+Jordan “CAN-DOG” Miller It shouldn't matter. A standard work truck should be made like they used to make them in the 90's. Crank windows, 20 gallon gas tank, no ac, the list goes on. A base model truck shouldn't cost more than my fully loaded truck did in 1995. If you actually look at a fully loaded truck from 08, and look at the 15 F-150, there isn't much difference really. Certainly not 23 grand worth of difference.

If your buying a new truck you should be getting at least $8,000 off. The 2015 F-150 top of the line Platinum is marked down to $52,000 at most dealers. If you compare a 2000 f-150 to a 2015 f-150 with an inflation calculator they are on par with each other price wise. There are definitely more expensive trims but thats what some people want.

@hackfreehvac9 жыл бұрын
+C-grunt The non turbo 5.0 will loose 20% of it's power at elevation. Plus the turbo engine makes it's FULL TORQUE from 2,000- to near redline. The 3.5 TT will probably outpull the 5.0 pretty easy. It already out pulled the bigger Chevy and Nissan V8's. Especially on this high altitude mountain grade.
@oldtwinsna83479 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Lockwood not in high country where they tested at (Colorado). we're talking base elevation of 5k in the plains to 11k at the tunnel. Density altitude ranges from 7k to 14k depending on the weather. That's a 25-35% drop in power. Hence why they created those things called "atmospheric compensators" to reduce the effect of elevation. AKA turbochargers.

I think your comparison is horrible at the end. The engine is just an option available with both the XLTs and the higher end models like the Lariat, KR, etc. I happen to have a Lariat with the 3.5 EB but could have just as easily gotten it with the 2.7 but since I also often drive in the Colorado mountains I wanted the cushion of the extra power. I also went with the Max tow package which has the 3.55 axle ratio so again you comparing these two trucks with different axle ratios really messes up your test results. I know you can only test what you are provided but I think your results are skewed because of the differences. I personally love the power of my truck and I probably would still love it if I had gotten the 2.7.

It's almost like Ford paid people to advertise the 2.7 as a better, faster option even though real side by side 0-60 times prove otherwise. I'm in a rental with a 2.7 and it does 0-60 in 6.45 seconds, pretty fast! But my 2015 with the 3.5 does it in under 6 seconds with a 3.55 rear axle. All the articles out there are simply misleading!

+Marc Monson They already loaded them THE SAME WEIGHT and the 6.2 was SLOWER. You think adding another 500 or 1000 lbs will change that? The nice thing about these real world tests is that you get to see the benefits of the turbo engine when climbing high altitude. The Chevy lost a good 30% or so of it's power. The Ford was likely close to the max power since the turbos can just spool a little faster in the less dense air and the computer will still regulate it at approx the same PSI of boost.

I just got my 2017 f150 xl 2.7 ecoboost today after watching many tow videos of this engine. I travel doing welding and pull an 18 foot camper. Was doing it with my Silverado 4.3 stick shift, and it pulled it fine, i would just get 16 mpg when not pulling. After driving the 2.7 i was impressed to the point I ended up purchasing it. Also got $4050 in rebates from ford so got a very good deal. Thank you guys for your work. How lame ford has to pump engine noise through the speakers to make it sound like a chevy or ram.... lol
@benjamingriffith41838 жыл бұрын
So why is Ford doing it (making v8 noises from speakers)? Also there smartness if you knew so much about cars / trucks then you would know it is a fact that turbos put more stress on the entire motor thus decreasing the life of the engine. Excluding diesels since they are not aluminum and designed to handle to pressures. In fact those wonderful Eco Boosts you seem to love have excessive carbon build up and you can't clean it. If you put ANY cleaner in it it will void warranty. Because it damages / destroys the expensive turbo. Ford's solution is to replace the heads. Since I'm sure you have no clue what that is that basically means rebuilding the top end of the engine every 75k to 100k. Yea great truck! (Sarcasm)

Benjamin Griffith Boost pressure in cylinders can damage ring lands if they are being over boosted in this case a few pounds isn't really that much more stress, The engines have this miracle thing called direct injection say that with me DIRECT INJECTION and OIL SQUIRTERS which act as a method of cooling because HEAT=DEATH not boost pressure. An engine is exploding air mixed with fuel and you're telling me just by shoving a few pounds of air in the intake doesn't make it more efficient ? Turbos aren't a new technology, with water and oil coiled turbos that also reduces heat. I think you're behind the times skipper

You're either listening to old guys whine about turbos from 20-30 years ago or their kids spewing the same rhetoric.

If you want the same noise as Dodge Rams just get into a vehicle with ticking noises coming from the motor. Our company has 4 Dodge Rams and they all have random issues and 2 needed motors replaced before 130k miles.

2.7 vs 3.5 ? how much weight are you going to tow?

61k ford is loosing it, I'd go for a ram 5.7 loaded for about 45k
@clintmullins44067 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can get a ram for 45k but you can also get a 45k f150. That 61k f150 has technology that ram doesn't even offer. Radar cruise, blind spot warning, lane assist, auto braking. Etc. if people want a pickup with Lexus features it's the f150. Dodge and chevy do not offer those features.

won't be good. everyday driving sure, but those mountains really make those turbo's look good, can't beat forced induction when you start running out of air. nothing against TFL, but if you want to see a towing test between the two, and you don't live in high elevation, I'd suggest a different reviewer. again, not knocking TFL, they live in Colorado, so they test there. if you don't, then understand all TFL videos are going to heavily favor forced induction.

mabey you should ask the tech's at a ford dealer how the new ecoboosts are doing/ the local one for me stated they are fixing oil leaks like crazy on trucks with less then 1500 km's, least a gm and fiats waits till 30k before it starts leaking. but the engines do work dam good but in the end of the day everyone just needs to try all 3 trucks and see which they like
@ravynx9 жыл бұрын
It was an okay comparison. I can understand not getting similar options and especially axle ratios but at the end why don't you compare prices of similar models rather than the pink-up King Ranch model that obviously will cost a heck of a lot more? Keep prices real in the comparison rather than what model you got stuck with.

Let's be clear. Every pickup truck trying to be loud with their exhausts when they have negligible acceleration and horsepower makes them no different than a douchebag kid with a noisy honda civic. Guys just don't realize that they're ricing out their trucks, but are the same ones that would talk shit on an econobox for doing the same thing. When your goal is to sound loud and you have no speed, you're a ricer.

I see a lot of people commenting about the price of the truck and scoffing at it. I have NEVER paid sticker price on any vehicle I have ever bought. Seriously, the only thing that is nuts is people believing that you HAVE to pay sticker price. I just bought a 2015 XLT with the sport appearance, tow and 301a packages. Its loaded with all sorts of goodies and the 2.7l Eco with 3.73 gears. Sticker price was $51,000. I paid $42,000. I am in Canada as well, and vehicles are a bit more expensive here...

I ordered and am awaiting delivery of a 2016 F-150 Platinum SuperCrew 3.5L 4x4 loaded. I know it's a fortune to pay for a truck but as someone who was considering a high end SUV but ultimately wanted the advantages/flexibility of a truck, this model for me had all the luxury of what i would've wanted in the SUV. I know everyone who has commented already will say I'm stupid but I'm sure there are some of you who buy Snap-On versus Craftsman even knowing both will do the same job and have the same warranty.
@jasonmeldrum76869 жыл бұрын
***** Not true, where's your facts the 2.7 or 3.5 are so unreliable? The 2.7 is a new engine and there would be no history or facts showing whether it's reliable or not and the 3.5 had some minor issues years ago working out the bugs but has done a damn good job proving how good it really is. Next you mention Chevy/GMC de-throwing the F150 because sales have been so bad ? Again you need find the facts before giving your thoughts, demand is and has been there on the new F150 sales were down AS EXPECTED from retooling the two plants that produce them and they have repeatedly stated production would not be up to full until right now and dealers would not be stocked until late summer early fall the new F150 still has the shortest on dealer lots of anyone before there sold. Ford will make up ground second half of this year and will still very likely outsell GM and if they didn't right now this would be the reason for it. As for quality I would currently say they are pretty much equal and of course time will tell not opinions.

I really like both of those trucks. Obviously I love the exterior styling of the King Ranch and all of the interior features, but I wouldn't buy one because it's too expensive and too heavy with all of that extra tech weight. I'd be content with a lowly equipped Lariat or upper level XLT. However, if I were buying a new F-150, I would actually wait for the new 10 speed auto and the updated 2nd generation 3.5 ecoboost. That will probably be 2017.

Optioned similarly, there is NOT a $14,000 difference between the two trucks! You could get a lower optioned 3.5L ecoboost for significantly less.

GOT A 2013 F150 4X4 3.5 ECOBOOST WITH 3.73 REAR END. UNBELIEVABLE POWER. IM VERY INTERESTED IN THE 2.7L ECO, CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THERE'S A HUGE DIFFERENCE OR NOT??
@clintmullins44067 жыл бұрын
All the people complaining about the price of the truck need to study an options list. For all the big 3. You can get into one of these trucks for the low 40s. It won't be a heavily optioned. The 502a option to get the lane assist/adaptive cruise is huge package of equipment. Which is why the option is 8k. But it turns the truck in a luxury car. It's an amazing amount of tech that works extremely well.
@OffGlengolandFarm8 жыл бұрын
Hello I just wanted to point out a couple of errors, the F150 with a 3.5 Eco boost and 331 rear end is not rated to pull 10,700 lbs. In order to pull 10,700 lbs you need to order the trailer Max package which comes with 355 gears you can also option a 373 rear end for greater pulling acceleration. I know this as I just built a new 2016 f150 and read the fine print about max towing 😄! Maybe it was different in 2015 but I doubt it, manufactures always tout there product with Max towing figures then have a disclaimer (when properly optioned) lol
@nickschaps40226 жыл бұрын
Well maybe if you had compared the same body style trucks we could have come to a reasonable conclusion. But an extended cab FX4 and a crew cab King Ranch are totally different. Shit test. Try again.
