As I listen to him I am forced to think of Aristotle and Aquinas' formal and final causes.. the realm of meaning and value. I study Thomistic philosophy and find it wonderfully rich and so consistent with his lectures. A coke can is not aluminum or this round thing as a Newtonian (wrongly) held and is not a quantum phenomenon essentially either.. it is part of the relatedness of everything towards Being itself.

Nonsense, it simply depends what level of description is most appropriate/useful for the task at hand and it is perfectly legitimate to classify it as a round object if your concern is solid geometry or as aluminium if you are trying to sort out objects for recycling for example.

Francisco Nisihura much of Africa and the entirety of the middle East is in great turmoil because of their deep seated problems of race and cultural clashes within their countries. Do you know why the Rwandan genocide occurred? It was because they had a massive problem of racism in their country and it ended horrifically. The issues in the middle east follow the same pattern but cultural differences is a bigger element there.

I have purchased on Audible and have completed-Crime & Punishment, 1984, Animal Farm, and I’m about 1/2 through The Brother’s Karamazov; which is the best work of Drama, Comedy, CSI/courtroom scenes, Theological Treatise on the problem of the Doctrine of original sin, which is an intellectual idea: most of recorded history have affirmed that I have ever seen; also my Family of Origins dynamic is identical to Fyodor Pablovich’s I would be Dimitri in the story… if I may add… it’s shocking to hear how many attributes we share

He's not exaggerating about the difficulty in reading The Gulag Archipelago. It's a brutal read, and it will disturb you. I often have to put it down as what I read disgusts me. You can see how difficult it is for professor Peterson to lecture his students on these things, as it is appalling to recount all of these horrific events and the psychological phenomena that led to them. It wouldn't be so hard to recount if he didn't already know that most people aren't going to take these lessons with them out into the world. Even if every one of his students took these lessons and applied them, there are so many more people, millions, who don't know anything about the mechanics of totalitarianism the propaganda and psychological manipulation and treachery that goes with it. It's so easy for it to slip silently right by people. It's incredible.

Please check "facts" of this book. Those books hits You very much if You are not critical. And Young. It happened to me too with a different book - "Ledokol". But once You became to learn how is it was, You will find this is a lie. Just blatant lie. Unproffed rumors at best. Some obvious facts and truth masterfully mixed and twisted into unimaginal lie. USSR had its flaws and totalitarism and oppression was a thing, but it was totally DIFEERENT from Solzhenitzins books. Same way that modern Russia different from the Foxnews.

Slicem F Actually the book is quite well vetted and corroborated with other sources inside the Soviet Union at the time. Now, the KGB tried to undermine The Gulag Archipelago by calling it ‘campfire tales’ and even got his former wife to testify to that, but like most things Soviet, it was done pretty crudely and the rest of the world saw through that.

At the very end of this lecture, regarding your emphatic (& thanks for being emphatic when you think it matters!) reiteration of psychometric Big 5 theorist's weak claim, I found a list of personality traits on that apparently some people argue DON'T fall neatly into the linguistic systematization of Big 5. That list is as follows--and my question is pretty much "explain how measuring any of the following also measures badly or well 1 or more of the Big 5 traits." THE LIST (derived, btw, from Wikipedia's Big 5 article): religiosity, manipulativeness/machiavallianism, honesty, sexiness/seductiveness, thriftiness, conservativeness, masculinity and femininity, snobbishness/egotism (I prefer the word elitism), humor, and risk taking/thrill seeking.

The comment on anorexia was new to me. I can see a miscalibration in myself. Not sure what to do, but it's worth reflection. I think our limited ability to try and categorize things subconsciously limits us from seeing the truth and controlling our destiny. Perhaps it's because I believe we can change our stars; even when it's not clear how. This lecture captures some of the worst ideas ever on how.
