2015 Hyundai HID Headlight Replacement

I created this video as a step-by-step guide to replacing HID headlights on 2015 Hyundai Sonata models. The process consists of removing the entire front bumper to gain access the headlight assembly as this is the only way to access to the ignighter lamp (HID Bulb). It was intimidating to me at first, but it was much easier than I expected.
I used a number 1 & 2 Phillips screwdriver, needle nose pliers, 10mm and 12mm sockets, and a Cobalt brand short ratcheting Phillips screwdriver.

I have a 2017 Hybrid and this also is the closest thing to it... Make it so difficult to change just a single bulb...

Awesome video. Thanks for posting it. Got a 2017 Tucson Limited with the HIDs too. Recently the lights have started sorta flickering or more specifically where they’ll go out for 1-2 seconds and then come back on. Happens intermittently. What do you think is the issue? HID bulbs or the ballast? Thanks.

I’m not sure if you can replace HID with LED. I do know you can purchase LED conversion kits.

great video...did you happen to get a quote from a dealer? I'm nervous about removing the nose of the car...all of those plastic clips - they could break...I have a 2014 Sonata Limited with the HID system...

It was $400 to replace them at a local shop. The clips were pretty sturdy so I didn’t have any issue with any of them breaking.

Do you know anything about removing/installing the bumper on a vehicle with the Smart Cruise radar? Is it any more difficult?

I just completed this on my car about an hour ago. The smart cruise radar does not make it any more difficult. No extra wires or anything, which I honestly thought was odd

Hey Nathan I have a 2014 Hyundai sonata and this model use 4 headlight bulbs. So my question is , do I have to get 4 of this type of headlight?

2011 to 2014 lights can be replaced with just opening the hood. They use H7 lights and no tools needed to do that. You can replace the dead bulbs only

Is there a low beam and a high beam bulb for the HID headlamps, or does it just operate off of one bulb?

I don't think the conversion is easy for normal DIY. The normal bulb for the Sonata is 9005, and when I watched other videos, it seems the whole headlight assembly is somewhat different then the one use HID bulbs.

Yes! Look back at my first and last video recordings from October 2021 and the first video was started at 10:33am and the last video, of me buttoning things up, at 12:16pm.

Thanks for your reply. I did that finally but trust me, I put head lamp bulbs in many of my cars previously but this one was the toughest one. Unnecessarily they made this thing so complex. They just simply want us to go to the Hyundai service center even for the head lamp !

Imagine the cost of labor at a dealership… This is the same process with my 2014 Kia Optima SX Turbo. I hate these car markers are making it difficult to change low beam headlights on vehicles now.

I know it sounds and look ridiculous to remove the bumper just to replace the bulbs, but with the 2015 Hyundai Sonata Limited with the HID that is the only way to do it. Unless, you have a video to show us the easiest way otherwise. I would love to know. 😁😁😁

I agree with the rest. I’ve tried and it’s just to tight and awkward of a fit to get your hand in there. You gotta remove the bumper
