers hide their key in the key fob (instead of having a switchblade style key). Such as Honda/Acura, Nissan/Infiniti, Toyota/Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar/Land Rover, Cadillac, etc. Personally, I think it’s a little disappointing that GM didn’t carryover the Cadillac key fobs to Buick, as I feel similar to Sofyan’s comment about how unfortunate it is that the key fob looks like it came from a Chevrolet (which it did), but then again, it’s just a key fob.

Sofyan, history is important but I would like to see you go into these reviews of American cars with a little more objectivity. America isn't #1 (not considering China) in the number of cars it makes per year for no reason. I notice (as I have been watching your reviews for a while now) that you tend to be more negative towards American cars. The cars have improved greatly and in a lot of cases have been good from the start. I would like to see you review what you are driving and not what was driven a decade or decades ago.

@Factfive9 жыл бұрын
***** So, your complaint is a key? Look, I have a Japanese car. I have always driven Japanese cars. However, I maintain an open mind. My first car was Japanese because the American counterpart wasn't very appealing to me. You mentioned GM's ignition problems, it was the other day Toyota recalled almost 10 million vehicles for faulty gas pedals. No car brand is without its problems. GM's problem was complacency and maybe it took stiff competition and a bankruptcy to turn them around. But I believe the turn around was for the better and not the worst. And I believe the cars they are producing now are worthy of a review not connotated by what they were 10 or 15 years ago (at least when it comes to everyman cars). How good is the car? Does it serve it's intended purpose well? How does it stack up against the competition?

FactFive GM still makes crap and cuts corners even if it means death for its customers (eg. ignition switches). The switchgear is all cheap and breaks easily, they have many software issues, and outdated engines and styling. I think this reviewer is very honest. However, I wonder why he would like to change the car to make it into the Cadillac ATS? He wants a bigger engine (which would raise the weight and does not fit in the engine bay) which is not practical. This is competing with Lexus IS 250/350, and against that, it is a more dynamic car. It is not meant to compete against BMW - that is the role Cadillac has now and the ATS is quite effective as is the CTS as a number of reviewers state those cars beat out BMW (not always, but it is close).

It's basically the same car as my 2010 Saab 93 Aero. The 2010 Saab was a GM product and had the same engine and transmission as the 2011 Regal. I'm pretty sure Buick still sources the engine from Germany and the transmission from Japan as they did for the 2010 Saab. If you look ata a 2010 Saab 93 and the Regal side by side, the body shape and size are almost Identical .... What does all of this mean? Probably not much but I can tell you that my 2010 Saab has 160,000 miles and other then a defective drive shaft at around 110K miles and a bad wheel bearing at 145K miles,, I haven't had any major issues with this car. Eight speed comes in 2018 in the redesign and the engine in the GS is rumored to be a V6 with 305 hp. Lighter weight will mean better gas mileage and acceleration. Good luck with that money buying the TLX instead. This was done a year ago when the TLX was new and unfortunately, the new 8 speed and 9 speed transmissions are prematurely failing and going into dealerships for repair. Honda has a terrible tendency on transmission redesigned the last few generations on the V6 engines having massive transmission problems. The 2001 Acura TL and 2003 Honda Accord V6 I owned both blew their transmissions multiple times starting as low as 30,000. My neighbor bought the Acura TLX with the 9 speed and after 27,000 lost his transmission - and then had to wait two weeks to get it back because of the backlog of transmissions being repaired (7 in front of him). I note that my luck with Honda is continuing for my neighbors unfortunately. Their four cylinder transmissions on the other hand are durable.

Why does GM have both Buick and Cadillac, I don't understand the point of two luxury brands.
@romanseano6 жыл бұрын
The point is that people are buying them both. One example, both Buick and Cadillac sales - individually, each - in the U.S. alone were more than twice the total sales of Lincoln… Globally, Buick outsells many brands, including Lexus. It would be a mistake to eliminate either brand, since they both have a market that is engaging them.

I'm no fan of sedans (I think they're boring and useless), but I do have to give Buick credit for trying to go after younger buyers. It's just a shame that for both the Regal and the smaller Verano (which if I were in the hunt for something luxurious) I have to pay top dollar for the optional manual transmission (and they both can come in that transmission).l

I'm only 200 pounds and my butt didn't fit in the the 2012 GS front seat. The side base bolstering made the seat too narrow and were too firm. The interior for me is disappointing, it isn't as nice as reviewers make out. I don't see Buick as near luxury though the upcoming Lacrosse may be the closest that Buick has gotten to that label.

How are GMs sales these days considering the whole ignition-switch fiasco? Quite shady. Whenever I see a new GM(any of their brands) on the road I wonder why would anyone buy one when there's so many better or comparable options these days and their average buyer age is still way over 50 years old. Perhaps it's time for GM to just fade away?

I hate that every single review of the 2014+ Regal Turbo & GS is an AWD version! That AWD brings the curb weight up over 4,000 pounds! It hurts the gas mileage, hurts the braking and handling, and makes the car slower on top of it. I have yet to see a 2014-15 Regal GS (FWD) tested at the track in 6 speed manual or 6 speed auto form. They've all been stupid AWD models. Being how sporty this car is, and how big the wheels are at 19" & 20", this just doesn't seem like the type of car you'd want AWD in. Especially with all the drawbacks I mentioned above. I would just get a set of new Bridgestone Blizzack WS80 snow tires for the FWD GS during the winters. I bet a FWD GS with Blizzacks will go damn near as good in the snow as an AWD GS with all season tires. AWD is not worth it with this car IMO. IDK, maybe it's just me...

Danny P Actually, Buick is more reliable than Acura and Honda. Per Consumer Reports 2015 Car Brands Report Card, out of 28 car brands, Buick ranked #7, while Honda was #8 and Acura was #11. It is the only U.S. car company to be in the top 10. The rest of the U.S. brands ranked last.

Vlad B Not anymore. The last time I checked, with Consumer Reports Dec 2014 Reliability Survey, Lexus/Toyota was #1. Even Honda isn't #1 on JD Powers. The last time you checked must have been 10 years ago. Consumer Reports surveys 1.1 million car owners per year, and they've been doing this since 1936. What does your "source" say?

@socalguy979 жыл бұрын
+KenniTheKid Lexus more aggressive? In what sense? They're pretty bland to me. The ES and IS are a snooze-fest. And also, what about younger buyers? The average age of a Buick buyer, according to Forbes, is 57 while Lexus is 61, Mercedes is 54, and 49 for BMW. None of these is a spring chicken, but at the same time, Buick also doesn't attract the oldest buyer anymore. For the record, I'm 37 and own the Regal. Suits me just fine; however, my 73 year old colleague (who won't retire) drives a 2014 Lexus CT 200H lol.

7 seconds for a 0-60 given that much horsepower and torque is slow as hell. I would get this over an ATS because of its more backseat legroom tho.
@yishaithegift99534 жыл бұрын
Its actually 6.2 seconds when properly launched. Its actually 300lbs heavier than the base model because of the all wheel drive system. Turn off traction control, turn on gs and sport mode. It's faster than 7 seconds.
