(www.MrTruck.com) MrTruck review of the new Ford sport truck SuperCab Lariat 4x4. Hauling ATV and towing a Logan Coach horse trailer in the Rockies with Kelsey. Amazing little twin turbo that could climb the hill. It's a long video and can't cover all the new features of the all new aluminum body F150.

But I try to bring out the maximum the trucks do, not baby them. Yes it if was your truck you'd want to take care of them so they last. These are test vehicles that go to auction when we're done. The prototypes we get, mostly go to the crusher when we're done.

Not a fan of the clamshell doors but they finally made a good looking truck. I'm not brand loyal as I've owned all half tons. Tundra to date was still the most in my opinion heavy duty (out of the half tons) but it's in need of some serious mpg enhancing things. My 2014 ram couldn't be happier. 8 speed and coils=one smooth quiet daily driver yet potent enough to tow. I'd opt for a taller rear end on next build out. Wasn't a fan of the puck shifter at first but have grown to love the extra room it affords me in day to day driving. Another great video Kent, keep up the great work.

Aaron Stokes Any probs with your Ram? Just asking because I hear that Ram overall has the most probs, stuff like small quirks going wrong, than the other brands. Not saying other brands don't have some issues occasionally or that Ram is a "bad" truck, just wondering from your experience so far. But on your comment about the Tundra....a friend of mine has one and a couple of weekends ago we drove from Moncton NB Canada to Halifax NS(near 300 kms I guess) and the fuel mileage was poor, especially compared to other trucks....heard that from some other people too, but in the 2 years now he has owned it, he's never been back to the dealer for any probs...absolutely nothing.

I drove the same truck with the 2.7. Very big improvement over 04-14s. To me it felt as powerful as a 5.4L. It feels like a dog compared to the larger Ecoboost though. Really all you need though if you just haul and don't tow. Good review, but no reason you could not have done it on dry pavement. Hope you got it cleaned before you took it back!

As a F-150 SuperCrew owner don't waste your time with the SuperCab. Get the full on 4 door SuperCrew, you won't regret it... :-)
@99AudiMan09
@99AudiMan09 8 жыл бұрын
+darkmath100 only downside is you lose bed space unless you make the truck excessively long with the super crew and the 6 1/2 ft bed. Also, in that configuration, the max tow rating goes down because the truck has to pull more of its own weight. So a SuperCab would be able to tow more. The Super Crew is very nice and spacious though. But, I wont more tow rating and more bed space.
@darkmath100
@darkmath100 8 жыл бұрын
99AudiMan09 I agree. But the F-150 is such a bad ass truck and the steal is so good that it doesn't matter. Ford's max towing and pulling capacity are just there for legal reason. I've gone past both in my f-150 and never had a problem.
@99AudiMan09
@99AudiMan09 8 жыл бұрын
I agree that those ratings are on the conservative side. But i want the room of the crew cab, and also want the 6 1/2 ft bed, just not on the same f150 because it would be too long for my liking. The bed is a little more important for me. My motorcycle won't fit in the 5 1/2 ft bed with the tailgate up.

I want the tail gate extender regardless. I just think the crew cab short bed looks kinda "goofy" no offense if that's what you own. But so does the crew cab 6 1/2 ft bed option in my opinion. I guess the supercab 6 1/2 ft bed just pleases me aesthetically speaking. I do really want the roomy crew cab though

Nice Review! I test drove a 2015 F150 and I agree with your points about the Parking Brake and Headlight Controls. Those two items really need to be changed. The knob to switch on the headlights is really hard to grab if you have medium or large size hands, and impossible with gloves on. Also, i think the power window buttons are too small and the locations of the door locks and memory seat buttons are really awkward. Other than those few issues, I really liked the new F150 and that 2.7 L Ecoboost has some crazy power!

Good video! You pointed out basically every reason to buy that model. The only problem is, you inadvertently reminded me why I wanted a 15 over the 14 I settled for and made me sad. :( heh Get one w/ the ramps and bed step and show us how those work w/ each other. Kelsey, since you don't drive w/ your knees, it won't matter, but that driver seat should also rise way up. ;) PS You do a better job, not just at being good looking, but covering the features of the vehicle, than say... Roman. Keep it up, gal. Attention to detail matters(even in editing). No, I don't hate Roman, but anyone who can't measure the bed drop correctly when the number is... 2... is iffy in my book. LOL

My only complaint with Ford right now is, they won't let you have a crew cab 6.5' bed with the 2.7L with 4x4, only in 2wd. Which wouldn't be too bad I guess with a locking rear end but still It'd be nice to have that extra bed space with the larger cab. I'll sacrifice towing and payload for space because I don't tow much more than maybe 4,000lbs at most.

LarryC213 Thanks, I'm working on getting one truck of each brand. I drive a Ford F250, just bought a 1970 Chevy C10 that we are going to restore. I get a new truck or SUV every month sometimes every week so my truck doesn't get many miles. I went 6 years one time without owning a truck because of all the media trucks. When the Chevy is finished, we'll start looking for a classic Power Wagon

The leather seats are also uncomfortable in all of the 2015 F150's. I own a 2014 fx4 and the leather seats have always been great. The 2015 seats are very thin everywhere compared to last years model. The lumbar support always pushes into your back when it's deflated, especially the Platinum. My back hurt after 20min of driving. The steering wheel is bad cause it pops out in 3 spots so you can't rest your thumbs at 10 & 2 like last years model. I'm 6'2" and my left knee is forced to rest on the door handle inside...causes my knee to hurt. They made the seats shorter too so it's more comfortable for short people. They removed 1" of deepness from the truck bed. I hope ford fixes all of these issues in the next year cause there's already lots of forums online of people complaining. They ruined the seats, inside door handle design, and steering wheel, and by raising the floor board 2" under the ebrake they made it impossible to stretch your leg out, which also forces my leg to sit high causing my knee to rest on the handle. I'm really disappointed at Ford cause I was going to buy the platinum before driving one.

@ravenjames3873
@ravenjames3873 6 жыл бұрын
that's not why you buy a truck, you do it for work not because it sounds. i do like the v8, but i like it because of work. now out the two turbo engines, i would actually take the 2.7L v6 turbo over the 3.5L ecoboost. because the 3.5L is the one that has issues sometimes and i don't need the most powerful engine in the class. the 2.7L also has a max towing capacity of 8000 pounds. so if you don't have anything that weighs roughly 7000 pounds including yourself, that would be more than enough for most buying. if i was in the market for an F150 my first choice would be the 5.0L v8, my second choice would be the 2.7L.

I have the 14 ecoboost with the 3.5. plenty of comfort and I am getting 21 to 26 mpg bobtail . The minute I hook up my 14 ft trailer, mpg drops to10-12. has Ford corrected this problem . It just doesn't seem right to have that much of a drop in mpg just pulling 2300 lbs.
@radioguy1620

You have a 2.7L biturbo V6 pulling weights that some V8s strain against. You're going to suffer fuel economy. It's towing. Once those turbos kick in it becomes boost; when they are not engaged it's Eco. Those honestly aren't bad numbers for pulling that much weight, especially for an engine of that size.

@ravenjames3873
@ravenjames3873 6 жыл бұрын
i think he said they were towing about 4500 pounds and if you include him and the girl that's about 4800 pounds total. so that's real good for a 2.7L v6 engine, but it's all due to it being turbo charged. without the turbo that 2.7L wouldn't have been able tow 4800 pounds. the 3.7L naturally aspirated v6 engine could do it, but i believe it can only tow about 6500 pounds. that smaller 2.7L with the turbo can tow up to 8000 pounds, which is very good.

What was the fuel mileage while towing? I am looking to replace my 04, 5.4L F150 but I am not sure on this configuration. Do you think the bed can handle a 2 5/16 goose? @MrTruckTV
@MrTruckTV 9 жыл бұрын
Ben Burkhalter I don't remember it being remarkable. But none of the gas engines are great for fuel mileage when towing. I think with the stock trailer you'd be fine, but I wouldn't go 9000 lbs. The 2.7L is outstanding in many ways, but it's still a small engine. At some point with heavy trailers, there won't be enough antifreeze or radiator or extra fuel cooling off the top piston ring to tow big trailers. That next level is for the 3.5L EcoBoost

funny, I've come across quite a few 3.5 ecoboost's with more than 100k and rarely any issues. diesels have been running turbos for quite awhile and no issues. so what makes you think the 2.7 is going to fail?? any facts to back up your claim??

ecoboost engines already have problems if you will read about it,i had 4 cars with turbines and all of them had problems,my friends2013 f150 ecoboost was burning so much oil that after a car wash and 100 miles his tail gate was black,my brother in law bmw 5 series needed new turbo at 20000 miles,of course you can find turbo engine with high mileage that runs fine but chance for it is much smaller than with n)a engine .especially if someone is gonna do some towing or will have heavy foot.

yup, very nice when new. but the ecobust will not last. owners can expect a major repair bill to replace the intake valves and head at 60k miles, exactly when the warranty expires. the reason is the DFI design, which ensures oil and carbon will deposit on the valves. this could be prevented if a dual DFI and MPFI design were used, like the Toyota motors. Mr Truck should report on this.

the catch can helps, but it is not a permanent fix. regardless, I understand for 2017 onwards, the ecobust has now 2 injectors and this may solve the problem of valve deposits. time will tell. at least Ford did something to address the problem.

The only people who say what you say....are my Dodge driving friends who say they have a buddy whos dads co worker friend had nothing but trouble with his his eco boost....run with that solid data! It's obvious that you're a Ford guy (nothing wrong with that) and seem to favor them in reviews but what's your honest opinion on how long these Ford EcoBoost engines are going to last? I got to really dig into one and it seemed to be tuned for maximum power and that's my concern. My experience building race engines tells me that engines built and turned for maximum power output usually don't last very long. The EcoBoost engines really have nothing left to be gained through tuning because Ford has them basically maxed out for more impressive HP/TQ output. My concern is the guys buying these trucks may be disappointed in a few years when the trouble starts, most likely short after warranty expires. Ford has already seen the failed turbos, extreme carbon build up, stretched timing chains, and decreasing MPG's from this engine, there are plenty of customer complaints. Being a Ford guy, what's your unbiased view on these tiny, twin turbo engines??

PaLEOjd Hey I bought a 1970 Chevy C10 a couple months ago. If it were 1970, I would buy a GMC new. I'm a fan of EcoBoost, I'm predicting the 2017 Super Duty will have the 3.5L EcoBoost instead of the 6.2L. Ford's bet the farm the EcoBoost

Dragon Knight of the Ebonheart How about a 5.0L twin turbo?
@dragonknightoftheebonheart7469
@dragonknightoftheebonheart7469 9 жыл бұрын
no, it does not make sense in any form for ford to make a twin turbo V8 for any of its products when superchargers take up less room and turbos create a massive engineering hassle for ford and the cost. the 5.4l was a terrible idea for the superduty that was very apparent not because of power but because displacement to weight. a 5.0 engine is far too small for any thing above half ton. even though the 5.0 lacks low end torque. thermal management is another factor. ford also spent billions of dollars last decade on their all new engines designing and testing/developing and this includes the 6.2l. 5 years and throw a motor away like that in such demanding area? does not add up for ford to do such a thing. and im shocked that ford has not done anything special with the 6.2l that engine is a true LS killer and the power pontential are far greater than any engine ford has ever created except for the 427 SOHC and the 428SCJ engines. at 500RPMs lower than the 5.0 im making over 100HP with my 6.2l in my 04 marauder. that platform has such a massive potential its ridiculous. but in the coming year I will posting videos on youtube and selling products for that engine.

+PaLEOjd I own a 2011 3.5 Eco. just turned 140,000 miles and its only service item I've had to do besides tires and brakes is spark plugs at about 120K. Not one ounce of loss of power, oil use is unchanged. the big difference is this engine is a modern design and German built. Ford will have the last laugh when these are running long after 400K miles. The failures you are speaking of are rare, but the internet seems to gravitate toward every single issue. Plus the internet has no way to discern from people who fail to maintain the vehicle and then cry about expensive repairs. The facts are the Eco's have the highest resale value. That itself indicates the lack of real world issues. My company has about 20 of these since 2011. out of 20 only one had a major issue and that was related to electrical in the dash. We also own Dodges and Chevys. The Chevys have had few issues as well, but tend to have poor interior plastics and seat materials wear out, the dodges...plagued with small but irritating things like AC compressors and switches. Dodge had the worst issue with a couple transmissions failed after warranty. We sell the trucks at about 100K and the driver gets first right of refusal to buy back the truck for their personal use, almost all of the Eco's were purchased back! NONE of the Dodges. and I'm a moper guy myself. The only folks who doubt ecos..have never had ecos. Torque better than any v8 on the market (usable and almost instant, not peak torque like the chevy 5.3 where you have to flog it to death to get peak numbers) Finally you are way off on the remark about maxing the power out. a simple tuner without a single other modification yields a truck with upward of 500 Ft lb torque, over 400 hp. and reliable at that. A situation very similar to the diesels. There is tons of power to be unlocked when you get away from the factory tunes. also some argue that turbos are less reliable. Hogwash..every diesel on the market has turbos or multiple turbos. the turbo works from exhaust pressure and if they are ultra reliable on a diesel with the much higher pressures and temps than a gas engine..why would they be less reliable on a small v6? Go drive a 2015 Ford with a 3.5 and see for yourself. Its technology at its finest.

LOL, easy tiger, no need to get all butt hurt and defensive. At 17:30 of the video, you told Kelsey to put it in sport mode and it would not go. I was just busting your balls a little. I have been in the auto/powersports and marine business for almost 30 years, sold new and used Fords for over 12, and currently run a used truck center, all from my arm chair. Towed and driven quite a few trucks in my day. I am a true blue Ford man and I have had many, so I think I do have some insight. The type you think I am is way off, I simply want people to get the right information when they watch a video that may not have the right information. If you are going to go by a name someone gave you, and use that name, you should live up to it with correct and positive information, especially if you are going to post KZbin videos about them. I have never claimed to know more than anyone, just ask my kids, they know everything. Just trying to help Mr. Truck out a little.

Now this email have a more civil tone. I do appreciate your opinion. I sold cars and trucks for 10 years. The week after 911 Ford flew the top 4 salespeople in the country to Dearborn for a live 2 hour Ford Star TV show. They kept me in the penthouse suite, I went on the air first and then at the end Ford dealers and sales people could call in and ask questions. All but 1 call came in to me. I was the only one of the four that Ford sent a film crew to Colorado to film a couple of my customers for the TV show. I did 2 training truck video's while in Dearborn. That's one thing about Ford, since I use to sell for them, when I make a suggestion about something on a truck, I can talk to the chief engineer and have been part of an improvement. I know engineers at GM and RAM too. GM did change a ABS module I complained about, it took 4 years.
