I hope to buy a new Canyon once I'm done in College. I was so happy to hear that they were bringing back these trucks. I currently own a 2005 Colorado, and it's been a very reliable truck. It currently has 256,000 miles on it and it's still running strong. I'm still on the original drive train too.

The gmc twin looks much better than the colorado but the front appearance shows why people will still buy a frontier or tacoma over the gm twins. Front ground clearance is substantially better, even when comparing the off road packages from the gm twins to the standard or off road packages of the nissan and toyota. This is obviously done for fuel economy but the loss of 1 mpg would be well taken to have more clearance for a "lifestyle" vehicle than a chevy malibu. Looks like you would hit a parking curb if you pulled to far forward making it kind of useless in any off road situation.
@BeachJedi10110 жыл бұрын
100% agree
@Bambooben10 жыл бұрын
The front bumper valance that gives it the low appearance and ground clearance come off easily with a couple of screws. So if you don't care about MPG and want more ride height or the better look, it is an easy change. GM has said this in numerous interviews.

When the Diesel version of the Canyon and Colorado comes in 2016, I'm wondering what the towing capability, and ultimately, the fuel economy of the diesel. It's nice to have when the Ram EcoDiesel is too much truck. Nissan will come back with their diesels for the Frontier and Titan (it's been a while since Nissan updated those trucks, they've been long in the tooth).
@zr2ee110 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the great reviews, curious how real world gas milage will be on this. With my 06 double cab long bed tacoma getting 20mpg average and 400 miles to the tank from the factory at high elevation during my commutes and still towing 6,300 lbs. 17 and 24 mpg with a 7k lb tow rating still sounds like a tough sell if I'm to be shelling or another $35k, especially with full size trucks being in a similar range. I'll certainly have to test one for myself but i feel I'll be holding onto mine and waiting to see what toyota and nissan respond with.
@jasoncarpp77426 жыл бұрын
I've always liked the idea of a small displacement turbo diesel engine. If you have a 40' caravan to tow, then a 6.6 litre Duramax would probably be the best engine for the job, assuming the truck itself is up to the task. But for something smaller than that, a smaller diesel engine would definitely be the engine to use. I can think of quite a few vehicles that would benefit from a Duramax 2.8 litre turbo diesel engine. Why more small diesel engines aren't offered in the USA is beyond me.

I went to Kelly Blue Book just to run a quick comparison. All three competitors (Nissan, Toyota and Chevy) 2008, 88000 miles, off road package for each (Z71, TRD and Nizmo) towing package and all options being as equal as possible between the three. This yielded exactly what I have always known. Chevy is $15800 private party, Nissan is $17800 private party and Toyota is $21200 private party. For vehicles that cost almost the same brand new. I looked the Colorado at the dealer once and thought to myself, who the he'll would pay that price for this junk when you can get a Toyota for less? Your money will go much farther with a Toyota and you'll spend less getting to 88000 miles and beyond. That new Colorado may be nice on the outside, but it's going to be the same story as before. I converted to Toyota a few years back and I can't wait for the new Tacoma. Same old crap from same old Chevy!

This truck will fit few people I think. Old ladys, budget buyers and grocery getters. Its a nice looking truck, but if economy is your thing the ecodiesel out performs. If your buying a truck to be a truck, work/offroad, winter capabilities etc. A v6 full size is only slightly more with around the same mpg's. I think ford and dodge were wise to drop this market. Your tested vehicle of 39k will buy you a nice ecodiesel. So your average price after say rebates etc will end up around 27k. For 27k you can buy a new 4x4 quad cab v6 ram if you buy smart. I was really excited for this truck but it seems to show the same let downs dodge had with the dakota its last few year of production. Unless the little duramax can do 30 mpg highway for less than 30k. I wouldn't be interested. (4x4 required for the black hills area) looks like a short box regular cab ram is still the better buy for me. Have a few 2014 left over black express around for 25k out the door in the area.

Nice truck but kind of dissapointed with the torque on the gas version. Only 269 lb/ft? The old Tacoma and Frontier had the same. Once they bring out newer models which they are going to do soon, the new engines will probably have more torque than the old engines. 40k isn't bad for a truck even though it's not full size. You should be able to keep it for 15 years so it would pay for itself.
@Twistedoff210 жыл бұрын
The only problem with 40K is you could get a Tacoma for 5-6K less and you know it will last and hold it's value. Wait until you see what the value of the truck is a year or two down the line. I'll bet it isn't what a Tacoma is.

Ford still more than likely will not consider it.Being that the ford ranger now is very close to f150 size.The other problem is being that its so close is the planned eco boost transmissions are coming or suppose to be coming with the new 2015 model unless that changed and sometime in the next few years there is a 10 speed transmission fitted for it which is "suppose" to get f150s to achieve 30 mpg "What they been trying to achieve with small trucks"
@johng452710 жыл бұрын
10 speed trans, lol. The engine must have a really narrow power curve to need that many gears. But seriously, it's the ratio of your top gear that make a difference in fuel economy, not how many gears you use to get there. manufacturers are just using more gears as a sales gimmick. Sounds good, but all that shifting is actually kind of annoying, unnecessary, and less reliable.
@KnightShadey10 жыл бұрын
John G Less reliable than what? You saying that a new Ford/GM/RAM 6-speed is less reliable than an old 3-speed from the 60s just based on gears? The ZF 8-speed has shown itself to be very reliable, especially compared to the old 4/5 speeds of the 80 & 90s that caused alot of mid-step refreshes in the late 90s and early 2000s. The ZF 9-speed is a bit questionable, but not because of one more gear than the 8-speed, but because it's not built with a design option for higher HP/Torque models in it's platform, so it's not made to the higher standard needed for more power and durability like that required by trucks, etc. I would still prefer ZF's new 7-speed non-dual-clutch manual transmission (or even the DC if I must), but then again, an easy shift manual always feels better , but I'd reserve reliability comments for when they've made as many million of those as the 8-speed. However, as the Shamwow guy says "They're made in Germany, and you know the Germans always make good stuff!" =;-) This might enlighten you on the 8-speed and it's design charatertics, especially versus the weaker 9-speed; www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2014/03/saturation-dive-zf-8-speed-automatic/ www.zf.com/corporate/en/products/product_range/cars/cars_7_speed_manual_transmission.shtml The main reason for having more gears is so that you can smooth out the transition from high ratio start from a stand-still to highway speed with a lower final ratio in the transmission (also assiting the fixed low/hi axle ratio) and not have to over-rev the engine outside of it's peak economy powerband zone in order to get to the desired highway speeds. But as seen in the 9-speed in the Cherokee and 8-speed in Ram and other scenarios, you still have to overcome air resistance and road resistance with HP/power and intertia with Torque, and sometimes that puts a cap or diminishing returns on what those can offer you. An exmple would be the possible benefits of just the transmission swap on a Cherokee, vesus say a Wrangler. Pushing that brick through a wind is going to require great deals of HP to go every mile/km faster regardless of how that transmission and axle are setup. So yes, your fuel efficiency isn't magically solved by adding more gears, but also not just by lower final ratios, however if balanced it might be assisted if everything else works together, and with a pick-up truck especially carrying any payload, smoothing out the ride to highway speed will help with those EPA / CAFE / ECE / NEDC numbers.
