Thank you for this video. How did you hold the intake cam in place to remove the VTC actuator?
@PhillipBailey2 жыл бұрын
You can use an open end wrench on the hex on the intake cam. Sorry I didn't show that.
@kriscabanero2 жыл бұрын
@@PhillipBailey thank you. Upon inspecting the intake cam, looks like the only spot that has a hex for a wrench is at the end towards the in inside of the high pressure fuel housing.

Great video I keep getting a P0339 crankshaft position sensor. Would you happen to know what the fix is? Thanks in advance
@PhillipBailey3 жыл бұрын
Does the engine crank at normal speed or does it sometimes turn slow. Code could be caused by low battery voltage, loose or dirty cables or failing starter. If it cranks over normally but sometimes longer to start its probably a failing crank sensor. Inspect the connection and wiring and if it looks OK probably recommend to replace the crank sensor. Good luck.

Do you know where to find the timing marks? I tried but no luck. Also how did you break lose the vtc gear?? Mines so tight
@PhillipBailey2 жыл бұрын
Timing marks are shown at 10:51 and again starting at 13:45. There are hexes cast into the camshafts that you put a wrench on if I remember. I have a home made holding tool that holds the cam sprocket if it has slotted holes in it.

I have done 2 of these already. One without taking the timing off cover one includes replacing the chain and tensioner. As i can remember, i actually talked to couple nice techs from honda service department before i did these jobs and they told me usually its the chain and the tensioner that needs to be replaced. So i didnt replace the actuator on the other job i did and it worked. But i am curious how to determine the actuator is bad.

Cheap insurance either way. Sometimes you can see that it's stuck or it won't click when energized.

I'm sorry. I can't recommend anyone as I'm 1000 miles from Toronto. As friends and co-workers who they recommend is your best bet. There has to be a reputable shop for sure. Good luck

What could happen if we keep driving like this? I have same exact problem. I bought a car from private seller, he put electrical tape on all those lights..... already spent quite some money. Don't have budget in short time of period... And where can I get the oem parts provide to mechanic. I'm not quite sure if he's gonna use oem parts.
@PhillipBailey10 ай бұрын
If the chain jumps time due to excessive wear it will likely quit. If it goes out of time far enough some valves can contact pistons resulting in major damage. I'd recommend dealer parts but if you are not doing the job yourself let the shop supply the parts because if you supply parts you won't have any warranty on labor. Some shops won't install customer supplied parts.
