It won't be the return of the Grand National until they add the 404 hp 3.0 TT V6 from the Cadillac CT6. And it won't be the return of the GNX until they make a RWD Alpha based Regal with ~500 hp
@dhan2196 жыл бұрын
That 3.0 from Cadillac is only for Cadillac only. The 3.6 TT for the XTS -V sport makes 410hp. All they have to do is put twin turbos on the same 3.6 in the GS and get 410 hp.
@ch6inre6ction116 жыл бұрын
dhan219 in the rehlm of higher performance vehicles specialty cars commonly receive parts from higher end models. With that said, no the engine in this new Regal GS(LGX engine) is from the same 4th generation family as the 3.0 TT V6 in the CT6(LGW engine). The 3.6 TT V6 LF3 is based off the old 3.6 LFX. They are of old designs and you don't want your new car with an old engine in it. The new LGW is much more fuel efficient and despite being rated at less power than the LF3, puts more power to the ground making the CT6 much faster than the XTS V-sport.

I love how Buick went the extra mile for the Regal GS over the standard Regal - Acura can learn a thing or two about differentiation such as in the TLX and the A-spec car which is only a bodykit, suspension and wheels. I'm liking what Buick has done and done so without compromising the livability of the Regal itself. Sure a V6 turbo with 400hp can be in the cards & also bring a revival of the famed Regal Grand National, but the Regal GS does a great job balancing out daily usability and adding a touch of sporting factor that gets the enthusiasts excited.

When you buy during the 20% off MSRP sale, Buick is essentially paying off your depreciation for the first couple of years. The resale hit is on Toyota/Honda with little to no discount and 4 years down the road they cost the same as the Buick but do not offer 4 years 50,000 mile warranty. My old Verano MSRP was the same as Jack Barth's Accord V6, from TTAC, less with discounts, and the same 3 years 36,000 miles later. So much for Honda residuals.

It's a freaking Opel Insignia, not a return of some old Buick. It has nothing to do with Buick apart from the badge it's wearing. Just a rebadged Opel, nothing else. Another excellent review. It certainly appears that Buick has come a long way. It seems that all this car really needs is some sort of full-time spare tire. Otherwise, it seems relatively complete, especially as a daily driver. Do you have an opinion about this car versus a Kia Stinger?
@theredline6 жыл бұрын
Mark Botta Personally, we prefer the Stinger GT and would easily pay the extra money to get a RWD chassis, more power, and the nicer interior. Never thought you’d say a Kia builds a better sport back but that’s the world we live in!
@derbigpr5006 жыл бұрын
Mark Botta "appears that Buick has come a long way" - They sure have, taking a German car (Opel Insignia) developed and engineered by someone else, sold in Europe for almost 2 years, and then put their badge on it to sell it on the US market. Damn Buick is good at making cars today. /sarcasm
@markbotta85676 жыл бұрын
Your post is true enough. But the "long way" comment was more a reference to Buick's past land yacht/geezer reputation. Much like Caddy's rep which they have worked hard to change over the last decade. As far as rebadging goes, that is a very common practice among manufacturers, so your observation is hardly noteworthy. One only needs to look at Acura/Honda or Lexus/Toyota to see cars that may be based on more "plebian" models. Additionally, while not a rebadge, the Genesis G70 model will have been on sale in Korea well over a year before it will ever see these shores. I doubt anyone will be complaining about that. The GM/Opel partnership had been a long standing one. Whether or not Buick engineers were involved is hardly relevant, although your statement to that effect elsewhere is incorrect. If nothing else, the car had to be modified to meet US safety standards. But, the bottom line to take away from this is - should the Buick GS be at least considered if someone is looking for a GS/GT type driver. Based on Sofyan's review, that answer is YES.

Polestar Wes I don't disagree in that regard. I'm not on the turbo car train either. It just seems like Gm cut too many corners to keep from undercutting the Cadillac brand. Turning the interior black in the GS isn't going to turn that pleather into the real thing. Every generation the midsize segment goes thru just kills the need for the entry lux brands like Acura and Buick. It's a pretty car and looks do sell cars, but when people cross shop they'll see what I'm saying about the cost cutting.

Bought one spur of the moment today. Got the dark gray color and really love the looks. Haven't added it up exactly, but probably got around $6k off of MSRP as a reference. I am coming from a manual 3.0i BMW, and this car sounds so much better and has quite a bit more power as well. This is my first time driving with a HUD...absolute game-changer IMO. I really miss my stick-shift, but it has been 8.5 years since my wife could drive my car, and with 2 kids that can be inconvenient sometimes.

Buick has come a long way of course, and their safety and reliability is top notch. However it's the little things that they need to offer to sway people over comparable cars. No auto windows for the rear? No pano? No paddles, no motorized hatch? And the interior is so plain. I think the old GS was better looking.... That being said I would drive one but not buy one.
@fredu876 жыл бұрын
It's not a Buick, it is an european Opel Insignia with different badge... honestly, had previous and current generation of insignia, piece of crap. Never gonna buy Opel again.
@derbigpr5006 жыл бұрын
You do know that Buick had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AT ALL to do with the development, designing or engineering this car, right? It's 100% a German car, Opel Insignia, been on sale in Europe for almost 2 years now but again americans pretend to live in a parallel universe and ignore facts.
@nickbabeaux49806 жыл бұрын
I do know that, I also do know that Opel would not be the company it was today whatsoever as General Motors bought Opel in 1929... This is a general motors car, designed by Opel and named Buick here. So yes texhnically it's a Buick as well. Hell the concept Insignia in 2003 had a Corvette engine. Obviously many ignorant Europeans such as yourself are oblivious to this!!

EGGBIRDTHEROOSTER - GM still holds the rights to the development work and owns the platform the Regal is using so Opel being sold has no impact on whether there is a next generation for the Buick Regal. The only difference is that the next generation Regal will be developed and engineered by a different team in a different location.

I dont understand how you can review this car and not mention the Kia Stinger GT. It also has a V6, is offered in AWD, is a sportback, and costs about the same... yet is so much better looking (not that the regal is bad looking, but if you had a coupon for a free car, and you could pick between the regal and the stinger... I think we all know which would win).

3 things here: 1. No turbo, no GN comparison...period! 2. Brembos in the front and not the back, VERY weak, the calipers aren't even painted out back...cheaped out! 3. This engine has turbo variants, why not here? Once again, half baked effort which is sad because it's a great looking car with utility to boot, pun intended.
@ZSPZay6 жыл бұрын
Yeah its such a shame, even Acura is 'supposedly making a tlx type-s with a turbo v6 and that will blow this out fo the water. In addition to that the stinger gt and gt1 is a much better value then this with more power and better looks imo (even though everyone says they pulled from everyone elses desgin; doesnt make it a bad looking car.)
@niklow996 жыл бұрын
They cheaped out on a lot of things by looking at the video. No brembos in rear, no door sensors. Only front windows are auto, interior is so so. For 45k...40tops is a deal for this car. Not more.

Interesting. In Australia we get this car as the ZB Holden Commodore and get the V6 on four different trim levels as well as the four cylinders on three different trims. Our top of the range model is the VXR which is a copy and paste of this Regal GS however we get rear heated seats. Fun fact, it was Holden who convinced GM to put a V6 in this car only because when the proper RWD Commodore was being built in Australia 70% of all sales consisted of the V6 motor so work was done to make the front end bigger to accommodate the engine. It was a good decision as most of these that i've seen so far (they're not selling well as the public hate them) have been the mid trim RS with the V6.

Here is the thing, we were SUV shopping right before Christmas, we stopped into a Buick dealership because it was the only one open at 6pm Christmas eve, test drove a couple of Buicks, I can honestly say, I preferred them to the Caddy's. However, the price point was the same as the Caddy and you don't get the extras that you do when buying a Caddy....I will say however, Buick got very aggressive with the pricing at the end of last year, taking close to $10k off the price of a Regal, bringing it down to a price point that was hard to ignore, if they do that again this year I may be picking up a new daily driver.
@derbigpr5006 жыл бұрын
That's because when PSA was buying Opel from GM, GM got this car as a parting gift and a part of the deal. It's an Opel Insignia, been on sale in Europe for almost 2 years, and now Buick got the rights to build it for the US market under their name, even though THEY LITERALLY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DEVELOPMENT of the car at all. NOTHING. Not a single Buick engineer spent a millisecond working on this car.

People were racing Buick’s in 1909, Buick created the over 500 lb-ft of torque 1970 GSX, they raced and won in NASCAR, Buick created engines for Indy that still hold top speed records of over 200 mph that still stand today, and of course, the awesome 87 GNX, which was literally the fastest car in the world, and they barely tried.
