Randy Pobst My car is no where as fast or exciting. Its mostly an autocross machine right now. 2004 Acura TL 6spd. Nice for tight courses but heavy and will lack power going up that road. All in good time I guess! Glad you're doing well buddy!
@MrSlowestD169 жыл бұрын
vidurc It's not safe at all. A motorcyclist just died there Thursday... Nobody will try to play PP off as something it's not, it's a regular road with little protection in some places. If you're not prepared to die you shouldn't race there, because there's many places in the 150 turns or however many there are where cars can die...and it takes much less to kill a motorcyclist.
@d1sturb3d1199 жыл бұрын
That's any hillclimb though. I prefer a good hillclimb to racing on track though. To be fair I'm not very fast but it has been fun in the past.

vidurc It's still relatively safe in a properly prepped car, but on a bike...

Benjamin Sloss Oh, and up 'til then, we were fast :-) Looking for the sliver lining. We'd been delayed 30 minutes while they worked to clean up some fluid spill on track. I went on course exploring the grip, which was not a factor in the off. I just misread the road.

Randy and his team are a class act all around - great guy and superb wheel. The fact that these folks put this up and Randy admitted to a lapse is proof of that class act, one you rarely get between Driver and Car owner. Just superb - great to see him pick the softest spot on Pikes Peak to land! Cheers. BTW, his time up until then was terrific as usual and if you listen carefully, the car changed note dramatically prior to the off - possible mechanical yet to be discovered....

Cleared that little pond with ease. Looks like he had setup for that right turn to apex in a totally different spot. Its like he didn't expect it to keep twisting to the right. i see that happen alot on pikes. I wonder why it's not setup more like rally with either a co driver or gps map plotting, so the driver can anticipate what turn is coming, instead or relying on course memory.

Looking at it again i think what set him off was the double yellow line. If those are the like most then a little condensation on them makes them slick., cross at speed mid turn instant understeer.
@WE.R.NOT.OK.W.U.TRMP_GTFO8 жыл бұрын
that was my very first thought, and it only takes that one moment of push on the front tires to have enough momentum to understeer(or "push" the front wheels(not everyone knows the term)) completely, he handled it like a solid pro imo. just happy he walked from it....seriously tho, could *NOT* have been a better place for this to happen!! omg! lol...I think we all have to admit, and ,ayube he would too, I'm not sure, but that *was* fast for that corner, perhaps the pressure of a sick time was on his mind more than a safe line, I doubt he would have set the wheel right on that double yellow if he was fully concentrating on what he was doing, I could be wrong, it's all just guess work. I can't even imagine what decisions I would make, or dangers I would fail to see if I were in that seat. Randy is just an awesome dude, and a pro by all accounts, I love his reviews, I love how he assists the car guys from the different shows, and respect what he's got to say about everything that's FAST :D, I just hope he's able to keep getting *THIS* lucky! lol

Is it just me or does the sound of the car change about 5-7 seconds before the crash? As in mechanical failure, or something flying off the car, causing the understeer.
@ShadowMKII9 жыл бұрын
+Abe Lincoln If you're talking about how the pitch changes slightly and volume increases, it is just because of audio enhancement by the audio/video engineer that put together this video trying to enhance the sound so it is more "in your face" - so you get more auditory detail.

I didn't see a horseshoe collar around his neck, may have had one, if so I didn't see it, and he kept his hands on the wheel. What was he thinking? You NEVER keep your hands on the wheel during a crash like that. I have seen many broken wrists, hands and arms from that. If you land on a front wheel it can turn that steering wheel into a buzz saw.

Why do you guys with these mounted cameras like to look backwards so much? I really don't get it. This guy is tearing up the road and you are looking out the back window missing all of it. +MrSpartan117fan He had a choice of multiple cars and he picked the GTR because it was the one he felt most comfortable with. He has said multiple times that he likes the car and he wouldn't have crashed the car he didn't even own on purpose. Also did you watch the damn video? He was going to fast for the corner and braked to late because he didn't expect that steep of a turn, so instead trying to jerk the car to the right and ROLLING the car he just put it straight down which was the safest option. If he would have tried to make the corner at that speed the back would have stepped out and he would have made it off the hill at an angle and would have rolled the car which may have killed him. Think before you speak dumbass
