Having come from 2 Lexus GS V-8's I took a deep breath and bought a 2009 Genesis. I put 172,500 on and had almost no issues (had to replace the brake power booster, under warranty. ) Last week I just bought another Genesis. In summary I would say that the Genesis is 9/10 of a Lexus at 3/4 the price. I'll take that as an acceptable compromise. I love my new car!

Retired gastroenterologist This 3.8 Genesis 2015 has been our primary vehicle since it's purchase in March of 2015. At over 25k miles we still love this vehicle. The only expenses have been due to an injury suffered from flying plywood out of a truck. Having owned Mercedes, Porsche and Lexus I was thrilled by Hyundai's being on the same level as the cars listed. We saved a bunch of money and at 83 I don't need the man thing anymore.

I have a 2009 with 3.8 with 154,000 miles and it is been wonderful! My 3.8 has seen 100+ mph cruises on the regular for long stretches from S Florida to N. Georgia and averages 20city and 26highway again that's at 105mph. No leaks, no a/c problems, had recommended services done under $1000 at the dealer. So far my experience is very good! High mileage does have a lot to do with it, but I just saw a 2013 V6 model with only 32,000 miles with a $15,000 price tag at a local dealership and a 2009 with 52,000 miles for just $12,000. We're talking basically a 67% loss of value with very low miles. Great finds for used buyers, but definitely can see where people would be disappointed if they bought new.

Had mine for 3 years, so far under warranty has been covered, new recall hankook tires, sunroof crapped out and would not closed, had several visits and service issues to repai my sun roof. After long process they finally replaced the whole thing which requires to take the windshield off, and reinstalling it and if you have the HUD version. Make sure the HUD winshield is used. My. Dealership learn the hard way after the replaced the sunroof the installed anothe wishield non HUD and it looks out of focused and blurry. Deal is hit tried recalibrating, even replacing the whole HUD dash unit until they finally realized the had the wrong windshield installed. The cars is great is just the service sucks, too many jumping through hoops situations be fore they move to replace or repair the vehicle...I doubt I will buy Hyundai again because of service.

Fit and finish have a long way to go, I almost traded in my 2013 Lexus GS 350 for a 2016 genesis as a even trade basically. Until I noticed the drivers seat separating from the bottom plastic part of the seat. I've noticed this on numerous Genesis models I've seen used with low miles. And depreciation is not great, the model I almost purchased was a year old with 20k miles, retailing for 40k+ new. Priced @25k today (2017), my 13' gs is valued @ 25k now. New it cost 47k. Hyundai is on the right track, and every revision gets better.

Alot of you misunderstand hyundai and kias warranty. They have powertrain LIMITED warranty. Not full powertrain like others. Please read the fine prints if you plan to buy one. We own one and will ever buy korean brand again. This is coming from Korean American. Btw we Korean Americans dont buy our own brand. 90 percent of us still dont trust them.
@mybeeb18 жыл бұрын
fair point :)
@emuporium8 жыл бұрын
What others are you comparing with? Curious if its just a matter of phrasing. The Lexus powertrain warranty is "limited" in that it is only good for a certain amount of time/mileage, and only to certain specified powertrain components. What I've typically seen is the "full warranty" (if something like that term is used) refers to the basic bumper to bumper, and the "limited" powertrain refers to extended coverage for specific powertrain components. Manufacturers seem to generally agree on what consists of a powertrain component.
@ohhyunsu8 жыл бұрын
usually most koreans don't like korean brands to start with anyway, so i'm not even surprised

@brianbfree23288 жыл бұрын
jun park why don't you trust them as Korean Americans? Just curious. I love how they have stepped up the game in design and quality in only 30yrs in the U.S. The 3 I've owned in the last 6 yrs were reliable with the exception of a turbo and misfire issue on my 11 Sonata SE 2.0T, and a rear pass LED tail lamp assembly on my 14 Optima SXT. It was collecting moisture. No charge replacement and I'm good. Hyundai also has less PPV (Problems Per Vehicle) than Honda, Nissan, Ford and GM in J.D. Power studies. I know Hyundai can be shady when it comes to doing the right thing behind warranty issues but overall they make pretty good cars. You go through that with a lot of automakers. Nissan and Honda jipped their customers, knowing they had a bad transmission for yrs. Nobody remembers that though. In conclusion the Koreans have done an awesome job in the U.S. car industry.
@davids18168 жыл бұрын
It's an almost there product. The suspension is about 10% too sloppy, the 3.3 turbo is a glaring omission and should be the only motor on offer. There is no android auto if you get the upgraded stereo. The back seats haven't got a single usb port. I very much like the looks and the interior reminds me of an older 7 series BMW. But it's missing features that the Elantra has and that kept me from buying one.
@markm00008 жыл бұрын
It's not hard to replace the springs and shocks with stiffer aftermarket ones. You can easily add usb ports anywhere you want with self-contained modules.
@nreeldeep17 жыл бұрын
You can easily add anything anywhere for a cost. His point is the suspension should NOT be 10% too sloppy for a car at that price point and Genesis should have everything the Elantra has without having to add it at that high price point. If you like to pay top dollar for fix me ups, that's your money. But He and I want a vehicle at that price point to already have USB ports in the rear like economy cars have. We're not in the mood to pay top price for a car and then pay more to modernize it.

@nicky_nike5 жыл бұрын
If you haven't owned a Genesis, you cannot guarantee anything. Genesis is well built. I doubt Lexus is better equipped. The Genesis is fully equipped. You don't know it will last longer. Sounds like a load of wishful thinking to me. The Genesis is far better vale, and the Lexus is dog ugly.

Well I don't know where you're from, but that's either an extreme exaggeration or simply not true. For one thing, the Genesis itself has been around since 2008, and they're almost all still on the road. There are tons of Hyundais from 2005 on still out there driving just fine, especially Sonatas and Santa Fe. I see Tiburons all the time and personally know someone who owns a 2006 Tiburon with more than 110,000 miles on it that still runs great. Only major expense on that one was new struts around 105,000. Beyond just anecdotal evidence, there's the fact that Hyundai has climbed up the JD Power and Consumer Reports reliability rankings for the last decade and recently overtook Toyota on some lists. Sure, you can find an old Lexus with 250,000 miles on it still ticking out there. Doesn't prove that Hyundai hasn't caught up. Whether or not you want to pay extra for the Lexus badge to get a car with similar features is a matter of personal taste, but believe it or not, a lot of folks are happy saving money to get a nice, fully loaded car.
